“Just dropped off Tam Boreenman off at The Happy Ending House of Asian Flavors there on Tennessee street, he asked if I could pick him up in 10 minutes....10 minutes! I told him he can just walk over to the La Pinata Taqueria, where I'll be enjoying some Tacos de Canasta, they're the best in Vallejo! Especially the potato and the frejoli tacos. 5 stars ☆☆☆☆☆”

“We stayed in Vallejo back in September for our Napa trip and I am just now getting around to leaving all of my reviews. We stopped in here for a couple of beers and food after we arrived in Vallejo because we had an hour or so before we could check into our airbnb. It was nice because it ended up being just a couple of minutes from the airbnb! They had a very nice selection of beers to choose from. We ordered our drinks and food and then sat outside on the patio to get some sun. They had a lot of plants growing in planters all around, so it was pretty despite it only being a multi-level deck. The staff were friendly, the food was good, and the beers even better. A lovely neighborhood spot for some drinks and snacks.”

Rumi Kabob 640 Broadway, Vallejo Halal • $

“Nestled in the heart of Vallejo lies a culinary gem that has captured not just my taste buds but also my heart - Rumi Kabob. From the moment I pulled up, I was greeted with warmth and hospitality that instantly made me feel like family. I opted for their combination plate, a feast fit for royalty. It boasted an array of flavors, from succulent chicken and tender lamb to savory beef and tantalizing Adana lamb shish. Accompanied by fluffy bread, fragrant rice, and a crisp salad, every bite was a symphony of taste and texture. What truly sets Rumi Kabob apart, however, is not just their delectable cuisine but also their exceptional service. The owner, a paragon of kindness, went above and beyond to ensure my first dining experience was nothing short of perfect. Not only did they take great care of me, but they also surprised me with a delightful sample of their baklava dessert, a sweet finale to an already extraordinary meal. Rumi Kabob has unequivocally become my go-to destination for Greek cuisine. With its unbeatable combination of mouthwatering dishes and unparalleled hospitality, it has earned a permanent place in my culinary repertoire. If you're in Vallejo and craving an unforgettable dining experience, look no further than Rumi Kabob. You won't be disappointed!”

“I’m a big fan of low key spaces that dial it in. Chef Chew as well known as he is, is highly underrated. What he does with tofu is humbly masterful. While other places will rely on fake meats,he transforms a slab of tofu into a layers and pockets of flavor that get turned into one of the best vegan fried chickuns in the area and a vegan philly protein that is natural gluten free bc it’s basically just tofu and spices. The collards melt in your mouth but somehow don’t taste overcooked. And I think he changed his cheese sauce slightly bc it tastes even better since his reopening. Offering a vegan fried chickun and steak that isn’t made of processed ingredients is a subtle triumph that I don’t feel gets enough recognition. Vegan soul food done right. Much respect.”

El Tesoro Mazatlan 658 Benicia Rd, Vallejo Mexican • $

“Was looking for a quick hot plate on a random Thursday night approaching the 10pm hour after most of the taco trucks around town had already closed. Enter Tesoro Mazatlan. I had seen the overall 5 star reviews and it's been on my radar to stop by awhile. Lots of plates to choose from with pictures posted, so you know what you're ordering. I went with the nachos with shredded beef. And washed it down with a Jamaica agua fresca, both to go. Shredded beef was peppery spicy and I loved it. Nachos were bomb as was the beverage. Take out plate + drink without any tip was a "dub" ($20), with a slight discount given for cash over card. Parking can be a little tricky and in a less-than-savory neighborhood. Especially if the dive bar (Chris's Club) next to it is hopping. However, I'm happy to report that the great ratings for this place seemed confirmed by my 1st visit. Surprised that I slept on this place so long. Bueno!”

