Running errands. Planned 2 hours. 75% of this time was in the checkout line. No other errands could be done. Poor cashiers! They must get so many annoyed customers. Stop understaffing this store! Realized when I got to the car that I forgot the whiskey I came for because you aren't allowed to put it in your cart but have to ask for it from the cashier. Which is either good or very sad because this checkout line made me need a drink.

Horrible horrible. Store hours says 2 am but I arrived a hour early and it's not even open. Also it's hella dirty everywhere.

Takes 15 minutes to get anything locked, which half the store is, wasted an hour, terrible

You must ask to use the rest room, although the pharmacy is reasonably efficient and they do have fresh fruit cups of mixed berries etc.

To the corporate manager reading this review: the team at the store is amazing. They work so hard, they are so friendly, and they are a pleasure. Thank you to all the hard-working employees. That's about the only good thing I can say about about this store. Safeway prices can be outrageous. I went in there to pick up an over-the-counter medicine, and it was 2.5 times more expensive than target. Because it's small, they're all is out of things, especially sales things. And, they carry far less variety than some of the larger stores. Waiting for a sandwich can take forever... Not because the people in the deli aren't working as fast as they can. There just aren't a lot of them. No matter what I do, I can't get their digital coupons to sync with my Safeway account. I've tried calling their online support, working with the customers in the store, but if I clip even a single digital coupon, I know that I am going to need to wait at a register for help. It won't just work. and regular prices are so high, digital coupons are the best reason to come into the store. Finally, this is not the store's fault, but I have never had more unresponsive online customer service. Half the time, my suggestions aren't even understood, and they never seemed to be passed on to the store.

If you go into this Safeway be careful of a little angry mean woman who has major aggression problems directed towards women and their children. This woman is a savage and should really get some therapy. I wouldn't recommend going in here if you are going through something and don't want to be bothered because this woman will try to ruin your day like she did to my daughter and grandson. I could not believe my eyes but luckily I know she is just projecting and really needs a hug. Just a warning for anyone sensitive this place is not. She really needs a hug. Someone hug her now you know exactly who I'm talking about. Bless her mean heart.

I used to love this store but in the past few months there are major problems. (1) prices are missing - BEWARE - if there is no price don't select it - my bag of lemons cost me $5 per lemon! (2) LOTS of items have no prices posted. (3) MARKED PRICES are not honored when you check out! I am now on a fixed income and buy frozen dinners that must be under $5.00. I select them carefully. When I get to the checkout, they cost over $6.00. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE. When I complained the first time the clerk said I must be wrong. I thought it was just mistakes, but now I'm concerned that Safeway is sneaking more money out of customers hoping they won't notice? I've had it with this Safeway. I'm going to a different one and hope they act better (I'll try the one on Shattuck in Berkeley)

Lost one of my AirPods in the gutter under one of the aisles. I asked an employee named Hanane for help, and she was so creative and found a long stick somewhere in the store which I used to retrieve the AirPods. Literally saved me hundreds of dollars. I can't thank you enough that was so nice

I like this Safeway. It's safer parking wise than most others in Oakland and is always well kept. I can't help but point out when I receive noticeably good customer service and today Salima did just that. Life can get hectic, so coming across an individual who is super kind and helpful is bigger than it seems. Thanks for the help and being super kind, Salima!

My experiences at the Safeway in Oakland have been less than satisfactory. While the convenience of the location is a plus, there are several aspects that have consistently disappointed me during my visits. The store's layout often feels chaotic and unorganized, making it difficult to find items I'm looking for. Navigating through the aisles can be frustrating, and it's not uncommon to spend more time than necessary searching for products. The lack of clear signage only adds to the confusion. It's incredibly frustrating to visit Safeway only to find that the items I need are consistently out of stock. Basic essentials and popular products seem to be missing on a regular basis, which requires me to either visit another store or compromise on my shopping list. This inconsistency is a major drawback.I've encountered subpar customer service during my visits. The staff often appear disinterested and unhelpful. Finding assistance can be a challenge, and when I do manage to get help, the responses are often lackluster. It's disappointing to feel like your questions or concerns aren't valued

A cashier was ringing up my purchases without the tagged discounts, I pointed the problem out and he claimed the items weren't on sale. A manager eventually appeared, I followed him to the area the products were at and showed him the discounts. He told me the prices were for a sale beginning the following day. I explained that was illegal. He returned to the cashier and angrily rang up the discounts.I received no apologies only nasty looks. This is no way to run a store. I wonder what else they're up to at this location. There are many other stores nearby, the Safeway at 51st & Broadway, which generally is open two hours later, a Trader Joe's, two Whole Foods. There is no reason to patronize the College Avenue Safeway.

Emailed their customer service. Still haven't heard anything about them fixing their wifi. I still avoid this location at all cost

I'm so mad at how terrible this place is. Car got broken into. The security guard's answer was "well I was on lunch. This happens almost every day" Awful

I can't seem to enjoy making the trek here for a Safeway run. Ever since they've replaced the old & dingy Safeway from back in the day, this spankin' modern & brand-new location is a great addition to this part of Oakland's Claremont neighborhood. Aesthetics in such an epically diverse community makes it a great place to get your grocery shoppin' on!Their rooftop parking is what gets me every time I come here, as having a place to park, and to get to walk the neighborhood is super easy at it can get! Weekends can be a pain to snag a spot up in the rooftop lot, however, don't let the craziness deter you from stopping here! This area is definitely a walkable neighborhood, and a one-stop shop for all your retail / service needs! I may sound biased, but getting here is such a smooth-sailing process for me - I can get groceries (check out their amazing clearance section in the back by the restrooms and in one of the end freezers), I can do my banking here at the credit union, get amazing coffee to wake me up at Philz, get fresh pressed juices, pick up some fresh flowers/plants at the shop across the street from Safeway, and so many other things that you can think of about this amazing store! Highly recommended for those wanting to check out a different Safeway from the neigboring 'burbs along the greater East Bay region! I don't know about you, but this particular Safeway gives me that Pacific Northwest neighborhood feels!
