Another great name, for this place would be "Murder, She Wrote" Café. Think of it is the kind of cozy place you can tuck into delicious coffee, tea, sandwiches, salads, and quiche, while enjoying the murmur of nearby tables, surrounded indoors by books and outdoors by flowering trees. The noise level is low, inversely correlating with the average age demographic. Servers are friendly, generous and kind, if not exactly the fastest. Small interior means reservations can be helpful, particularly in poor weather. Easy parking in a small parking lot behind and on the street in front. Highly recommend if you're looking for a lovely, relaxed lunch. Great for after Descanso.

Cute little place that I'm glad we finally got to visit! I got the spinach salad and my friend got the curried chicken salad and we split the small sizes. Not sure why I never thought of curry added to mayonnaise in chicken salad before but it was delish! Then we got the cheesecake bar and peanut butter chocolate bar and split them. Both were yummy. Nice staff. Parking behind.

Penelope's is so cute and comfy, and I'm so glad I've discovered it! A friend brought me here for lunch, and it's a gem -- particularly the outdoor patio, which has so much cover from trees, umbrellas and awnings that it's likely pleasant even on a very hot day. The staff is friendly and helpful, including Penelope herself! Food is fresh, very tasty, and reasonably priced. They have just enough variety on the menu to please everyone. I'm looking forward to going back!

Where to start... This has been my third encounter with the old biddy they call Penelope (The owner BTW). We went to pick up an order today, as we were walking in, she was walking out. We said hello and he glared up and down at us, as we were not worthy to walk into her restaurant. Folks, it is not worth the food and price to be treated so poorly, I'm surprised she even has customers the way she treats people. I can list a ton of places that have kind service and great hospitality. The reason we have continued to enjoy meals here, is her staff. They work so hard and even they have the looks of "we know she is a B...." Second time we dealt with her, my husband called in an order for salads. Her staff always asks what kind of dressing, so when he said we would like the maple basil.. she rudely said "it already comes with it, did you want different!" He hung up and said she needs to not be around people and stay home. Needless to say.... He stopped ordering from her. I went a prior time on a lunch break, she left me on hold for 10 minutes.. I actually hung up and her staff member answered and apologized. Her staff is great.. but the owner Penelope is a horrid women. I have made it know to others in Our community and beyond. Shame on you to treat others with such disrespect.

My salad was pretty good, and my waitress was very nice. I felt like the tables were too close together, which was distracting because the next table was very boisterous. I'd do 3 3/4 stars if I had the option, but it's a sweet little place and I hope it sticks around.

This is a hidden gem! My friends and I have been coming here, once a week for years for breakfast and often for lunch. They are only open for breakfast and lunch. Great food, wonderful staff and Penelope, the owner, is always there for lunch. Make a reservation for lunch and sit outside under a beautiful tree and enjoy the ambiance and great food!

Went here with my kids. When you go in it is extremely quiet. Signs say please wait to be seated. It also says welcome we are open. We waited patiently for a few minutes. No one greeted us. People were just staring at us. Then we just walked all the way to the back since we saw employees just standing around talking. Then one of the workers asked if we were taking food to go. Why would we be taking food to go? We were waiting in the front. Then she said we had to sit outside because there were no seats inside. Mind you it was raining. Please please train your staff. They have to greet customers. It was incredibly unwelcoming.

This place is so cute and the food was very yummy. A lot of food for the price. I thought our waitress was very funny with a very dry sense of humor. I enjoyed her quite a bit. Parking was good. I would highly suggest it.

Went and had lunch today at Penelope's and was told that my server was Penelope herself! Anyway, I thought the food was delicious - had the Kelly's Chicken Chipotle sandwich with the spinach strawberry salad - all very yummy. Really loved the crunch of the sandwich which was served panini style. Given the combo I got, I also had the tomato basil soup but it was no bueno - it was too concentrated and super tangy. Otherwise, a good experience. I thought the service was good - some might say it's a little slow, but it was acceptable to me especially when I'm just chatting away with my friend and it was a full house. Glad to finally try out the place - very cute and quaint.
