“This is a top tier Berkeley brunch spot! The food was great and I was amazed at how efficient the staff was, especially since this place is busy busy busy! All the food I tried was amazing. The churro waffles were so good: crispy and generously coated in sugar and cinnamon with fresh fruit and ice cream! The short rib hash was soooo good. The meat was so flavorful and tender. We were here for a birthday and they even gave us a birthday treat for the celebrant (MORE churro waffles! 2 pcs) What impressed me most was how efficient the staff ran this place! The line was super long - but don't be intimidated. The line is to place your order at a counter, then you take your order number and find a seat. The staff was helpful in getting us sat. The food comes out super fast after that. Would highly recommend this place!“
“How has my mom not been here? She would love it. I came with my dad at least once, possibly twice. The food is very good. It's breakfast food, nothing extraordinarily innovative, but it looks and feels very clean, which is something I don't normally notice or comment on. The real attention-getter, the reason you come here, is its surprisingness and quaintness. You don't expect to find a place like this where it is in West Berkeley, but it's here! And you're not imagining things. I'll definitely be back, but I tend not to think of Berkeley anymore, which is understandable and sad and justified, but ancient. (Make mine a 99.)“

“I had the Nasi Goreng breakfast, its yellow rice, 2 eggs OE and fried chicken, ask for the 50/50, half carrot juice half OJ. Dang good and yummy!! Of course, you can go for the waffles and chicken, but i choose to be differently Asian. Oh and ask for the spicy sauce to top off your chicken. MmmmHhmmm!!“
“Really love Sam’s! The Chilaquiles are my go to choice and if the sun is out, a table in the sunshine is pure perfection. The staff is efficient - I would welcome a little more friendliness if they are taking notes. Also I would buy a latte every time if they would put in a mug rather than a clear glass. Lately choosing iced tea instead. I especially love coming on a weekday when there is generally no wait time. The heaters are well placed and going on cold days is still really nice.Parking: Be willing to walk 5 min and you can find free street parking.“
“Great variety of breakfast. They serve big portions, so sharing is a good option. The service was good however there were some language barriers. We sat outside, and the staff made it as comfortable as possible, however, the street and near construction sites made it a bit louder.“
“What a yummy surprise. We were looking for a quick, good dinner. Luckily, we found Bandit. Good, fresh food. Some delicious vegetarian options. I had an egg and cheese burrito. The salsa was good. Kids had vegetarian pork sandwich and chicken sandwich. The chicken was well-seasoned, perfectly cooked and the aioli was delicious. Hubby also liked the Bad MoFo. Tater Tots are a delicious addition.Vegetarian options: Breakfast is served all day, so fried eggs available. Also impossible patties.Kid-friendliness: Good portions.“

“A true Oakland gem. One of the best brunches in Oakland. (They also have great lunch and dinner options). I've been going to Portal for about 10 years or however long they've been open. “A fun little find located just a few blocks away from the USS Potomac and USS Potomac Visitors Center. Quick, pleasant service and delicious food. I had the Crab Omelette which was superb. My dining companion tried a sandwich and side salad, and was very pleased. The portions are quite generous. It has a laid back comfortable atmosphere. Highly recommended.“
