Went to check out Tea house cafe on a Sunday after getting groceries. I was pretty excited since there aren't a lot of Hong Kong style cafes in the city of Edmonton.Tea house cafe is located just a block away from whyte ave. It's a fairly small and crowded little restaurant. There are roughly 5 tables on the main floor and then 3 up a narrow flight of stairs. The menu is quite large and has a lot of the typical Hong Kong cafe items, such as sweet corn and pork on rice, congee, wonton noodle soup, breakfast, various types of chow mein/noodles and baked bowl rice. Tea house also has a infamous lunch special that allows for the items to come with your choice of HK style coffee or tea. Most of the items on lunch special list are roughly around $14.95.We ordered what was supposed to be a preserved egg congee (but they made a mistake and I ended up with fish and tofu congee), a singapore noodles and the cream corn with pork on rice. The food was okay, not overly flavourful or mind blowing but also not awful. The cream corn dish had a overwhelming amount of cream corn to rice ration, which made it more wet and soupy than we would have liked.Unfortunately, the day we went, the services was fairly slow and it took our food over 30 minutes. What should have been a quick meal turned into an almost 1.5 hour sit down, which is a really long time for a HK cafe type meal. The servers were all pleasant, just really slow.I'll likely go back and give it another try sometime. It might have just been the day and like I said before - there aren't a lot HK cafe style restaurants in Edmonton and there wasn't anything particularly wrong with food. I guess I really wanna like this place so I would be willing to give it a second chance. Will update this review when I go again. Stay tuned!

The food was served very slowly. Some people at the table took a long time to finish their food, while others had not yet received their food. Moreover, they all tasted terrible.

The food is just average - you can probably get the same quality of food from any Chinese restaurant in Edmonton. The server was pretty annoying. We literally just sat down and he kept rushing us to order. Told him we need more time, he walked away and then came back 20 seconds later when we were obviously still looking through the menu. Told him we needed more time again, talked away and came back like 10 seconds later again. There was no lineup and we were the only ones in the restaurant so we're not sure why the server kept bugging us. When we were finally ready to order, the waiter didn't seem to understand us.

This restaurant is dirty, they use dirty rags to clean the dishes and knives and forks, the bathroom smells bad, we will never go to this disgusting restaurant again.

We were visit to edmonton from calgary today. We found this restaurant from google to try. Food wasn't very good, service was normal, but I was really surprised they setup the credit card machine for tips from 20 percent up. I believe they have two different machines for tips setup. One for local customers and other for travelers. At that time, there are no amount that we can choose, only percentage. So , we paid 20% for the tips. We won't go back to this restaurant.

We ordered stir fry beef rice noodles and crispy noodles with chicken. They taste all the same heavy in soya sauce. The hot milk tea tastes funny. The quality of the food and drinks are down and don't taste authentic anymore.

Looks better than taste. I suspect they use same sauce for every dish.

Stumbled across this place while at shoppers. The owners Herman and Wendy are really nice people and friendly. The meal was prompt and delicious. The HK style Milk tea is the best I have ever had, very rich in flavor and no bitter aftertaste. Plus they include a cute bear Milk tea ice cube! The place is clean and prices are a great deal. All around excellent!

Nice cafe, service was good. Our food portions were pretty decent but the taste and overall quality was off.I've yet to find an HK cafe in Edmonton that compares to Hong Kong. Here they have the same overall poor interior standards that look like the aftermath of a gun fight out of a John Woo film, but don't hold a candle to the food quality. I do love the wall decor showing the Hong Kong skyline though. In my visit, the milk tea and soup were warm at best, and noodles overcooked. And the curry rice was a bland yellow mess. Doubtful that I'd return.
