“i tried cafe hopping and this place really hit the spot! there is free wifi, but im not sure if there's any outlets so come with your devices fully charged. i ordered the matcha bliss which came out perfectly and quick. if you like your matchas sweet, then this is the place to go. the menus tell you what's in the drink too, so ur not left wondering what's in it. i would definitely come back here again to study! not too packed and quiet environment“
“Found a new favorite cafe in town! Lovely interior and very friendly owner and staff. I've been going almost every day for the past two weeks for their Persian Rose Tea and am just starting to try out their baked goods. Cardamom and saffron cookie goes really well with the tea!“
“Algerian baked goods and sweets at their best! Incredibly, this tiny sidewalk cafe makes all their own pastries and sweets on-site. The owner/baker/muffin maker is almost always there, making community and croissant sandwiches. Seating on the sidewalk will, with great good luck, be upgraded soon with a parklet.“
“Very impressed with their tiny breakfast burrito - had the chorizo and veggie versions on a recent visit. Couldn't taste as much of the chorizo as other places, so maybe they could add a little more for a better flavor kick? Friendly staff, cozy atmosphere, and WOC-owned...look forward to trying more of their menu. Support this small business if you're in the neighborhood!“
“I had a great time and so did my guest ,we are planning to do a 1year anniversary with vendors next time, many people ask for the number to call to book there own events ? I was very happy will the overall quick action and timely responses from Adam and other staff members, all arrangements and rerangements were on point .Thank you ? see you soon“
“I love coming here for my caffeine and nature hit. It’s one of the best in Berk Berk… an oasis ?Dietary restrictions: Vegan and gluten freeParking: Hot tip: if you know where the other side of the park is, there’s always a spotKid-friendliness: Baby and kid friendly ❤️ Tons of moms and strollers and babies“
“Delicious coffee down at the Marina? Hell yeah, pls & thank you! ❤️? Jasraj, the owner of Roaming Bean Coffee, is super chill & kind, obviously loves what he does, and imho he definitely knows his craft. My latte was perfect. I'm no expert by far, but I do know a bit, I love me some good coffee, and I've had espresso & lattes both good & bad.... and I'm just sayin, Roaming Bean does it RIGHT. Temperature, taste, everything. Seriously- for me, at least, this was the perfect latte. And they're MOBILE! Friggin awesome! He said they'd been at César Chávez Park for awhile but plan on being here at the Berkeley Marina on the weekends (next to the public Small Craft Launching Docks, next to Cal Sailing Club) for a number of weeks to come. If you find yourself at the Marina on the weekend, come on over & show Roaming Bean some love. Thanks, Jasraj! Next time, I'm totally gonna try that Brown Sugar Cardamom latte....“
“Boichik is a weekly favorite of mine. You can't go wrong with your choice of bagel, although pumpernickel caraway salt is currently my top choice. The coffee's good too, hot or iced. On top of everything, everyone who works there is super, super nice. SPECIAL SHOUT OUT to Lisa! She always makes my day and never fails to brighten up the room :)Last thing to keep in mind for the uninitiated: there's limited seating (especially when it's raining -- there are just 4 tables inside) and the bagels tend to get sold out before 11:30-12 on the weekend.Vegetarian options: They have vegan cream cheese (plain, strawberry, or chive) and several of their bagels are inherently vegan. Vegan creamer is available as well.“
“After trying many matcha einspanner drinks in LA, I've been craving one in the Bay Area. I tried the iced mindspanner matcha and ceremonial matcha latte with suggested sweetness. The iced mindspanner matcha had a very light matcha flavor, so I'd definitely recommend adding extra matcha for $1.25. This one didn't compare to the other einspanner matcha drinks I've had in LA. But, there wasn't an extra charge for oat milk so that was nice. The ceremonial matcha latte had a good matcha flavor and was definitely the better drink of the two.“
“Good atmosphere and good chicken pesto panini. If they had blended coffee drinks with a silent blender, it would be much better. But still worth itParking: Not a lot of parking options. The city will soon remove most nearby parking in the area so they can put up some cement dividers. Soon you will only be able to walk/bike there.Wheelchair accessibility: Yes, accessible.“