Michael Warring 8300 Bennington Dr, Vallejo Fine Dining • $$$$

“The most unpretentious high end dining experience in the area. The venue is quaint with seating for about 20. Great choice of music playing softly in the background. I loved the husband/wife team approach. They seem to have the timing of everything really dialed in. They were both very pleasant and took turns serving the guests. The food was very good although the cheese plate with a huge slab of brioche bread was not my favorite course. My favorite dish was the morel with caviar. I also really enjoyed the carbonated pears. I recommend that you give it a shot. I will most likely dine there again.Parking: The parking lot is shared by the other businesses and can get pretty filled up.”

“I had forgotten about this place! Back when I worked in Vallejo and had to be at work before the sun, Sunshine Smoothies was my saving grace. Vallejo can be dark and stormy before 6 am and this location was one of the few places I could come for a true fruit smoothie or a authentic coffee drink without fake sweeteners or a ton of sugar. The family and I were headed to Mare Island for a drive when we started to pass the cute yellow and orange stand. I immediately turned into the driveway and got in the drive thru line because I hadn't been for a visit for 5 years and I wanted to see if the items still had the same quality. I ordered a caramel blended coffee drink and my husband ordered the Very Berry smoothie. We were told that there was a big order ahead of us, but we could move to cone #1 to wait for our order. We moved to the cone, turned the engine off and enjoyed the bay view. There was one person in front of us and 4 behind us, so they were crazy busy for such a small parking lot. When our order was ready less than 10 minutes later, we were greeted with medium drinks as a thank you for our patience. The owner didn't even have to do that! My drink was perfect. Not too sweet, and it actually tasted like caramel blended in a not too strong, brewed coffee! My husband's smoothie tasted like apples, strawberries, and blueberries and was the perfect refresher on a warm Sunday. I will be back. I am so glad that they are still open and I cannot wait for my next drink! Service is always friendly and you can tell that the people working the booth actually enjoy their job! I am happy to support a local business!”

“I was craving crispy tacos the other day and I thought I'd try La Estrella. I got the food home and I was a little underwhelmed because the taco shells looked so uniformed and pre-made I didn't expect much. I've similar looking tacos from other restaurants that were not very good. After the first bite I knew I was wrong. They were light, crispy, and crunchy and the al pastor was amazing! The tacos held up bite after bite and didn't fall apart. It was exactly what I wanted and the side of beans were so good. I plan on getting lunch here later today.”

“Good prices & fresh pan dulce. I am heartbroken about your recent break-in. And that it was so much damage for only $50 gain that the thieves made off with. Please understand I know you've been in business for a long time if I recall something around 20 years. But please understand the wealth Gap where we live has grown to an unbearable level. The Gini Index for the United States may be 0.415 - 0.425, but the Gini Index for California is 0.49, which makes it have a wealth Gap similar to Mexico, Guatemala, or Columbia. The wealth gap for San Francisco county is worse still: it stands in 2022 at 0.520- that is on par with Brazil, Belize, Kenya and Honduras. So expect the same types of mob crime and senseless crime for small amounts of money to begin happening here. 15 years ago, 20 years ago when you opened your business this was not the case at all. Gini Indices of these places; California and San Francisco County 15 years ago were 5 points lower!!! So please understand there is a desperation among the lower economic classes here that is similar to the desperation you see in Brazil. It is going to get worse unless they fix it so brace yourselves and prepare. You need to put bars on your windows or get a roll down door so they do not have access to your business. If you get a roll down door get the really good kind that they have in Brazil. We would hate to see this happen to you again.”

“The extreme meat breakfast burrito was extremely disappointing. 1 sausage patty, whole, and 1 piece of bacon, some scrambled eggs in a tortilla, like really? Couldn't put some potatoes or cheese in it? Had to ask for salsa, and the hash brownb was cold. Falafel good but not outstanding. Friendly staff, lots of multigenerational families eating together. Love the water dispenser with cucumber slices in it! I especially appreciate that staff are happy to fill our reusable takeout containers (metal tiffins) with food to go.

