Always check the sheets! Mine were soiled with drops of blood. The hotel is not very clean. The room appeared clean at first glance but when I pulled back the covers the putter cover duvet had blood stains. My room was changed but the second room was not better. Stay at the risk of dirty sheets, musky carpet and curtains, dirty vents, and stained bathroom walls.

This seems to be an older hotel that has had a major renovation. However, lots of black dust in vents. Layout is very confusing. Beds are uncomfortable. This hotel was recommended by Samford for our visit…it could be cleaner and offer better breakfast options.

Because of some TripAdvisor reviews I didn’t have great expectations but stayed here anyway because it was where some colleagues were staying so it would be easiest to coordinate. The reports about the layout of the property being awkward were accurate and I am grateful to the reviewers who advised parking in the back because that is where the only elevator is located. My room was dated- popcorn ceilings (and walls!) but I would have rated this property as fine because the breakfast bowl with quinoa and breakfast service were good and that would have balanced out the negatives. However, there were two other negatives the tipped the balance. First, during my stay I bought two small bottles of water at the market and when I checked out I discovered that I was charged $4.50 for one bottle and $5.00 for the second one (plus required tax). I asked about the discrepancy and was told that the price was posted it but it wasn’t and the desk clerk conceded it wasn’t but then just shrugged. Aside from being overpriced, charging different prices a day apart was arbitrary. Also, while housekeepers were working in other rooms in the hall outside my room I told them I would be leaving for the rest of the day so that they could get into my room and asked for more towels but they didn’t clean or give me towels. No one told me that there isn’t daily housekeeping (if that is the case) but even at properties without daily housekeeping one can usually get towels or trash removed on request. Apparently not here. I don’t have any plans to return to the area but I wouldn’t return to this property if I were.

Not to be rude but the last time we were here, as Ambassitor level, we were in a very nice room. For some reason, we checked in and this hotel did not honor any level that we had built up to. We are loyal to Marriott spending 20, 000+ a year and over 150 days in these hotels. We have never been given the worst room in the house. Obviously this place does not say us as important customers. I’m sure I can find another place close by that will pay attention to us and our loyalty. The 2nd room they changed us to is clean but extremely basic and the bed is so very uncomfortable. I’m sorry. We will never be back!!

There is ONE elevator and it a football field distance from the front desk. The hallway carpet is old so your roller bags do not roll very well on it. You can't park near the elevator because everyone knows the elevator is a hike away so those spots get taken rite away. The rooms have not been renovated; beat up furniture, the room has poor lighting not to mention our internet was out. Stay in the Courtyard downtown Birmingham instead.

Ok let me start by reiterating what the person said about the layout. AWFUL you must walk seems like a mile to get to the one working closet size elevator. The halls and elevator area is creepy if you a female like myself don't go to the elevator alone a night because not only is it dark creepy and weird but it's by a door that leads outside and no one will see anything. Just a really strange layout. Next the person that check us in was also AWFUL REALLY PAST AWFUL SHE WAS RUDE and I don't know how Marriott can have someone like Denise representing their hotel as the first person you see. As I was waiting she was rudely checking in this elderly couple and was telling them about housekeeping but when they asked for it everyday she told them " well you make your bed at home don't you". If you read this Marriott district manager you MUST talk with her about how she represents YOUR HOTEL. As for everything else it was OK. All other employees were wonderful. If I experience any other employees like this with Marriott I guess we will be going back to reclaim my hold and my husband diamond status at Hilton.

Just a weird place. Big complex type building & strangely laid out. Only one elevator in the very far back corner of the complex. It basically is in a closet and as far away from the front entrance as you can get. You can use the stairs though. You hear everything happening in the hall from your room. So, little to no soundproofing. We had a room on the back side of the hotel which I thought would be quiet, but there was a dog barking all night in a house behind the hotel. I asked to switch rooms, but was told they were sold out. Very few cars in the parking lot though? Anyway, all I can say is this is a weird place. I’d stay else where!

Pleasant older property recently nicely refurbished. Friendly staff, very clean premises. Odd layout, elevators are at back of building so be prepared to walk a lot of hallways. No bathroom amenities, just dispensers; no daily maid service. Location is the key to this hotel; cannot be beat; close to everything and safe. Bistro dining concept is still just that and really does not work well. Save your money and go to one of the many local spots nearby. Nice pool area for relaxing. Overall a safe bet for Birmingham.

We were pleasantly surprised at the room rennovation completed since our last visit. The totally new bathroom is impressive. The window heating/air con unit made so much noise that it was difficult to sleep. Maybe it's time to look for a new go-to hotel in BHM. I mentioned it at check-out and got a quick apology and thank you for staying.

Great location up on a hill off the main highway, so very quiet. When we checked in the room was clean, but we needed a few things like foam pillows and extra towels and the staff was very accommodating. Comfortable lobby area with areas to sit or work on your laptop. There is a small market that was open in the mornings for coffee and light breakfast. Market near front desk also well stocked. You can walk across the street to a Shell station, Target or Macy's if you need anything. A few restaurants were also open across the street and many other strip malls and restaurants less than 10 min away by car. Leave extra time to get anywhere from here - at times the traffic was really busy, but it's easy in and out light from the hotel. Recommend this hotel!

We stayed here for a one night stopover between Central Florida and Memphis. We usually stay at Hampton Inns but decided to try Courtyard. Hotel was comfortable and in a good location. Positives: nice pool/courtyard area, quiet room, bar/bistro in the lobby. Cons: no free coffee in the morning, no microwave in the room, and no complimentary breakfast items.

We stayed here on the way to Destin, Florida...the location is very convenient just a short drive off the highway, in a nice area and plenty of restaurants nearby! The check in staff was friendly and our room was clean and ready to go. Rooms have been updated with modern furniture and is very nice. Courtyard area has a nice pool and grill area. Would stay here again!

We had had reservations at another hotel nearby, only to be told that Expedia had not checked that the rooms were still available. We were quickly switched (close to midnight) to this hotel, and we are glad that we were. The rooms were spacious, the fitness center was great, and the staff was welcoming and great to deal with. Only drawback was that breakfast was not included (although it was available for a fee), but we managed to figure something out.

Stayed here one night with my son and sister and don't have too many complaints. Standard Courtyard, and the location is convenient to Samford, dining, and the Summit ( traffic is horrible in the evening!). I didn't give five stars, because I didn't know this was a pet friendly hotel. Heard dogs barking early morning, but noise from others on the floor or road noise wasn't a problem. Definitely ask for a room on a higher floor that's away from elevator and road noise. Front desk employees were nice. Maybe wouldn't stay again due to pet allergies, but that's the only reason why.

Nice hotel very comfortable but they don’t have coffee makers in the room Beds were comfy, water pressure was not fabulous but ok. You could buy coffee in the lobby cafe as well as breakfast but would be nice to not have to go there to get it. Fire pit area and pool were wonderful
