Previously an actual garage, like where they used to repair cars. So, bonus points for authenticity right up front. No fake fern bar crap or faux grit. And none of the posers who frequent the nearby microbreweries and places like that. If that's what you're looking for, head to Avondale or Trim Tab.Small inside area. Cozy. Great bartenders. There's a pretty large outdoor area between the old garage bays where you can sit. The bays are all full of random junk locked up behind locked sliding glass doors, like old motel rooms. Not junk that some stager bought and placed for effect. Real junk left there by somebody for God knows what reason. Organic.Speaking of which, my favorite thing about The Garage is it's the only place I can get a Samuel Smith's Organic Double Chocolate Stout without having to be around the sort of people who would normally drink it.Price is right. A bit off the beaten path. Highly recommend for folks who like it real.

Cool dive bar & kitchen in the back. This place is popular by locals & tourist as well as we found this place on Yelp. If you are judging this place by looks only you might think should I go in, but do. The food ordering system is line up and place/pay for your order and find a seat. They will bring the food to you. The menu is basically sandwiches and the soup of the day. Food was delicious! We had a veggie sandwich and was fresh & filling. They have tables inside and patio seating outside. Great lively bar too!! A must checkout. Street Parking is limited but someone is always leaving

This by far is my favorite place to eat and drink. If your looking for an ice cold beer, glass of wine or a cocktail handed to you by the best bartenders - this is your place! Best sandwiches and soup. Incredible bar to hang out and chill.

It was a cold January night, and my husband and I were looking for a new place to go because we had been stuck in the house all day. The Garage isn't a new place. We used to go in in the 80s, but we forgot about it once we had kids. Anyway, we were looking on Yelp, and when we saw it again after, we decided we had to go. It is the same divey, casual, fun, neighborhood hangout that it used to be. We loved the 80s music that they were playing, and luckily, we're able to get a table. My husband kept smelling the soup, so we had to try it, and we were so glad we did. It was a southwestern soup with Conecuh sausage. My favorite was dipping the crackers and scooping up the beans and sausage, and there was a lot of sausage. It was delicious. They have some inside seating and a fire pit outside. I want to visit in the spring and see the Wisteria in bloom. There were a lot of vines.

Solid “hole in the wall” type location with a great back patio and awesome sandwiches. Got “The Fritz” which is basically just everything they have on a sandwich.

A solid go-to sandwich place when you're just looking for something chill and a great outdoor space. The air quality isn't great indoors - quite smoky, but they have a large patio with tables outside. There are two lines, one to order food and one for drinks. Pay on your way out. They now accept credit cards, but there's a 4% discount if you pay cash.

Fantastic local bar. Sandwiches were absolutely great. The bar itself was great with a really cool outside area. I'm pretty sure they don't get many British tourists passing through but found place extremely friendly and relaxed. It was so good we went back for a few more drinks. If you're in the area I highly recommend definitely would return if I was ever in birmingham again. a*

Fun dive bar with amazing sandwiches and a full bar. The outside is a super fun area with lots of historical objects behind the glass. Truly lives up to their name. Service is different from most dive bars. One line for drinks (full bar with a good beer selection) and one line for sandwiches. You can't go wrong with their steamed sandwiches. I always get the pastrami Reuben and it's delicious. They also have vegetarian options as well. So there is something for everyone here!
