unfortunately the tonkatsu i got was overcooked and the outside was a little burnt as well. the rice was a bit too wet for my tastes and i think that may also have been overcooked. the curry was tasty though.despite the shortcomings in the food, the two ladies who helped me at the counter were so friendly so i’ll give them five stars! ?

Called around 2pm on a Saturday. Man said in 10-15 minutes it would be ready. Got there exactly 15 minutes later and it was ready for pick up. No line to pick up food. Paid around $17 for katsu chicken curry. Woman at the front was really nice. Had to ask for a spoon but chopsticks and napkins were packed already. Curry came in a large bowl. Drove to Rockaway Beach. Curry was still hot. Rice still warm, but chicken was lukewarm by that point. Chicken was crispy but not really spiced or salty at all, a little bland. Had to eat it with the curry to get flavor on it but that is fine because the curry is a flavorbomb of umani. Not overly salty and just a slight kick. Will definitely be back, no super cheap but price is fair.

Same delicious food for hmmm maybe 20 years! I love this place and go back to order take outs from time to time. It's still fresh, wonderful and tasty!

Only pickup available now and call to place order. Expect 15-20mins wait and a line to pick up. Their curry is one of the best in the city

I came here with high expectations of their food, but their attitudes toward their customers ruined my first experience here. The chef who would pause his work in the kitchen and ask his customers not to use their phones would throw his customers out of the restaurant bc there is not enough space to chatter. The service here was quick and efficient, which is good because they understand that they are a small place and need to be efficient with their time. I would say that the person assisting us was kind and was welcome to answer any questions we had and also recommended what was good for any first-timers.

This place has been around forever! They have the BEST curry and tamago. It's a super small location so there may be a wait. I would recommend doing takeout.

Went in today for Tempura, Shrimp Tempura and Takoyaki The shrimp tempura had little too much batter with a smell of too much bleached flour. The Takoyaki was just too dark.

Good japanese home cooking. Recommend ordering the Japanese katsu curry, spicy bbq hamburger, beef tendon donburi

This place used to be my favorite curry place in SF area... Not anymore! Ordered tonkatsu curry and tanin donburi. The tonkatsu was thinner and smaller, most important... It's super dry!!! The curry was not fully mixed/ heated, it's in little lumps. The beef in the donburi is like beef jerky. I won't go back unless I see a series of real positive reviews.

Their chicken/curry dish was almost a religious experience. I saved some of the curry to eat again as leftovers. Highly recommend.

Been going there from time to time for past 18 years! Even with the pandemic price hike, they are still very reasonably priced! Miso soup for $1.50, tempura don $7.95. Still love their curry even it’s at the salty side. And the tamago sashimi is superb!

This take out restaurant has so many authentic Japanese dishes I've seen only in Japan; and rarely see in the bay. I was so excited to see Japanese sandwiches and hamburgers! I really can't wait to try the rest of the menu. All their items are decently priced. I will be back.

What a little treasure! Great customer service so nice the food is amazing with great prices. Only thing is ask for extra sauce because they don't give much. They might do that because it's so good! Wish I had jars of it! You will not be disappointed with this place.

Still horrible after all these years. Services is nonexistent. They don't welcome kids. Absolutely do not bring kids. Do not talk and do not ask for anything. They just want you to pay for their burnt curry, stale fish, and salty hot goo.

I have to say that I haven't had Tani's kitchen in almost a few years and I remember loving their Tonkotsu Curry back then. I raved about it to my Fiance and we decided to grab some this past weekend. This is a fairly small place with limited parking in front, so I do recommend parking near Nations and walking the distance if you want to try this place. Due to COVID, they are not letting anyone inside the shop, so you do order in front and wait until your order is ready. They will ask for the last four digits of your phone number to act as your order number. My Fiance and I both got their Tonkotsu Curry ($14.50 each) and I got a side of their Hamachi (2 pieces for $5-6). My total came out to be closer to $40-$45 I believe with tip. I have to say that the curry was a bit salty for both of our tastes. The Tonkotsu cutlet itself seemed a lot smaller than previous years. I ended up finishing my plate and had a good amount of Curry left, and my Fiance finished what he could, but got super thirsty afterwards. The Hamachi itself... this was ok. I was more afraid of the wasabi I saw they placed on top of the rice, so I did just eat the Hamachi itself. Not what I was expecting, but at least I got to try it. Overall, I think it's ok. This past visit didn't wow me as much as it did the last time I had it. I might have to try other things on their menu, or maybe try their curry another time and see if it tastes different.
