Lived in Japan for 8 years in total and this restaurant is about as close to authentic your going to get in SD area.Best ramen.

I am proud that this restaurant is authentic and does not coddle to the Mexican or California fusion fad! I have been to Japan before and they do small plates. Respect their cuisine and style, don't force them to change. I don't understand why only the Mexicans complain about other people's cultures in cuisine. I am Mexican and there, I said it. This place is the best authentic Japanese in Chula Vista! Truly a gem especially since all this area has to offer is horrible cheap taco shops.

My favourite out of the 3 done by the same owner. There's a long wait outside best to go very early or later or be prepared to shop around while you wait. The signup sheet is at the front. Tip if you're going with another person, one should get extra pork and share it you can also ask for hot water to dilute the soup when you're almost done.

I do love their noodles here, but only really like a few of their broths... I wish they had more non seafood ramen options... they are just a little too fishy for me and the salt butter reminds me of maruchan. But They do have good happy hour specials from $3-7 so you can get a lot for a little $$$. Ramen portions are pretty big too

I love their salted butter ramen here! I'm not a big fan of other ramen broths, but This reminds me of chicken flavored maruchan (which is my fave)! It's really good with the added ingredients like bean sprouts, pork, etc. I enjoy how there's a good place in my hometown. Their other choices from the menu are great too :) I would recommend.

Pretty disappointed with the food I got here recently. Had ordered the champon ramen and boneless rib meat appetizer. The ramen was a handful of Ramen noodles, a handful of bean sprouts, handful of carrots and cabbage, and maybe a hint of pork, squid, 3 mini shrimp and fish cake slices. That's their version of ramen. The ribmeat appetizer was overcooked and tough. And did I mention the appetizer was almost 8 bucks and you got maybe half a rib worth of meat? Definitely not coming back here anytime soon. Oh but the coke from the soda fountain was good.

The food was not very tasty. It needed more flavor. This restaurant is divided into two restaurants. We went to Gunco Ramen which has a different menu from Kanpai which they are more geared in preparing sushi. Gunco Ramen's specialty is "Ramen". However, my daughters and I didn't ordered the Ramen dish as they did not have a vegan choice to pick from. The prices also vary depending on what you ordered, but in general the prices are high.
