SumiYA! We had lunch for the first time here. Everything was delicious and our favorite was the Takikomi rice upgrade that was well worth the $3. We can’t wait to come again. The skewers could have been a bit hotter, but were still quite delicious.

Ordered a simple meal and it's a pretty solid spot. Prices are slightly lower then the norm now a days so that's also a plus. The miso soup was excellent. For their skewers the chicken was the stand out while the pork and beef being fine.Took a few more minutes then most lunch spots but it's all made fresh so it's justifiable.

Ordered the bento and I like that it came with 4 steps; each step allowing for different options. Step 1: I opted for the bento deluxe which came with 4 types of skewers. Step 2: I chose a rice option. They have everything ranging from plain rice to rice with a little more fluff. Step 3: I picked my appetizer. Step 4: Salad with my choice of dressing. The skewers were premade and heated up but I felt they weren't hot enough; they were lukewarm and I would have enjoyed it more if they were heated to a slightly higher temperature. They were however, well marinated and tasty. This restaurant has a lot of veggie choices for the sides and appetizers which I appreciate since I'm trying to have a more balanced diet these days. My bento came with soup and pickled vegetables. Not a bad price for lunch. Staff were nice. Simple interior and looks like they are remodeling the wall. I'd come here again for a decent size lunch at an acceptable price.

I am a regular at their Santa Clara location. I was happy to see them open in Milpitas which is so much closer to my workplace. The new location is also not that busy. I tried their popular chicken izakaya bento box and the quality is very similar to their Santa Clara location. The only thing I did not like was that they give food in a to-go box even if you eat-in. This creates a lot of trash. Hopefully they will get more environmentally friendly soon. The also charge less in this location. The portions size is very generous and a good value for money, especially their lunch specials.

I like that you get a "bento box" based on items of your own choosing - definitely beats having standard/default items pre-selected for you...but part of me do wish that you get to pick individual skewers (vs. "pre-selected" sets). The skewers were good - definitely highlights Sumiya's strength. We were kind of confused by the interior decor (MDF boards on wall) though...not exactly what we had expected from a Japanese skewer restaurant. I do like the location since it's at the 99 Ranch plaza hub, but parking can definitely be a pain depending on the time and day of the week.If we're in the area, I definitely wouldn't mind giving it another try but we wouldn't make a special drive just to eat at this place.

They have a wide variety of skewers to choose from, including chicken, beef, pork, and vegetables. The skewers are all grilled to perfection and have a delicious smoky flavor.Price is reasonable :)

"Grilled skewer bento" is what made me want to try out this place. Various combos of skewers come with a choice of appetizer (I chose fried chicken), salad with choice of dressing (in my case, Miso) and rice options (my plain rice did come with an okra and pickled eggplant) and everything is counter service. If you want miso soup, it is a $1.50 add on. Limited seating but at 11:45, it was easy to get a table for 4. Everything was fresh and tasty but the rice is mushy and was my least favorite part of the meal.Parking: Parking lot but can get crowded.

First time to visit this restaurant . I love Japanese skewers but i never heard it could be ordered as bento . We arrived the restaurant kind of early and there no one around . Customer just followed the steps 1/2/3 to ordered different combination we liked . I picked itemC which included porkBelly ,meatBall and wings . Noticed all of the skewers were not preGrilled , good !The bento presentation was pretty good and The skewers were grilled well , especially the wings that I love the most . It came as salad , fresh but her rice was little too soft . One thing I noticed was that the floor / table of the restaurant was felt like "sticky". I believe it was not because of kitchen grease but it made us felt uncomfortable. The restroom was so clean by the way Will revisit there again for different items

Found a small piece of metal wire in my udon, pulled it out of my mouth. Almost swallowed it thinking it was part of the seaweed. They comped one udon, but my partner was having an udon as well, why would we feel safe finishing the other one?Udon was tasty up until that moment.

simple easy ordering system. Picked the deluxe bento, kids love the beef skewer. I like the chicken karaage, chicken meatball and the pickled vege! Good portion.

I usually ordered take-out through Yelp. The foods were great with generous portion. The bento box was well packed. The foods were ready early, so there was no delay when I went to pick up. This is my go-to Japanese place in Milpitas area.
