“Bar Sawa is a total hidden gem—an intimate omakase adventure wrapped in speakeasy style. From the moment you enter the discreet entrance, it feels like you’ve stepped into a secret culinary world. The chef is a true artist: meticulous, passionate, and warm, guiding you through each course with care and storytelling that elevates the experience.
Every bite is exceptional—ultra-fresh fish, perfectly balanced flavors, and beautiful presentation that makes it almost too pretty to eat (but you will, and you’ll be glad you did). The service is attentive yet relaxed, striking the perfect tone for the cozy setting.
Theme nights add another layer of excitement—creative twists that keep things playful without sacrificing authenticity. It’s rare to find a spot that nails atmosphere, service, and world-class sushi in one go, but Bar Sawa delivers across the board. A must for anyone who wants something unforgettable.“

“Truly an unmatched dining experience for us. Everything is worth it. I wish I had remembered that we could bring our own sake/wine for a corkage fee, but the sake we had there was wonderful. It's amazing to see so much of the hard work that goes into the art of making delicious omakase up close, and the chefs make you feel welcome and special from the first moment.“

“Tranquil spot with various omakase options. Came here with my family for an early dinner and made a reservation online beforehand. We opted for the Sushi Bar Omakase for $109 which came with 8 courses (including dessert). A couple of courses had multiple pieces, and we left very full. The blue crab hand roll was my favorite part; it was huge, hot, and the sauce that accompanied it was delicious. The fish was super fresh and the pieces kept coming. It was fun to watch them being prepared right in front of us at the bar (there are table seats as well). We enjoyed our meal and I would recommend this for special occasions or a way to treat yourself.“

“Good Japanese foods , many varieties of dishes . The fish grilled sea bass is cooked just perfectly fine . The salad is kinda american Japanese fusion but still good . The carbonara noodle - I don’t really care (It doesn’t really fit with the rest of the dishes) - overall is a great place to enjoy Japanese foods“

“Not a big fan of sitting on the side of street where people walk by and you intake that fumes coming from all these traffic. Got to sit inside by the bar, the food here is okay, but a bit pricey for what it's worth. Been to many affordable to very expensive sushi places in the U.S. and in Asia, this place is more IG/social media friendly picturesque place than an actual sushi/sashimi place. Not much nigiri/sashimi choices. Not a big fan of places that sell pre-made canned alcohol with an extreme markup.“

“We went here for our wedding anniversary and we loved loved the whole experience! I’ve had many omakase before in LA, Toronto & Japan and this was top notch. I was obsessed with their pickled ginger as it appears to be house made. I would come back just for that! Just kidding but not really. We’ll definitely be back! I wish them continued success!“

“Okay I don’t even know where to start but my experience at Morihiro was amazing. It was actually my second time but it gets even better and better. Coming from Japan, it is SO HARD to find good sushi overseas. Sure there are so many Michelin sushi restaurants here in LA but Morihiro is not even comparable- first Shari ( sushi rice ) is ANOTHER LEVEL. Quality of Shari is so important to make good sushi but he actually spent 25years to look for specific rice - Rice here is not just a decoration but it plays important role for the sushi. And appetizers!!! He likes to mix both Japanese traditional dish and local ingredients. It was amazing. A lot of sushi restaurants don’t care about appetizers but they just care about golden flakes or caviar lol But his dish is so delicious and there is a meaning behind. Also service was top notch! They don’t even speak Japanese but they knew the details of regions or seasonal ingredients. Can you even imagine how hard would it be to learn every single name of fish or vegetable in different language? I have huge respect for all the chefs and servers. It was AMAZING. You will NOT regret it. I can guarantee as a Japanese foodie from Japan!!!!!!“

“The food was amazing. The sweet potato was something I never had in my whole life. I have been to 39 countries for work and have eaten so many foods and I have never tasted anything close to it. The aburi salmon was delicious as well. However the star of the show: Our server Nic. He was one of the best most down to earth servers I have ever had in my life. He was patient, recommended the best things on the menu including the sweet potato. And my glass of water was never empty. You would think going to a trendy restaurant that maybe there would be a stuck-up atmosphere. But no all the servers and waiters were extremely friendly. Although the sweet potato is not something I had before in my life, I think Nic was one of the best servers. I got. Although pricey it was worth any penny. We'll be back in a week.“

“Everything was perfect, fave drink was lychee martini and in the morning strawberry matcha. For dinner we loved the rib eye, ceviche, tuna tartar and chicken the most. The Caesar salad was unique and I really enjoyed it. Miso eggplant also great! We were so full and didn’t think we could eat any more but The sorbet at the end was delicious, super light and refreshing. Service was friendly, atmosphere very pretty.“

“I had an excellent experience at Sushi Gen! The service was amazing—the staff was attentive, friendly, and made the whole dining experience smooth and enjoyable. The food was absolutely delicious, with fresh, high-quality sushi that exceeded expectations. On top of that, the restaurant was very clean and well-kept, creating a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere.
Sushi Gen definitely lives up to its reputation, and I’ll be looking forward to coming back. Highly recommended for anyone who loves great sushi and great service!“

“Delicious food at a reasonable price. I ordered one of the options with multiple handrolls and chefs were attentive enough that they never stacked up, but I somehow always had one in front of me. I'd passed by it without trying it before as we were meeting up with family at another place, but I'm glad we made it back here.“

“The low reviews here are from charlatans and wimps; Q rips. If you want a peaceful, restorative, and exceptionally delicious omakase experience, look no further. It may not be the flashiest experience, but the preparation and quality of the meal is exceptional. Sensational!“

