This is the best banh mi bread around. My mother is a Vietnamese war refugee who landed in the Midwest during the late 1970's. For over 40 years, she had not tasted traditional banh mi bread. My parents fortunately relocated to the Bay Area after my sister and I established careers here. After I discovered Bui Phong, I knew I had to share this bread with my mom. Now, whenever I have a chance, I pick up baguettes and/or rolls for my mom so she can make banh mi and have it on the side of her curry at home. I can see her light up whenever I bring her this bread, and it warms my heart to be able to bring an authentic taste of Vietnam back into her life. Keep up the great work, Bui Phong Bakery!

Look, it’s a literal hole in the wall (window service only) where the menu only has a handful of things. Don’t expect much for the atmosphere. But DAMN the butter croissant is one of the best things I’ve put in my mouth.

Went in this early morning to get some bread. Saw the dude working the place drop some bread on the floor, then pick it back up to put on the tray for sale. Dude did it right in-front of me with no shame, and went on to try and sell it like normal. I loved getting bread from this place since I was a kid but this is extremely unhygienic, and makes me only wonder what other health violations are going on.

Good bolillos and croissants. Went on Christmas Eve and they were efficient. Best to bring cash when they have long lines on Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve. The bolillos were about 60 cents each.

An absolute gem! Got the chocolate and hot links croissants for breakfast and it was so filling! The croissants are a hefty size and can be a whole meal. A wonderful affordable tree or meal in the area. The goods are sold at the door with a large line, clearly a staple for all.

Excellent place to pick up fresh breads! Just be prepared for a long wait outside that sometimes wraps around the corner.

Our Oakland flight was delayed. Got there at 5:30am and the smell of baked bread and croissants were amazing. The uncles working there are cheerful and welcoming. Love seeing the younger men alongside them working and protecting the business. Best croissants-huge and buttery. If you're there early and lucky enough, you can get the ham and cheese, chocolate etc. Bread is bomb. Perfect for making banh mi. Love and support!

This place is surprisingly basic but has excellent croissants! As you can see from the menu, they only sell a few items but do them well. The croissants are dense and huge, at least an adult face size and the flavor is just as good as Costco ones. We were here early Sunday and there was a line. The location is a bit sketchy but the service was fast so it was fine.

Best croissants in the East Bay, fresh everyday they are open, friendly family run business, get there early for the chocolate filled croissants.

I can tell you ! This is the best bread in the Bay Area so far , it reminds me about French bread , I'm just disappointed because they only take cash . No card .

Brings me back to my childhood visiting mom in Oakland. The brioche is fire!

All I ask is that if you try it and you love it as much as me, just leave me a couple croissants ok? I mean maybe they're better in France but France is FAR and way more expensive.