“Lovely little cafe! Definitely one of my favorites in the bay area currently. Atmosphere and customer service is very welcoming and relaxing. The orange blossom latte was very delicious and unique. The apple turnover was also very tasty and flaky. I wish I had taken photos, but I got too excited and ate/drank everything before I thought about it. I have no complaints!“
“Soft music unlike many places. Attentive but not overdone service (noticed my partner looking around and asked if we wanted anything else). Vegan panini was good and even came with a little potato salad. Nice to support a small business since it's tough running a small business.“
“This time i tried the rich and roasty latte with espresso cream. It's amazing. I also got the banana bread pudding. Omg it's so sinful! I'm amazed at how fast they make the matcha drinks, since they're more complicated than coffee.“
“I love donuts! This place not only has the variety of flavors but the customer service is excellent. Very friendly couple helped me with my order. I got the maple bacon donuts, twists, and donut holes. I found out about them through the Too Good To Go app. I'm so happy I did cuz now I have a new favorite spot. Very happy tummy!“
“This cafe is a great place to study because of its wonderful atmosphere. Drinks are also pretty good, as are pastries. However, what truly makes Cafe 1951 stand out is its incredible employees! They are extremely kind and friendly, making this a great cafe experience. Service is also quick.“
“The man behind the counter has such a fantastic attitude and personality- thank you. AND both the regular coffee and creative coffee drinks are great. I was surprised by how good the vegan donuts are too. At first I was disappointed that there weren’t other types of pastries to try, but these are really yummy!Vegetarian options: All vegan!“
“iScream for ice cream! As a child, it was always special when my family would take me here for a sweet treat. Fast forward, now that I'm dairy-free, I haven't been to iScream since I was a teen but I'm so glad that I've come back with my childhood best friend! My best friend and I came on a weekday afternoon. It was the perfect sunny day for dessert. The ice cream parlor is on the smaller end with a couple of tables, but it mainly operates as take-out. Plenty of happy families and customers come in, and service has always been inviting and kind. Operating as an artisan ice cream shop, you can taste the quality of their ingredients, plus free samples. They offer traditional and specialty flavors as well as different sizes and cups and cones. Their Burnt Caramel was my go-to as a child but this go around I had baby scoop of the Pink Grapefruit Sorbet. The Pink Grapefruit Sorbet was sweet and the grapefruit flavor came at the end, though it melted quite fast. My only wish is that they offer more vegan flavors! My friend enjoyed the Marzipan. iScream is a special place ice cream lovers gravitate towards on Solano Ave. Find street parking in the area. There's always a group of happy customers coming in and out! I'm looking forward to coming back again soon.“
“This review is for the dinner service, which is lovely, full of charm, and has a serious appreciation for food as art. Each dish was incredibly flavorful, curated, and came with fresh ingredients. Overall, the dishes had quality ingredients that were thoughtfully put together, and well worth the value. The vibe and ambiance was fit for both a playful date and an evening with friends. The person behind the counter was also very kind and took his time to suggest wine pairings and dishes. So grateful for this place -- it definitely is a spot for good dining in Berkeley.“
“Omg what can I say about this delightful spot on Solano. Love the beverages. I tried their Oolong Latte and oh my stars, how divine ✨️. My awesome gal pal had the Ube Latte and that was so divine as well.I am looking forward to trying their Matcha Latte next ?“
“CoRo is a very unique place. A very nice Cafe with very knowledgeable staff and a coop coffee roasting facility in the back, where you can watch the roasting and processing of the magic beans happen, right before your eyes. The feature some of the unique coffees that are roasted there and offer local baked goods, as well.“