Waiter was pleasant, thoroughly explained how things worked, and the feast was on! This is an "all you can eat " restaurant, and they limit you to a two hours. More than enough time to get omg full. The food choices are plentiful and everything was delicious. The place is well decorated, well decorated, and ventilated (as you cook your meal on a grill in the center of the table, that has a cool vent over it). Wait staff was very attentive. The menu has a lot of choices, and It is moderately priced, I had a great meal. A side note to parents of young children. Think about a sitter. For a couple reasons. Your 3 year old is probably going to be a handful here. As well as a hot grill in the middle of the table, there are many small side dish "treats" as well as several dishes that rotate around the table. A couple are pretty spicy. My only complain was that I asked for no ice but was given a normal amount of ice in my drink. Other than that my drink was really good, I just wish I got to drink more of it”

“Great as always, though I did get the chocolate shake which I haven't done for years, how that cup has shrunk....always get the fry sauce to add to fries, rather then getting animal style. The line is of course horrible.”

Black Bear Diner 980 Admiral Callaghan Ln, Vallejo American • $

“I've never actually been to the restaurant before even though the chain is every where. The newspaper menus are interesting. Food is good and the portions are HUGE. Sometimes they seem to be a bit short staffed but nothing too horrible. It's a typical American restaurant a little more upscale than a dinner.”

“Thank you so much for my first experience! My son Joe recommended you! I really appreciate you and your talent! The food was great! Although I shifted away from alligator, I really enjoyed the crab cakes! (I really did forget that cornmeal is used as a frying staple in the south!). I am on a low sodium diet, but it was worth being naughty! ?..And I will thoroughly enjoy the rest of my homemade tartar sauce (even though I thought I was close in the ingredients...lol). Thank you for my excellent experience! My next visit will be fish and chips! Again, my appreciation goes out to small businesses?!”

“It's your average chain red lobster we used to frequent here a few years back because of the sweet ol lady who used to waitress there. She has retired and now I find myself skipping it as an option for date nights.”

“So glad they opened one out here in Vallejo to try out :) it is located in one of the busier plazas of Vallejo so traffic can be a bit of a concern around the parking lot. The inside is super small, the biggest table only has 4 seats, could possibly seat five. There isn't a lot of room inside really and it does get busy but not impossible to find a table to dine in! I would suggest possibly calling or checking in with a slight waiting time expectation! Otherwise, you could probably grab the food to go and eat outside or at a park nearby. Warm and busy vibes inside, perfect for an active lunch or dinner! The service was decent, food came out fast. The tables weren't really cleaned up too well so we had to wipe it down a little bit, and the staff usually is more casual so they probably will drop the food and leave you to your meal. I think the food always tastes pretty good across the multiple locations nearby. Personally my favorites include the soup dumplings and the molten lava buns! Their other common order foods are still really yummy though! Otherwise, would drop by if you're looking for good shareable food!”

Daikon Korean BBQ 124 Plaza Dr, Vallejo Barbeque • $$

“Had my first experience here last evening. Was unsure of what to expect as it was also my first experience with Korean BBQ. I was told weekends were busy with over an hour's wait, so we tried a Monday evening. Arrived at 6:30 , was seated by 6:35. I'm looking forward to my next visit, and will be bringing friends.”

Dutch Bros Coffee 1598 Fairgrounds Dr, Vallejo Coffee Shops • $

“03/16/24- 3rd visit actually and Saturday night- long line! Today was way slower than usual. Arrived at 8:34pm and got the order at 9:11pm. I started at the first sign where it says- Pull to the shortest line (something like that). Ordered White zombie freeze, caramelizer freeze, cotton candy freeze and strawberry chai. I noticed only one crew walking up to cars taking orders and only two crews making the drinks. Kudos to the guy with huge green earring is great, fast and energized as always! I am guessing that some employees called in sick today? Because on a Saturday, usually, there are plenty of workers for a faster breeze of a drive thru. And I know that Dutch is never short of baristas, that's why they are fast and can easily beat long lines! We shall see and I will give them another chance when I come back! Some cars even left the cone maze by backing up after going into the line. I do hope that they won't have an impression of slow service that will turn customers away! See you next time!”
