“THE BEST CUBAN FOOD I’VE EVER HAD!!My family and I have been coming here for years and the food, staff, service and atmosphere has been nothing but amazing! Staff is very friendly and welcoming once entering the restaurant. The food here is always flavorful, delicious and comforting. You’re first treated with complementary warm toasted and buttery bread. My family and I always order the “bistec empanizado” which is breaded steak. We also order the “pollo rostizado”which is roasted chicken. Both of those dishes come with rice, black beans, and nicely caramelized plantains. You will not regret coming here!!Parking: Can park on the street if there isn’t enough parking in front of the restaurant.“

Cuban Cultural Club Cuban • $$
247 E Pomona Blvd, Monterey Park - 6.2 miles

“We had the pleasure of attending a special recital by our friend and world renowned South American (Paraguayan) harpist and composer, Alfredo Ortiz. Today's event was located in a Cuban clubhouse of sorts, in a small, worn, older building located in Monterey Park, a city I actually associate with the large Asian community in Southern California. But ashamedly, that was my misconception. The Club Cultural Cubano (aka CCC) is a very intimate venue dedicated to the Cuban community here in greater Los Angeles. The interior is quite nice, with a large open floor that can be adapted for a variety of small, special events. They must do many events involving performances, as there was a small stage, and a baby grand set up. The stage was attractvely lit with twinkling mini lights. There is also a cantina located in the back. This particular recital they sold pastries and beverages, including wine and beer, and pastries provided by the famous Cuban bakery, Portos. I don't know if this is a common scenario, but it felt quite conducive to a friendly, ice breaking small event. The kitchen/cantina has a large refrigerator, beverage cooler, stove, oven, and fryer available.Parking is limited, mostly street parking. Other than the main thoroughfare it faces, the building is surrounded by a primarily middle class, residential neighborhood. And a word or two about today's artist: Alfredo is not to be missed. Cuban born, immigrated to Venezuela during the 1950's revolution, he is an amazing harpist and inspired teacher, who plays richly syncopated, addictive South American folk music. He is a very entertaining, informative, and a very warm personality who travels worldwide. For those interested in supporting Cuban art and culture, this seems to be a very active group. This kind of venue is perfect for recitals as there is no bad seat in the house, the acoustics were great, and the room was kept very comfortable, even for a quite warm summer day.“

Club Coco Bongo Downey- Las Palmas Supper Club Mexican • $$
8060 E Florence Ave, Downey

“My ex boyfriend lived across the street from this club. At night time I hear all the people piling out of it ! Always looked like a lot of fun. Here is a couple Las Palmas fun facts. Tina turner used to play here back in the day. It's known for its salsa and Cumbia nights. Every time I walk in this place it's closed unfortunately. We got there almost at nine to be informed that they will be opening shortly but Saturday night is a gay night... I know I'll see this place in action one day . Till then I'm gonna have to put my salsa fantasies on hold just for a little bit longer.“

3Vino's Bar • $$
201 N Citrus Ave, Covina

“First time going there, but so far it was really nice, don't know for a weekend since we went on a Wednesday for the free 1 hour salsa lesson, which i must say one of the best lessons i have gone to (and I've been going to several : oc salsa in costa mesa, oc dance in Anaheim, Murray dance studio in orange) and seriously i cannot believe this are free at 3 vinos! The instructor is awesome! He explains in such a nice slow clear way that you can get the moves fast! I was really impressed. After the salsa lesson (8-9) we stayed for the social dancing which was also great time for me and my friend, not crowded at all, decently dressed crowd (ladies and gentlemen) plenty of space to practice the moves you learned during the lesson. We didn't eat nor drink, my friend just got a shot of tequila and we also got a couple bottles of water and the service was fast and friendly.I do recommend this place for Wednesday nights, get there at 8 for the salsa lesson, so you can get to learn a couple moves to try after. We'll definitely try to go during a weekend since we really had a lot of fun and liked the place.Update May 2023: The place has moved to upstairs, when you enter there's a bar now called "Bodega bar and grill" and right ahead at the second floor is 3vs.Parking: The parking area is right in front of the paid parking.“