“Love this spot! There’s always a delicious pastry or 3 available, boichik bagels with vegan schmear options, and they had HAND PIES the other day from Edith’s Pie (like a guest pop up situation I’m guessing?) I got the chorizo potato and my spouse ordered the sausage, egg, and cheese. We were both pleased! The staff is always really nice, there’s ample seating inside, a bar area, a back patio, and two or three tables our front.“
“The place is nice and quite common within the area, the people who serve are very friendly and the coffees are very delicious. Taking out the empanadas they have, I didn't see many other Argentine things, I expected more bakery related to Argentina but there wasn't much.“
“Best value caffe latte in the Bay Area! This establishment offers a solid latte for $3.75 along with tasty pastries and donuts from the finest high end bakeries in the East Bay. The setting is no frills with a few tables and chairs in a largely empty parking lot with no car traffic that catches the sun. The huge lot must be worth a fortune as Fellini splits it with a pizza restaurant, hence the lack of traffic. I paid $6.50 for a latte at Sightglass in San Francisco that was not as good. My latte and 2 excellent pastries came to $12. The gentleman behind the counter was kind and friendly. You can also purchase their exclusive Mr Espresso roasted beans at an equally reasonable price. Head there quick before the landlord cashes in on the lot which is right across the street from Target. Best value latte and easiest parking in Berkeley makes this a new favorite destination for me.Parking: Largest and emptiest parking lot in Berkeley“
“Love this place! Thankfully they have outdoor seating on the sidewalk -- not in the street. Plus, there are roll down plastic wind screens. The desserts were down right terrific. We enjoyed two Bingsoo, and a Thai tea crepe cake for four of us. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. Definitely coming back.“
“Its been a few year since I was last here. Not a bad spot. Their signature coffee was pretty good from what I remember. Also the food options are good.I use to work in the building they are part of, so I frequented this spot. Not a bad option for coffee or lunch.“
“A great coffee shop in Berkeley with a great atmosphere to study in. Tucked away in a small alleyway near campus, the cafe offers a variety of drinks and spaces for students to study. It has many outlets and free Wi-Fi, which is very convenient for students who want a change of scenery from campus. I usually order their Strawberry Matcha Latte or their Chai Latte with an added expresso shot. Their Strawberry Matcha Latte has a very creamy texture and their strawberry puree is very sweet. I definitely recommend cutting on the sugar level if you like to taste more of the matcha. Their Chai Latte is by far the best I had in Berkeley. My friends and I always watch them steep the tea per order and it is simply amazing. Sometimes I liked to add an expresso shot for an extra caffeine boost and it never fails me.“
“The Tie Guan Yin milk tea with boba, 80% sweetness and less ice is my favorite boba order in Berkeley. It’s pricey but always tastes great. The seating is very comfortable but the indoors is a little cramped. Order ahead if you don’t want to wait 15+ mins at the busiest times.“
“Great coffee and service, pleasant premises, Zen like patio in the back. My rating scale is tough and this establishment which serves a fine latte and cortado with solid roasted bean notes and flavors deserves a solid 4. Souvenir occupies the prior location of Semifreddi’s Bakery, a few blocks West from the Claremont Hotel. Next door is a comic book and poster store that harkens back to the 60s and 70s and well worth a visit on its own. Souvenir roasts its own beans which my readers know by now means a lot to me. The premises were full which is always a good sign. The back patio represents an oasis of tranquility in hectic Berkeley. Service was excellent and the kind young ladies took the time to explain which beans were used for espresso, all with a smile. This establishment deserves your business - and linger a while in the patio.“
“I have to admit that these bagels really are delicious and they very much remind me of some of my favorites from New York in particular, and the East Coast generally. In fact, with the exception that it's too far away for me to just walk there and get a warm one, it kind of reminds me of a cross between an H&H bagel and an Ess-a-bagel from Manhattan. I've been there twice now, and I've had a plain bagel with lox, a sesame bagel with cream cheese, and the frozen plain bagels, and some fresh cinnamon raisin bagels. All were fresh and delicious. There always seems to be a crowd outside the shop, particularly because you walk up to order from the outside and then the bagels are brought out to you, so everybody's either waiting for their order or ordering be mindful of their opening hours, because they close a little early, and you know what it's like when you're really wanting a bagel and they're closed, or sold out. Honestly, it's probably best for me that I can only get these when I happen to be in Berkeley, and that only happens every few months.“
