“trattoria stella is a nice place for special occasion dinners. they have very dim lighting that surprised us when we walked in. the hallway seating was beautiful to walk through; the hallway arches are so cool to see. i ordered spaghetti with veal meatballs and it was good. the pasta tasted so fresh! my partner ordered the pork chop that came with potatoes, broccoli, and butter beans. the pork chop was very moist, which we never really see at restaurants so that made the meal super tasty. our waitress was nice and attentive; staff will let you know about the specials of the day and any explanations :)“

“These 2 were what I ordered. A carbonara and a bolognese. Carbonara was okay and I loved the texture of the pasta, if anyone could tell me what the name of the pasta is that’ll be great. However the bacon crumbs were very salty. I thought the bolognese was very child friendly and nice. Blueberry tiramisu was not worth it, it’s like school dining hall dessert, very pricey. Overall, a pricey place but understandable given the location.“

“Lamical review We first came here 20 years ago and we’re charmed by the ambiance, the fireplace and the delicious food. Our most recent visit in February 2022, after several years absence, was a sad disappointment. 1. We had to ask the waitress if the cheap hunk of dry buttered bread with a soft crust represented the baguette. Unfortunately it did. It was not sourdough as advertised. The waitress said it was a “wheat sourdough”? Ok, sure. 2. The French Onion soup was saltier than the Atlantic Ocean, was mostly bread filled with few onions, and was topped with mozzarella not gruyere. 3. The entrees were mediocre at beat. I’ve never ordered anything other than the roast chicken and was looking forward to it. The chicken was piled on top of the potatoes and broccoli in nouveau cuisine fashion and was drenched in a weird creamy sauce. The beef bourguignon was served with strange gigantic noodles. Not good. The price fixe items were mediocre. 4. Service was decent. The bus boys did a great job of filling our water glasses, which was appreciated given the salt level. We sadly and regretfully won’t be coming back.“

The local wines are really good - at least the whites that we tasted were. We didn't sample any reds, but the Old Mission Peninsula shows great promise as a wine region. Service was excellent. Prices vary from a bit over the top for some of the meats to really reasonable for starters, side dishes and fish, and the view from the dining room is the icing on the cake.“

“I've been here multiple times over the years but am finally reviewing this place. Their woodfired pizza is astounding. If you want to feed a lot of people (or even just a few people) this place will give you tasty, high quality pizza for a reasonable price. I've had many of their pizzas but this time around I got the Stoker, which has all their wood-roasted ingredients and a hint of spice (picture included). Another favorite ofine is the Burlington Northern which has pears and prosciutto among other items, and it may sound weird but it is so good! Today I enjoyed their Looper Amber Ale which is a very nice amber, biscuity and a touch of sweetness (and honestly I'm not a huge amber ale person) as well as their Watch Hill Hazy IPA, which had a nice typical hazy IPA fruity flavor. Definitely recommend coming for a nice lunch or dinner, their outside space is amazing even in winter!“

