Visited this local Lao spot on a friend’s recommendation and wow, it didn’t disappoint! From the moment we walked in, the vibe was cozy and welcoming - exactly what you’d want from a neighborhood gem. The service was on point too; our server was super friendly, gave us great recommendations, and really knew their stuff. Now, let’s talk food because that’s the real star here. I went for the Pad Kee Mao, and it was absolutely delicious - spicy, flavorful, and just packed with all the good stuff. But the unexpected highlight? Their oysters! Affordable, fresh, and just so tasty, they were a total game-changer for me. It’s not often you find such quality at those prices.Overall, this place is a must-visit if you’re in the mood for some authentic Lao cuisine or just in search of a solid dining experience. Great food, great prices, and great service. I’ll definitely be back!

Been meaning to post - as one who never posts, I definitely want to when it comes to supporting a good business with good food and hard working staff. The Laotian food is really good and beautifully presented in unique wicker baskets, with real orchids, or in banana leaves (Mok Pla, Krapaw, and their super crispy pork belly are all excellent). The sushi they once had was also excellent - but they had trouble finding quality sushi chefs to cover more shifts so they had to draw back on that. But I can tell the owners want high quality and good tasting food made by excellent chefs. Their portions are good, esp for the lunch meals. And Dara is wonderful and remembers the name of my son and works so hard! Though it has 2 different ethnic foods going on, they're BOTH good. It was a perfect combo for me who lives SE Asian food and my husband who loves sushi!

Good food and interesting fusions of styles. Great mango salad and soups. I haven't tried the sush.

The wife and I went to Laos for their $1 oyster special. I don't like raw oyster much and this place is making me enjoy the oysters, We also had shrimp egg rolls and spicy garlic noodles. We will definitely be back .

Genuine Thai dishes (and authentic Thai spicy dishes). Spice/hot dish scale is Asian vs. European/American Spicy - (so start with medium or mild and add spice if needed). Wonderful food and service. A hidden gem...

So I heard about Lao and Sushi Bistro through instagram, so being Lao it was a must try! The restaurant is smaller than I imagined but welcoming. Parking is tight but we eventually found one a street over. The restaurant itself is in a very bustling downtown area so be prepare to search for parking. Went on a Saturday afternoon after 1 pm, was only two customers in the restaurant and we were quickly seated. We ordered three entrees- sai oua aka Lao sausages, soup nor mai aka bamboo salad, and of course we had to have the Lao style papaya salad w a side of brown rice for me and sticky rice for my daughter. Yum ! All the dishes were flavorful and I would say my fav was the Lao style papaya salad, as it reminds me of home. Portions are generous and for two ppl was too much! Ha ha we took home the leftovers and I had enjoyed it for dinner. All in all, we enjoyed our meal and will be back to try other dishes again! FYI as of January 1, 2024- they do no longer serve Sushi but still have a large menu options of Lao and Thai food. Enjoy and try new things!

I got the garlic noodles with chicken, which comes with salad and appetizer, make sure to add Sticky rice to your order it's amazing. The service is fast and friendly, I really love the decor and how open the space is. Will definitely return!! 5

Alameda's food scene is getting better and better. Newcomer Lao and Sushi Bistro is serving up the best of both worlds, Laotian fare and sushi. From the sushi side we got one of my faves, the spicy hamachi petals and a Golden State Roll which the rice was a little too mushy for me. From the Laotian side, Mok Pla and Kao Soi Gai, both delicious. If dollar oysters happen to be the special of the day, don't be like me opting for only 5, get yourself a dozen of these fresh beauties, so good.

Lots of vegetarian options - the mango asparagus roll is so unique and refreshing! My partner loved the gang dang gai and loved it, the spice was perfect

Sooooo good. Bold flavors, beautiful presentation and creative textures. We got the kao soy gai and larb gai and the sticky rice in bamboo for dessert. The service was so pleasant and accommodating. Felt like eating at home. Loved it! Will be back for sure

This place is awesome, has a great vibe, really sweet and attentive staff, and most importantly delicious food at very reasonable prices. Of the sushi I only tried the California roll, and it wasn't bad but not especially good, although the serving was very generous and came with Tobiko. My mother is from Japan, so I often am critical of non-Japanese Sushi in general. But the Laotian food was phenomenal, and I have been 3 times and it has been really good everytime. Highly recommend this spot.