“My friend Manu got me a pork sandwich from Standard Fare, and it was absolutely delicious. The flavors were balanced, and the focaccia was crisp on the outside, soft on the inside. It was delicious without feeling heavy, and it was bright. My only complaint is that everything was so perfect there's nothing to complain about. Highly recommend!“
“One of the most unique cafes in Berkeley, worth a visit for sure! Nice working atmosphere, decent snack and small bite selection, solid drinks and friendly and efficient service. Love the board games theme and concept of the cafe and hope to have the time to try it out one day. Seems to have a strong community and would definitely come back with friends later on. Honey lavender latte is very nice. Some of the drink flavors are more subtle but the baristas are very friendly and were happy to add more and adjust to your preferences.“
“Here is the best place I have found for a take out breakfast, specifically their breakfast burritos. I have them to add ham , as I was tired of all the breakfast sandwiches with sausage giving me a tummy ache. Their burritos are cooked in a coordinated fashion in different pans assembly is completed right after they add the tater tots. It's perfection in a tortilla roll. Well worth the extra money, you won't be disappointed.“
“I recently moved to Berkeley and found this cafe by chance. I enjoy their coffee, smoothies.and wraps. Food is always fresh and very delicious. If you are looking for good food at fair price definitely worth trying.Parking: Thia Cafe is Right in front of thw parking garage.“
“There’s no shade outside the Gilman Berkeley location. The only table umbrella there was broken. Every table was taken inside. The only choice was to bake in direct sunlight. The same issue exists in the Castro, SF and Fremont locations: no shaded seating outside.“
“Got two pies for Pi Day at work. Coconut Cream and Chocolate cream. At first I was like, dang price is pretty high . But as soon as the gushing from my staff about how incredible the pies were and they still can't stop talking about them, I knew it was worth every penny. A great place to pick up special occasion pies if you're on a teacher salary like me. Or if you have more flexibility with price, I'd be getting a pie every weekend as a tasty treat. Feels so great to have a small business that makes these INCREDIBLE delightful treats . I'm looking forward to the next Pi Day at work.“
“Candied yam latte was so delicious!! I had ordered the rose cardamom latte, but some lady took it, and then they were out of the cardamom syrup. :( so they let me take the lady’s latte (mocha latte, which was good!) and made me whatever else I wanted, which was so kind! And that’s why I ended up with a candied yam latte. And honestly I am so glad I got to try it! When I got to the bottom there was real yam at the bottom! Very impressed. And the staff was so nice!! Also.. free wifi! Just no outlets. (That I could find) I recommend!“
“Great Cafe Spot! The breakfast and coffee options are great and Eric and Hugo will make sure you get what you are looking for. Having a great coffee fix is good, but having that with the exceptional customer service is way better. Love this place!“
“Landed in San Francisco and searched for a coffee shop to grab a quick bite. Found this place and definitely did not regret it. The staff was kind and efficient. The food was amazing! We order 3 different empanadas and each was soft, flavorful and stuffed full of meat. My favorite was the chorizo. The coffee tasted super fresh and was so good. Definitely will be back.“
“Great local coffee. I enjoyed their coffee when they pop up at the my local farmer's market in Castro Valley every Saturday. Taste fresh and gets me through my farmer's market shopping with my two toddlers in tow. Met the owner, James and he was super friendly.“