I have really been missing out and so is anyone that has driven past and not pulled in. They should have lines out the door the food is delicious, healthy, filling and fairly priced. You must stop the next time you're looking for something good for your body and soul.I ordered the sweet potato chia bowl. It had marinated kale, brown rice, plenty of roasted turkey, and delightful sweet potatoes. It was really really good and totally worth the $13 or $14 I paid. Skip McDonald's (their neighbor), or a bowl at Qdoba. This is the place to be. And I try to find places that are food sensitivity conscious, and this place has so many options for gluten free, dairy free, vegan, etc.Plus the gentleman behind the counter (owner I presume), was kind and friendly. When the cook was serving up my dish through the window, the guy at he counter teased back to the cook "chia later!"...I love a good dad joke any day! And I don't know if I was dreaming, but I'm pretty sure the cook was drumming with his spatula on the grill in the back to the song over the speakers.I was there less than 10 minutes, but it was such a happy experience. I ordered the banh mi chicken sandwich with fries ($15) with a side of ranch ($1.50) and my husband ordered the blackened mahi tacos that came with chips and salsa ($14).Both items were SO GOOD! The chicken sandwich comes on a ciabatta roll that was soft and warm. The cabbage, radishes and cilantro on it were all fresh and crispy. The tacos came with two tacos and did only have one piece or fish on each taco but the taste was on point. Even the chips and salsa were tasty. I sometimes find chips and salsa at a restaurant can feel like an afterthought and these did not!We also each ordered a beer and they were both amazing! “Landmark pie and tasty sandwiches and salads and Highergrounds coffee. Was one of our pre-pandemic rotations when brunch with pie is a necessity. Good loyalty program too (pie day and birthday pie). Dollar off coffee if you over 60. Ask for it... Dangerously delicious things. Once a month maple cinnamon roll as it's too good for weekly. Yum! Getting out again post COVID and the experience is still YUMMY! 11/03/2023 monthly visit for senior coffee and a maple roll was disappointing as the coffee was day old cool and there were no maple rolls available and the cinnamon roll was small, cold and hard. I soaked it in my cool coffee to make it edible. Will always ask before ordering next month if the coffee is fresh brewed and the tasty thing is fresh. The worst is I wasn't asked if I wanted it warmed. There was a line so I didn't provide direct feedback and will take the responsibility to inquire and be aware of the service degradation. Stopped in to pick up pre-order pies for Thanksgiving and the service and quality of my choice maple cinnamon roll improved. So, updating the review to reflect this. Also, if you are ordering fruit pies order two days ahead as they bake in the morning staring at 8 am and the pies aren't ready till 11 am.“

“Frenchie's pastrami sandwich is truly one of the only things that makes living in Traverse City worth it. The bread is fresh, the pastrami is astonishingly juicy, and there's something about the mustard I can't express through words. Some say Frenchie, the man himself, is mean, or brash at the very least. There may be some truth to these claims. My dad says he once gave Frenchie a cooler and was never thanked. He yelled at my grandma once, but I'm sure he had his reasons. When he picks up the phone, you can tell how he's feeling by the way he says the word "Frenchie's." You can hear the 15 years of owning a restaurant in his voice. You would probably yell at people too, if you had his job.But none of his transgressions matter when the sandwich is melting in your mouth. I think Frenchie is delightful. Frankly, I like that you never really have to guess what kind of day he's having. It's almost what I imagine living in New York is like.Frenchie will always have my business, and my respect. I hope he never changes.“

The food is always fresh, delicious, and appealing to the eyes and nose. No matter what is ordered, you will be full and beyond pleased.“

“Perfect cozy restaurant right across from Lake Michigan. We sat by one of the warm and welcoming fireplaces in the dining room overlooking the water. Zoey was a dining adventure host (aka server) and she was delightful! The entire meal from the Bacon Wrapped Grilled Shrimp the special mixed Burger and the soups were perfect after our beautiful yet raining hike at Sleeping Bear Dunes. Highly recommend this wonderful restaurant!!! We enjoyed the warmth of the fireplace as we saw our first snowflakes of this winter/spring of 2024. Beautiful, romantic, delicious!!! ❤️❤️❤️☀️☀️☀️❤️❤️⭐️“

“We visited Sleder's for dinner on a Friday night. We atarted with a bowl of clam chowder. For our entrees my wife got the smelt dinner and I got the cod dinner. Our kids got burgers. The food was solid. The chowder was flavorful and it was easy to tell that it was made in house. The fish was tasty and fried well. The fries were a little under crisp and under seasoned for our liking, but I've definitely had worse. To be honest I didn't eat many of my fries as I was trying to make the most of the Friday "all you can eat" fish fry, and focused on my fish.It was a really cool place that was clearly a favorite of locals, and the solid food and friendly service coupled with the fun and quirky decor makes it easy to see how this place has been around for 140 years.“

“Choose your own beer flight was great! Indoor and outdoor dining is available. We ate indoors, and the ambiance is pretty killer. Everything was clean, and old wood floors gave an aire of history, I could almost hear who walked here before us. There was not a hint of that pungent brewery smell that you usually get in places like this.Outdoor dining is sectioned off from the sidewalk and parking without a chance of anyone driving into you.The food was good but nothing super spectacular. The freshly made root beer was phenomenal, and I would go back there for that, and the killer fries any time!“
