This restaurant is another hideaway gem. Located @the corner of 4th and Gilman the outside is nothing spectacular.Victoria and her staff are pleasant and attentive. I enjoy the homey Mom & Pop atmosphere.Food is really good and the prices are reasonable especially if you are a senior citizen on a budget. The menu is not extensive but appears to cover anyone's palate. I bring friends here all the time. I usually come on Sundays but have had occasions to eat here during the week.Give the place a try. You will not regret it!

So happy I stumbled on this place. Multi-generational restaurant with amazing personal service and tasty bacon, eggs and omelettes.

Was looking for a new breakfast place and was heading to Oakland from Albany but the highway was packed due to an accident. Got off at Gillman and Siri guided us to Gillman Grill. Parking was a breeze , quick seating and friendly staff. Good, solid menu items and a “loco moko” special made our day. Laid back and conveniently located ( for us) . Come on down!

So, I went back to this place I had a great breakfast at about a year ago, and I've got to say, this time around was a whole different story. Back in the day, this joint left a real good impression with hearty portions and some killer home fries that had me eager to come back. But this time, it was a letdown, big time.First thing I noticed was the portion size. It's like they shrunk 'em down or something. What was once a satisfying meal now left me wanting more. And the taste? It just wasn't the same. The dishes lacked that punch that made me fall in love with the place the first time. And then there's the service. Man, they totally dropped the ball. They forgot to bring us utensils to stir our coffee, and they barely refilled it once throughout the whole meal. That's not how they used to roll. The friendly vibe I got during my last visit was nowhere to be found. All in all, my recent visit to the spot was a far cry from the awesome breakfast I had the first time. Smaller portions, lackluster food, and subpar service left me feeling disappointed and wondering if I'd come back again. Hoping they step up their game and bring back the magic that drew me in initially.

We had a fabulous brunch here! Food was pretty fast, and very good. Service was wonderful, just enough attention and never in the way. A very nice experience. We highly recommend this establishment.

The philly cheesesteak sandwich was so bad. It is the only time I have ever returned food at a restaurant. It had a weird chemical taste to it, I wonder what on earth happened to it...rancid meat? something fell into the cheese wile it was cooking? Who knows. It was also 90% rubbery cheese. Partner had a burger, and it was also just meh. $40 for a burger, the sandwich, a sprite, and a beer. They did take half off of the sandwich that we did not eat. My can of sprite was great.

Great family run diner. I eat here 4 to 5 times a week

Great American breakfast experience. In an area where former heavy industry and businesses used to be the only costumers. Now, it is a mix of old-timers, professionals, and families. Good experience and nice brunch

I don't take part, but there is almost friendly conversation at the front bar. Always fresh pie available. And it tastes/looks like my meals are always made from scratch/fresh.That potato salad can not be bought from the store! Great sandwhiches

Love their Philly cheese steak sandwich with some good traditional hot sauce. If you like some heat to your sandwich ask them about the hot sauce in the back.

Gilman Grill has become my GOTO for lunch when I'm in Berkeley. It was recommended by the ladies at the quilting shop next door. My favorite would be a half sandwich BLT and the CHICKEN LIME SOUP! YUMMMY!

Server visited us three times: once to take the order, a second time to deliver the food, a third time to deliver the check AFTER she told us to go inside and request a check/pay the check at the register!! Never checked on us or offered us water or refills on coffee. The chilaquiles my two friends orders were cold scrambled eggs, with a rolled up tortilla (huh?). I got diarrhea within an hour of eating their biscuits with cold gravy and cold eggs--only thing I had eaten that day. Finally, the waitress brought us three separate checks with totals and no itemization, whatsoever. When we mentioned that we had asked, upon being seated, for one check, since I was paying, the woman walked away shaking her head like crazy and muttering to herself. It took a lot to get a specific accounting of what the total represented. Turns out it's the law that restaurants are required to give a specific itemization on the receipt. Weird business practice. A peek into the kitchen looked scary dirty and messy. Also, they add 3% if you use a credit card. Eat and pay at your own risk.
