“Absolutely incredible dining experience! The food at Shanghai River is simply exceptional. From the perfectly crispy Peking duck to the savory xiao long bao, every dish is bursting with flavor and authenticity. The ambiance is inviting and the service is top-notch. Whether you're craving traditional Shanghai cuisine or looking to explore new flavors, this restaurant is a must-visit. Can't wait to come back for more!“
“Located in Aberdeen mall food court, menu has lots of selections from soup dumplings, scallion pancakes, noodle dishes and soups and more. 小龙包 pork soup dumplings were tasty good size. 6 for $10 CAD. Scallion onion pancake was okay...dough thicker than I'm used to.“
“Went for dinner at night and ordered fried dumplings, steamed buns, Shanghai stir-fry, bean paste nest cakes, fermented rice dumplings, a soup with salted duck, and ordered fried dumplings. All the food is very good and above the standard. In order to eat their fried buns, I went to buy a takeaway the next morning. The takeaways are delicious, the skin is so thin and the meat is juicy! The food is as good as many Shanghai restaurants in Hong Kong. The waiters are all very kind.“
“Amazing experience. Just stumbled across this place for lunch. Very easy to accommodate our veggie lovers and meat lovers alike! Green onion cakes and veggies rice were a favorite all around. The veggie and the pork dumplings were tasty and the beef rolls. Dandan noodles were amazing. Really hit the spot. Can't wait to come back and try new things!“
“Photos on the wall don't do it justice. This place has some gems on the menu, but it is important to ask! We ordered the Ba Bao Jiang Mian, a noodle soup with a very well done chicken stew that had some Sichuan mala flavor but wasn't spicy. But if we didn't get the advice of another diner we'd have not known to order it. Glad we asked.Service was friendly as well. There are dimsum items on the menu that look delicious as well.“
“The XLB’s has the best soup. The pan fried dumplings has a bit took much skin. But the soup in it was also tasty.I really enjoyed the bounce of the noodles. We also ordered hot and sour soup but forgot to take a pic.A very enjoyable lunch with friends.“
“Came here from the amazingly high google reviews and this place did not disappoint. Had their Xiao Lun Bao and Beef noodle soup. On the corner of the kitchen there's a little old lady making the baos by hand. Each were amazingly done and food came super quick after ordering. It is cash only so be prepared. Really good authentic food. Will definitely return.Parking: Parking is horrible in the parking lot. I parked on School ave near safeway and there were ample free parking. No time limit.“
“Pretty average dimsum place, the dumplings were decent and I didn’t find anything wrong with them, it’s just that we usually go to Crystal mall for our xlbs/pan fried steamed soup buns and they’re much bigger at the same/a very similar price point. Hence, we’d probably stick to Crystal Mall if we want to get our soup bun fix (if you don’t mind the crowdedness and lack of seating.)“
“Spent a few hours in the Crystal Mall on a Wednesday, and was so disappointed to see that Shanghai Dim Sum was closed for the day, my favorite XLB shop.Oh well, we ate some other delicious things, the standout was the shengjian bao, pan fried pork buns from Shanghai Fortune Cuisine. It was lined up and everyone in the rooms seemed to be eating them.Wow, they were good. Crispy on the bottom, tender on top, full of soup and pork. Delicious. Staff is friendly too!I think I found a new favorite.“
“There weren't many people there when we went, which I was surprised by given how good the food was. It's a rare thing that I can say that I truly enjoyed ALL of the dishes we got- we ordered plates for the table- but it's absolutely true. We got the sweet and sour chicken, which perfectly crispy and definitely not stringy, with perfectly crispy vegetables including grilled mango, and had plenty of sauce. (And I'm not a vegetable person in general). The shanghai fried noodle was perfectly sauced, the noodles perfectly cooked. The spicy chicken was also perfectly spicy- not hot, but specifically spicy, which is a taste I haven't had much and really enjoy. The scallion pancakes were just the right amount of flaky, and the guotie was also pretty great. Overall, a fantastic dining experience. I enjoyed it just as much the next day for leftovers!“
“The best Steamed Mini Pork Buns I ever had. It’s quite a decent sized Xiao Long Bao. There’s plenty of soup inside these beautiful delicate softness, as if woven by celestial hands (auntie’s), so be extra gentle in removing them from the bamboo steamer. We ordered Combo A so it comes with Tofu Puff with Vermicelli Soup, that was also quite simple and yet delicious. We will definitely go back for more!Parking: Parking is free for the first 3 hours. Don’t go during peak time.“
“Came here on a Saturday afternoon, we were seated promptly after a 5-10 minute wait. Very friendly staff and food was amazing. Highly recommend to try their Dumpling King - 6 pieces of pan-fried Shanghainese dumpling, very flavourful and oozing with hot soup when bitten into. The dry noodle with braised pork chop was also phenomenal - the meat was super tender and sweet. They also have some chili oil and vinegar on the side which goes very well with the food. One critique is that quite a few bowls/dipping sauce plate were not cleaned properly when they were brought to us. There were stains on the bowls but the staff replaced them promptly for us.Overall, this place is a bustling small restaurant that serves traditional and well-made Shanghainese food, definitely recommend trying out.“
