Szabo Vineyards | Tasting Room Wine Bar • $$
316 Broad St, Nevada City

“Spent a lovely afternoon tasting wine here over the weekend! Kayla was so friendly and shared fun stories about the decor, winemaker, and the wines. There was a good variety of reds, and all the wines were so reasonably priced for the quality. Can't wait to go back next time we're in town!“

“Great little winery that we’ve been to a few times. This review is based on a wine I bought long ago, a 2007 late harvest Zinfandel which we just enjoyed as a celebratory wine and it was incredible. Only regret is I only had one bottle to share. If offered again would buy and let sit for a few and enjoy with those that deserve it.“

“Stumbled upon the winery with my girlfriend after seeing some road signs following a Yuba River hike.Such a charming property and proprietor. Want to impress your girlfriend (especially if she likes Italian wines)? Take her here for the tasting. Buy a case while you’re at it! I did.“

Nevada County Wine Guild Winery •

“I Love the wines from this winery! I recently had reactions to other red wines that were non-organic. I was bummed that I wouldn't be able to enjoy red wine anymore b/c of an allergy. I tried Orleans Hill 2012 Organic Syrah and Loved it! It's delicious, well balanced, nice bouquet and...no allergic reaction! So, for those of you out there who get allergic reactions to non-organic wines try Orleans hill, it's really great!“

Mountain Ranch Winery Winery •

“Top winery in the Sierra Nevada Foothills. You just can't beat Bob and Lisa's wines. At the tasting room you get to experience the best of California - the great wines, incredible views, and friendly people. This winery also sells boutique hand crafted pottery (made by Lisa) and often has live music on weekends.“

“Kid Friendly (I have a 16 month old). There was Connect Four and a Big Jenga. Lots of grass areas where you can keep your children separate from those wishing to just enjoy their wine and the view. There are quite some big hillside drops so obviously just keep an eye on your kiddos, like you should be anyways. The gentleman pouring our tastings (Matt?) was very friendly and knowledgeable about the wines. The Chardonnay and Cab Franc was my fav. Such a beautiful view high on the hill side WOW.“

Avanguardia Wines Tasting Room Winery •
163 Mill St, Grass Valley

“We stopped by today and had a wonderful time. We used to live in wine country in Washington state and would go out tasting pretty much every Saturday. The things we always looked for were good wine, knowledgeable staff, fair prices and a tasting room policy that made sense. Our experience at Avanguardia was just like that. One of the owners helped us and took us through their wines. The tasting fee was a very reasonable $10, the pours were a decent size so one could take more than a single sip, the wines were delicious and very reasonably priced. We straight out loved this little tasting room. Next time we're in the area, we'll be back for sure!“

Sierra Starr Vineyard & Winery Winery • $$
124 W Main St, Grass Valley

“Had a lovely wine tasting at Sierra Starr, the experience was quite fun and was everything we would want from a tasting. The location is in the heart of downtown Grass Valley and the storefront is very welcoming. The shop has a wonderfully ornate carved wooden door, and the interior has a rustic brick and wood vibe. There is not a lot of seating inside, but there were only a few people there when we stopped in, so it was quite and uncrowded. The woman working was very nice; she greeted us promptly and we picked a seat. She offered us menus and walked us through what wines they had available. She was very attentive and checked in regularly, offering suggestions or answering questions we had.We tried a selection of their wines, all of which were enjoyable. Ended up leaving with a couple of bottles, and then were able to wander downtown and check out the shops. Ultimately, even I you only vaguely like wine, Sierra Starr likely has at least one wine you would enjoy!“
