“Consistently amazing service and an affordable fine dining menu. The pizzas are fantastic in a town that has some very stiff competition. The pastas are en pointe and the mains are plated gorgeously and taste wonderful. Highly recommend leaving room for dessert, you won't be disappointed and their pistachio cardamom gelato is divine. To top it off they have a great selection of cocktails and a fine selection of wines. A great destination venue for special occassions. Will gladly return time and again!”

“Absolutely love this place! We have needed a healthy quick place to eat out or takeaway for a long time. The food is excellent and the owner just a lovely person! I would only make 2 recommendations (not criticizing just suggestions) to maybe add a soup (although the one they have is FANTASTIC) and more drink options. Other than that I could eat here every day! I really appreciate, in the days of gouging, that the prices for quality food are fair!”

“I ordered a 16oz breve with an espresso shot ($5.50+0.75), and a breakfast bun on the croissant with banana peppers ($7+$1+$0.25). The cream in the breve added enough sweetness I didn't need to add sugar - very good coffee. I found the light amount of seasoning in the breakfast bun really elevated it beyond something similar I'd make at home, but I'd still find it hard to justify the cost for something that left me relatively hungry still.

The building itself is gorgeous. The wooden beams and columns are beautiful, and an abundance of skylights and windows let in lots of light. I arrived around 10am on a Wednesday and the place was packed full with customers. The seating area inside is rather small, so it was a bit noisy with all the conversations, but not enough that I wouldn't be able to chat with someone next to me. Overall, I enjoyed the atmosphere.

Service was fast and courteous. The servers drop food off at a pre-determined spot and call out the name for the order. I wish the staff called out names louder; I would have missed my order if I weren't more vigilant.”

“we were spending a couple nights in Nelson. we stopped at Backwoods for lunch. great beer selection. JJ suggested we get pizza across the street for food. Thanks to him, I had the best NY style pizza I have had in a long time, and I'm originally from NYC now Oregon. JJ was awesome to chat with about Nelson. I came back later to fill a growler. 5 stars for staff and beer”

My first time here I saw a Mexican grandmother break down and cry yelling frantically about the food being better than her own home cooking, reminiscent of what her own grandmother used to cook for her. They gave her a free dessert and she calmed down after a few more cocktails. Great guacamole”

“Just cocktails down in this little speakeasy. No matter who your bartender is either Cameron or Cody and their counterparts will provide you with a delicious and wonderful experience. I cannot recommend it enough. No place in Nelson holds a candle to this place for delicious cocktails and atmosphere.”

“More than a coffee shop: freash art on the walls, monthly poetry slam, printed clothing for sale, great staff and customers who are fun and interesting to talk to. Did I miss anything? Yeah, there's a play area for kids and an informal meet-the-baby event almost every day. Sweet spot.”

“This is definitely a the best ice cream shop in town! I love coming here it refreshes me and since it’s so hot out I will come here everyday. I got the Sour Watermelon it is my favourite! They have awesome special cones with cereals and chocolate on them. There is an awesome peach drink which will definitely refresh you in the hot summer heat. I love this place definitely coming back here so much I will tell all my friends about this awesome place”

“I had the most delicious cake at my friends house the other day from Cake Betty. It was so wonderful that I feel compelled to write a review. Today I went to Cake Betty with another friend who bought the most beautiful small cake for a birthday gift. The owner gave us each a cupcake to enjoy. It was the best cupcake I’ve ever eaten - white cake with butter icing and a little bit of caramel sauce. So delicate and satisfying - I could have eaten three of them :)The bakery is so cute - like a tiny bakery in London, or the West Village. A lovely historical building with a sweet little store front. Go to Cake Betty - you will not be disappointed:)”

“Pretty solid. Not the best ramen I have had but very solid. Their tea lattes are very good. We had the Butternut miso pork and Tantan pork with Rose matcha and Hojicha obsidian. I definitely prefer the Tantan. The Butternut miso is slightly on the salty side. Overall a good experience and the server was nice. Would return again.”

“We bought mini cupcakes for an anniversary party….we were beyond impressed! They were the best cupcakes we’ve ever had! We had a variety of flavors that all came through in flavor. They didn’t specify any decorations came with the price but they were so beautifully decorated! We specified a pick up time and was no problem. We didn’t realize it at the time but they should have been closed but stayed to accommodate us. Highly, highly recommend!”

“Sky-Lea is a truly incredible caretaker and educator. We were fortunate enough to vacation in Nelson with our entire family (grandparents, sibling-in-laws, and kiddos) and stubbled upon Acorn + Oak Childcare on the Nelson tourism website.

She was so fantastic with our 2 year old and allowed the rest of the fam to spend time on the mountain together without having to worry about him having a wonderful time, getting a nap, etc. She's truly fantastic. Can't recommend highly enough.”

“2024 Empire is the best coffee shop in Nelson hands down.

Great coffee everytime, super consistent, tons of options for snacks and bakery including great gluten free choices. The sandwiches are excellent and great prices, all can be subbed with Gluten free bun or sourdough for $2.

Bourbon Chicken Sandwich might the best thing you can eat in town with $15.

Dietary restrictions: Excellent gluten free options, any sandwhich can be subbed for a gf bun or sourdough, lots of gf options for baking including cookies, muffins, bars, banana bread, etc.”

“This has to be the best cafe in Nelson. I love the owner, Daylen, and her wonderful staff; always keen to give great service with a smile.
Their muffins, of course, are the BEST in town, but everything else they do is sensational as well. The vibe in this cafe is always cozy, regardless of the time of year.

I will never stop recommending this coffee shop to everyone in town! The Very BEST! :)

My friend that lives in Nelson took me here for lunch and I chose the pickle pizza and if you've never had it this is the best pickle pizza I've ever had in my life period she goes to vegetarian burger.”

“Great food and service! The cocktail list is interesting and creative. I had the Marlin Brando. Sweet and tart deliciousness. They have a lunch special that sounded really good but I chose the Yum-Son noodle bowl. The meat was done perfectly and the sauce and other “stuff” was fresh and tasty. My boyfriend had the yellow curry. Also excellent! My only negative was the tip prompt on the pos terminal started at 22%.... I think that’s an industry trend though.”

“On a recent trip to Nelson we stumbled into El Taco after following the delicious smell from the street. Delicious food and drinks, and we loved the atmosphere and fantastic staff. I recommend the Chipotle Cheese Dip and Mexican Mule.”

“The food was good and the waitress was lovely. Feedback would be to not try to charge an extra $2.50 for an "artisan lettuce bun" (haha!) which is the same cost as a gluten-free bun! I have never been charged elsewhere for a couple leaves of lettuce when opting out of bread.”