“We really enjoyed our dining experience at Kenbey. The sushi is fresh and you can tell the chef cares about each piece he serves. I’m giving it 4 stars instead of 5 because of 3 things. The first is that I didn’t like the sauce that came on the hirame and the sauce on the albacore with the slice of garlic. Second, we tried the Hokkaido uni, it was a very dark orange (so not the freshest - we should have gone with the Santa Barbara uni) and so bland and flavorless. Third, for the prices they could add some decoration.
I would still recommend trying Kenbey. The service was excellent and overall pretty good!“

“Sushi Zanmai has great sushi and other dishes. They also have hot dishes. The place is just so pretty and the seating is comfortable and inviting. Make a reservation as it will get crowded at night.
Everything is just so fresh and filled with flavor. The tuna is my personal favorite. But I also love their hot dishes. Their rice is great and I love rice so I have to have it.
Their menu is on a pad which I don't like, but they deal with it.
The prices are high, but such is the cost of great fish these days. They have great combination plates that the whole table will love.
As to the service, it is fantastic. the entire staff is welcoming and will help you with the menu if you need it. They are fast and super helpful.
You will have a relaxing and great time there. Have fun.“

“Haru is a hidden secret.... Premium quality sushi without the fuss of the popular "high-end" places. Follow their social media stories and you'll see how they break down beautiful, sourced cuts of fish themselves... Mouth watering and beautiful presentation.
We try to order directly when they can (rather than through apps) when we can in order to support them.“

“I am Korean and have been to many sushi, tempura, and omakase restaurants in Sapporo.
It's good here. It's good, but it's really crappy. It's no exaggeration to say that it's salt sushi. When Koreans go, please ask for a little less seasoning. Otherwise, you'll feel like you're eating from a soy sauce container.
And it's so, so, so cold. I'm not a neta, but I go to Michelin and pay $500, so I can't help but wonder why I'm shivering from the cold. And when I hold the nigiri, I don't know if it's a habit, but every time I hold it, I take a small amount of rice... a little bit from the nigiri. It feels a bit like an amateur. The fact that there were a lot of tsumami made was enough to give that feeling.
And the chef speaks a little Korean.
This business could get better if they just don't use Chrome Hearts chopsticks and show a little more consideration for their customers. The food was good, and except for the saltiness, the sushi and neta were good.“

“If you're looking for the best udon soup in town, look no further! This gem offers a delightful dining experience with its rich, flavorful udon soup that keeps you coming back for more. The teriyaki chicken is a standout, perfectly cooked and bursting with taste. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, enhanced by the charming backdrop of Japanese television, which adds to the authentic feel.
The service is exceptional—super sweet and polite staff made us feel right at home, attending to our needs with genuine care. It's rare to find a place where food, ambiance, and service come together so harmoniously. I absolutely love this place and can't recommend it enough!“

“I'm town for LA ComicCon and did my usual research to scope out what's around and amongst the many sushi places near LA Live downtown, the reviews drew me to a small, unassuming hole-in-the-wall place. It did not disappoint. I add my voice to those singing their praises. The place is small but the food is amazing. I was able to spend a few minutes chatting with the owners and they are wonderful people who you can immediately appreciate how much they are personally invested providing an amazing sushi meal and time permitting chat with you. Something we don't get enough these days. If you're into sushi and find yourself in downtown LA, this is a MUST visit location.“

“To be honest, the atmosphere is noisy, narrow, and not very good, perhaps because it is a well-run restaurant. However, the amount of sashimi served is quite large. Compared to other raw fish restaurants, there are fewer side dishes, but it is recommended if you like raw fish more.“

“We came here for our anniversary and had an absolutely perfect tonight! The staff was wonderful, very friendly, and the restaurant is new and beautiful. We got the Shabu Shabu and sushi combination and every single dish they brought was fantastic. We just got back from Japan a month ago and were missing it, and this entire experience was so authentically Japanese and the quality was absolutely five stars! Highly recommend and they have a ton of menu options for vegan, no fish, etc. The cocktails and dessert were great too! We will be back!“

“My wife and I love sushi so when we moved to the neighborhood we started trying out sushi spots to see which would become “ours”. After trying a handful of other places we came to Sushi HON and knew immediately that this was the one. The fish is extremely fresh, the rotating menu of rolls is diverse and consistently high quality, the prices are totally reasonable especially for this city and their garlic edamame is probably the best I’ve ever tasted, but what really sets this place apart is the service. The staff is friendly, attentive, and has basically treated us like family from the first time we walked through the door. They’re the best. Check them out!!“

“Great sushi place with high quality fish and great service. I would highly recommend the crispy rice with tuna and the Tuna Lemon roll. Fish was fresh and melted in mouth. The hand rolls and nigiri were also great, but I mainly struggled to enjoy certain cut rolls like the Moon Roll and Spicy Salmon roll. While they were still delicious, there was a little too much mayonnaise which made it hard to enjoy. However, other cut rolls, which are not as mayo dense, such as the Tuna Lemon roll, were incredible and flavorful. Overall, I would come back to try the sashimi and other hand rolls. But for the time being, other sushi places with similar price ranges provide equally as favorable rolls with less mayonnaise“

“Sushi Takeda is easily one of the best omakase experiences in downtown Los Angeles. Chef Takeda brings an incredible mix of precision, warmth, and traditional technique that makes every course feel special. The ingredients are unbelievably fresh, the pacing is perfect, and the flavors are clean, refined, and deeply memorable.
We also appreciated how balanced and approachable the menu is, with a nice mix of warm and hot dishes. The experience never feels intimidating and the food is beautifully prepared with absolute care. Chef Hide San is also incredibly friendly, humble and passionate about his craft which makes for a great experience from start to finish.
Located on the third floor of Weller Court in Little Tokyo, Sushi Takeda is a hidden gem that is perfect for an elegant edomae style lunch or dinner. We have no doubt a Michelin Star will soon follow!“
