“This was the perfect place to grab lunch before we went to the McWane Center! Great variety of food stands to choose from. I only wish they would keep the website updated better because our boys were set on food from Ashley Mac’s based on what we saw online. We got there and it was closed and looked like it hadn’t been open in quite awhile. All the coolers were cleared out, etc.I had a poke bowl that was fabulous and my husband tried some egg rolls and crab angles - delicious!! My boys ended up loving the fries and corn dog from the burger place. We also tried the grilled cheese. The bar is great and has a nice selection of beer and speciality cocktails.Kid-friendliness: It was busy but a great place to bring kids. Lots of space for them to run around.“

The Louis at The Pizitz Food Hall Bar • $$
The Pizitz Food Hall, 1821 2nd Avenue North, Birmingham

“This bar is located smack dab in the middle of the Pizitz food hall. It has ample seating, plugs along the perimeter, and the bartenders are cool. I like to come here to co-work since it's an ideal spot to also grab lunch and have meetings. They also have pretty awesome happy hour specials, the margarita is my fav. They also name drinks after loal biz owners sometimes, I loved the Jacqui Jones.“

The Commons on the Green Cafeteria • $
900 16th St S, Birmingham

“I finally had the chance to eat at The Commons on the Green on Monday. I chose Monday specifically, because I do not have a meal plan that gives me meal swipes, and I knew that The Commons does Mindful Mondays where students can get in for only $5. I went with a couple of my friends before class so we could dine during breakfast hours since that was our favorite time during our freshman year. The Commons is very spacious and boasts of UAB pride with the amount of green and Blazer spirit you can find inside. It is conveniently located almost in the middle of campus, so it's easily accessible from all sides and not too much of a walk. It was heavily packed when I went, and as a result it was difficult to find seating for myself and my friends. I went to their Entree area and got eggs, pancakes, bacon (not pictured because it was finished beforehand) and potatoes. I love breakfast in general and am not too picky, so I enjoyed it for the most part-- the eggs were a little bland and cold though. The people who served my for were also in good spirits and made me feel welcomed. Additionally, one of my friends who dined with me is vegetarian and found that The Commons accommodated her fairly well. The place was clean and tidy (and also all-you-can-eat), so I will definitely be coming back!“
