Good Food with a Disappointing ExperiencePomella food was good but the troubling part was a total and complete ignorance on quality of the way it was delivered. I ordered Hummus Plate with Falafel and some other side stuff. When the order arrived, I wondered if they have forgotten the Main Dish (Hummus Plate), but once I opened the side-dish square paper boxes then I realized here it is. What a Disappointment in a Box. Essentially they shoved in main dish in a side box container. It was difficult to even eat. Unbelievable that this restaurant can not find some "Normal" entree take out boxes out of which customer can enjoy eating. It is even more important when the main ingredient is Hummus which needs to be spread out in a flat take-out container for a great presentation and eating convenience. Also hummus portion was small like a side dish and not as a $20 main dish and missing ingredients like pine nuts and parsley as they showed up on the Uber-Eats menu. Ignorance of this Restaurant has converted a potential 5-Star review based on their food to a 2-Star disappointment. Hope they read it and use some very basic common-sense next time.

Food is bland. Falafel was mushy and not dressed with the proper toppings. Poor imitation of middle eastern/Arab staples. They charge extra for sauce which the food desperately needs.

Finally made it to Pomella, a restaurant that's been on my wishlist for a while. Tried the Lamb Wrap—an amazing combo of house-made Laffa flatbread, hummus, cabbage salad, Shirazi salad, and your choice of protein, topped with tahini and green lemon sauce (not spicy). It was worth the wait! Conveniently located near a hospital, which was perfect for me after a routine check-up—I just walked a block over after my lab work. Plus, there's a public parking lot behind the restaurant, making it even more convenient for pick up. Waited around 15 minutes for my food, but it was definitely worth it.

I returned recently to Pomella at the end of Piedmont avenue in Oakland. In the mood for tagine, I ordered the chicken plate which was served piping hot in a giant bowl of couscous with chunks of carrot added to the mix. Alongside came a mini dish of picante garlicky chermoula sauce. The chicken was tender with just the right amount of seasoning. If I'd eaten this at home, I would have added a drizzle of olive oil & lemon juice to complete it. And yet and yet, it was absolutely delicious. Add-ons like tzatziki or composed salads are also recommended. There's an outdoor dining patio as well as plenty of seating inside. I love the pop of orange color splashed throughout the eatery. The dangling fairy lights and plants give the interior a sweet vibe. I loved the added touch of reflective Middle Eastern music playing at a reasonable level, and how it expressed the culture of the food’s origins, rather than random music not curated to the environment. Do drop in for a visit and a taste of delicious California Israeli cuisine soon!

very disappointing lunch today, I ordered their lamb Shawarma wrap priced at $19 approximately, they were literally only three or four small pieces of lamb in this wrap which was 90% shredded lettuce. I would not go back again to this restaurant. when they were at their previous location the food and the service was much higher quality. Over the years and probably in there six or seven times this will probably be the last

From the friendly greeting as soon as we entered, to the halva for desert, we had a great experience at Pomella. We ordered many dishes and share plates, so everyone could taste each dish. Each menu item had its own wonderful flavor. The eggplant was a particular standout - and the chicken added to our hummus. Each member of our family has different dietary restrictions and tolerance for heat. We loved that everyone could modify things and have exactly what they wanted - for the savory dishes. Halvah is the only dairy-free/vegan desert and it was great. There are indoor and outdoor seating areas. This is an order at the counter and bus your own table kind of place, though the staff was ever present and helpful. We will be back.