“Reasonably priced drinks and good, free wifi, no frills service, lots of seating, close to campus -- perfect for a quick lunch or coffee break. Not much "ambience" wise but Yali's is definitely convenient. The inside can get pretty loud so not the best place for hardcore studying, but if you need a seat and some decent food/coffee, this is the place! I'd recommend getting here earlier in the day if you want a greater pick of food options. Most of the pastries are sold out by 12pm-1pm ish, and they stop offering breakfast options (e.g. bagels, oatmeal) at 11am I think which is a little disappointing. Wish they continued offering bagels throughout the day. Their sandwiches are pretty good but small and will run you $10+. A coffee will run you $4-6 which I feel like is normal for Berkeley; again, coffee is decent but not mind blowing. My wait time around the noon rush is about 10-15 minutes. A great spot for quick food and coffee. Service and food options could be better, but otherwise, Yali's is great for the location and convenience.“
“The sandwiches are delicious. The honey wheat bread is excellent. The salads are excellent. The restaurant Nice and clean.Parking: Parking is terrible. To the owners, is it possible to open another restaurant? Is this your only location? The rock ridge area will be a great location for another restaurant with parking.“
“I went into Delah Coffee House and really enjoyed the detailed and colorful decor. The ambience was very calm, quiet, and the place had a lot of seating. The barista was really kind and recommended the Yemini Latte iced. The coffee was a little pricey but was flavorful and strong. but overall tasted good! This is place I will definitely come back to.“
“This is our favorite non-fancy bougie breakfast and coffee place in Berkeley. I always get the croissant breakfast sandwich with orange juice. They also serve THE avocado toast (the one that prevents us millennials from buying property) and their iced coffees are delicious too.“
“Ridiculously great, staff was outstanding helpful and accommodating. We had my wife's 60th birthday or like she likes to say her 45th there. It was a great location and the food was above all expectations. We had a private event and they were helpful from start to finish. This is a class act would highly recommended“
“I discovered this cafe today and love it! It opens onto Adeline and it's bright, cheery, and artsy. The guy working there was working really hard and knew half the customers who came in. There's a great variety of breakfast sandwiches and lunch-type sandwiches. I had the chicken salad sandwich which was bursting with flavor. My sandwich and a drink were only $10.“
“This is your corner bagel shop and cafe. The decor is spare and the chairs are slightly worn and comfortable to sit in. Surrounded by windows, it’s a good place to sit and watch people and traffic. Not too loud with good background white noise- it’s great to work, and seating is flexible for medium sized groups.Coffee is decent. Bagel sandwiches are good. Prices are average for Berkeley. Also pastries and stuff. The friendly owner is ALWAYS there and if you come in a few times he’ll probably remember your order. The clientele is an eclectic mix of Cal students, construction workers from nearby projects, locals, and an “eclectic” Berkeley crowd. Also occasional families with young kids.Basically, Royal Grounds is the kind of unpretentious place you can drop into, come-as-you-are, for a coffee, bagel, and chill for awhile. A kind of stoic non-judgemental sanctuary to refuel, recharge, and go about your day.Your regular corner stop bagel shop ?Kid-friendliness: Wide open space. Good background noise. Friendly service.Wheelchair accessibility: Very roomy. Concrete floors and tables you can roll right up to.“
“I came from NYC needing a perfect place to have a coffee and stare at the streets. Kind owner and they had epic amounts of the New Yorker. It made my heart smile :) Thank you for making me feel at home with a wonderful espresso and time with my husband.“
“Literally 5 Stars across the board!! Their staff is amazing everyday of the week! The food always has me ready to take a nap after eating!!! You have to try the BLTA, made to perfection everytime! Thank you, you all and all that you do are highly appreciated!“
“Everything was incredible. Not only was the food delicious. The owner showed our 3 year old daughter all the choices and made her a custom small plate. It was very family friendly and delicious. Can’t wait to go back!!Vegetarian options: DeliciousParking: Lots of street spaces to park atKid-friendliness: They were very accommodating for kids. We had 5 kids total from baby to 3 year old. They were so friendly.“
