I first started eating at this location about 40 years ago. My friend and I would stop by after surfing at UCSB a couple of times a week.Since The Habit chain was sold a few years ago to "Yum Yum" they have opened many more locations. My girlfriend and I have visited all the locations near us in North and South Carolina.This location is still owned by the originator and of course, on a recent visit back to Santa Barbara, I had to bring my GF to Habit #1

THE ORIGINAL. Certainly lives up to the graphics plastered on the walls of the locations that were born as a result of this one.JUST A SMALL WARNING: Unlike the aforementioned post-original Habit Burger Grill locations, this place has NO INDOORS. Normally, given the lovely Californian weather, this would not be a problem. Unfortunately, I happened to grace this location with my presence on one of the rainiest days that California has ever experienced. DANG. Consequently, the outside dining area was simply NOT an option. I had to take refuge in a nearby Wendy's in order to eat my Chicken Salad without getting it and myself SOAKED.That being said, if you visit this Habit on a SUNNY day, you can expect a pleasant Habiting experience.

I bought their beef hotdog and it was delicious.Lovely flavor and cooked to perfection, the bun was fresh and I love the choice of chillies you can help yourself to add to your meal.Service was great, fast and friendly.Their burgers looks great and if I wasn’t full, I would have tried one of the as well.Definitely check this place out if you are in the area and fancy a hotdog or a burger.Rob recommends: The hotdog

I don’t recommend this place at all. The food quality is ok. The place is small and feels very overcrowded. It doesn’t look clean at all . I have issues with the workers here. I don’t like being lied to and that is my main issue. The issue happened back in October of 2023. I had told the cashier I need to split the bill into two forms of payment. I was charged for the full amount on the first credit card I used and I immediately asked for a refund and to redo the transaction. The cashier was confused what to do and someone else stepped in. We discussed the issue for about a minute and it appeared he did not want to deal with the issue so he then allegedly told me the food was going to be free and he was just going to issue a refund. I insisted I wanted to pay but he ensured me to not worry about it. I was with a colleague of mine and he left a very generous tip of over 10$. We are now 2 months later and I never received that refund. I was clearly lied to and I did multiple inquiries on the habit listens and I never got a reply back from any manager. I went back to the store two weeks later and I spoke to the leader on duty. I was told by her that she was going to speak to manager and have manager reach out to me. I even reached out to corporate phone number and no reply either.
BLT, flavor was good, at least 1 more piece of bacon & thicker slices of tomato would have made it great. Love the tempura green beans.

I would love to give 5 stars, only that often times it's difficult to find parking and seating is limited. But I guess that's the price you pay for a good burger. I frequent the original location when I have a craving for a good burger and their ahi tuna sandwich. When they added the tempura battered green beans, they had me hooked. The employees are friendly and professional . The atmosphere is pretty basic, but I guess that's the allure of the place in a way. The other locations are more modern and well appointed. The original location hasn't changed. They have a pretty good menu aside from burgers and fries. If you want a good meal that won't break the bank, go to the Habit.
