Lunch was small but the food was good though it was $30 so expensive for a mere lunch.

I love eating here. Used to come at least once a week. Came tonight around 8:15pm, they close at 9. They were out of everything. Should have just shut down the restaurant. This is the third time this has happened to me. Don't even waste you time coming here after dark. Just close at 8...

Okay so I needed to go to the AAA club in Irvine, I wanted to get something to eat nearby. So I went to Cafe Rio, although I generally prefer to get my tacos at alebrijes off of Cubbon and main Street in Santa Ana. Like I always say the prices and quality of the food is the best... outside of Irvine. So I ordered the Thursday special which is shrimp tacos with beans and rice. The the flower tortillas were really well done and the shrimp was ample. Yes for the cilantro no for the chopped onions or cactus. They provided a mango salsa on the side. The black beans were as expected, but the rice was undercooked. I had to mix the rice with the black beans in order to soften up the rice. The shrimp was in a coconut flake coating and then deep fried. The coconut was on the sweet type so it was very tasty. If I had more self control I could have been just one of the two tacos and save the other one for dinner. That's how big each one was. Ok, so not to bad for Irvine but I'll stick with my tacos at alebrijes

I have to say this is the best staffed CafeRio in OC. Louis was kind and very helpful and offered to take my tray after i was finished eating. Did not feel rushed. Also the latino gentleman with the Rosary Tattoo was extremely polite. The tacos are great but the black beans tasted okay, as far as atmosphere it was typical Irvine crowd of College grads working and older professionals. If anyone is interested in polite and authentic CaferRio employees look no further. Shout out to Louis. and Rosary tattoo guy.

They need to update their Google hours- there is a sign on the door saying Monday through Thursday they close at 9pm, where as Google maps says 10. I really enjoy this place, but showing up at 8:40 and hearing that they’re closing already was confusing.

Good food, but a little pricey. More of a lunchtime atmosphere. Not much of an atmosphere. Good for a quick bite.

My first time ordering from Cafe Rio-The shrimp-taco was dry and too crispy & the chicken-Cassadia & beans-Brito was extremely salty and didn’t taste and looked like it was daily fresh… ?‍♀️

This establishment puts chipotle to shame. So much more variety and everything takes so fresh and good. They make their tortillas from scratch! They are constantly putting specials for their meat selection and I love that they toast the cheese on the burritos. A+. Keep up the good work!
