Don't have the money or time to go to a Pub in Belgium? Drop by the Trappist in Oakland and you'll be surprised to see a pub that feels like you are in Belgium. It is housed in a beautiful old Victorian. Besides the bar in the front, there's a room in the back where you can drink with your own pod or you can eat and drink in the beer garden behind the building. They rotate 19 different draft beers. They have a variety of bottled beers, too. If you like Belgium beers, I would imagine that you'll find something you like there. Even if you don't like beer, there are choices like hard cider, hard kombucha, and wines. The bartender can probably find you something even if you aren't a beer lover like me. There's lots to see - - I had a great time running around and taking pictures of artifacts. They have created a sense of being in an nice old pub in Western Europe. My partner enjoyed a sour beer while I snapped pictures and sipped hard kombucha.

Not a purest in there type of beer so the bartender literally scoffed at me and attended someone else! Really!? What a snob!

Stopped in for lunch based on the Yelp reviews and it did not disappoint. Schnitzel sandwich was big and delicious. The beer on tap isn't a huge list but the hef beer was great. Nice outdoor seating made for a great afternoon.

Had drinks here on a Saturday evening-awesome experience! Indoor seating at the bar or at tables and benches inside-also there's a back patio that looked great. We sat at one of little counters by the window. Sign outside requires masks when you walk in/while ordering-which was cool! Hand sanitizers were available near every table as well. We ordered to of the gin based drinks on their menu-can't remember the name-but they were excellent-sort of a violet-purple color-very interesting watching the bartender make them. What makes this bar cool is the old school architecture-lots of dark woods, tile floors, super high ceilings. Definitely want to go back anytime I get to Oakland. Close walk from Jack London Square on our way back to the Hampton Inn in Chinatown.

Visited Oakland for the first time in years last weekend so I researched many bars and restaurants within walking distance of our hotel. So glad we stopped at The Trappist! Such an old school building-lots of dark wood, beautiful old bar setup, tile floors, high ceilings and what looked like wooden church pew benches--a very neat place to have a great cocktail and conversation. We had seats at a window counter and enjoyed gin based cocktails from their list. Probably should have tried one of their famous beers--next time! Love the atmosphere, the seating and location.

Only came for drinks (no food) with some friends. Got a couple cocktails - well made, with the bartender's homemade "Hellfire Tincture" - a habanero-infused rum. Friends got some spectacular beer. Great ambiance, friendly employees.

My friend and I walked in. A couple of patrons at the bar turned to look at me (The black guy) with not so friendly stares. The bar tender barely acknowledged either of us but provided my friend (The white guy) a menu, ignoring me. This was Thursday, July 15th around 8:30 pm. Needless to say, we left. No longer interested in this place. Why are people still this way after the year we’ve all just been through?? It’s just amazing.

Visited last weekend and was surprised to find this spot tucked away in Old Oakland. Outdoor space only at the moment per covid, but there is a fair amount of benches available - some closer to the shade and another area directly in the sun.Currently their standard food items are unavailable so they has a pop up of food which was just two chili options / meat and vegetarian. It was actually quite tasty but I was a little disappointed that their food wasn't available (though understandable). There's a great selection of beers and our server was very knowledgeable on the different types. They have a good variety of sours, which is always a good sign to me! I also had no idea the history behind Trappist breweries, so if you didn't either I'd recommend looking into it! It's super interesting (I won't spoil it for you ).We really liked this little spot and it wasn't very busy on a Sunday afternoon so you're bound to get a spot. A nice beer garden to go to if you don't want to cram to find a space and actually want to socially distance.

My husband LOVED the Belgium beers here. Pound 4 Pound burgers was here, but ran out of most of their burgers at around 6pm which was a bummer. Still, the beers were lovely and I had a sour called Petrus Sour Passionfruit which was freaking amazing! The outdoor seating area is super pretty with lights and creeping foliage with little white flowers. This was a great find and we will definitely be back.

The Trappist is one of the best things about Oakland. I remember when it was just a tiny front bar, before they expanded, and I really liked the vibe and the selection. Overtime, as they expand it, it just kept getting better and better. It took them a few years to really nail down the food, but right now it's definitely in a good place.
