Tldr; great food, great experience. Highly recommended. We were there for the spring '24 menu and chose to get the sommelier pairing with it.The paired wines brought out the flavors in each of the dishes in unexpected ways (I'm not very familiar with wine but with how well this was done it's impossible to miss). The biggest change was the Moscato with the lemon olive oil dessert. The cake was understated... until I took a sip of the Moscato and all the flavors popped (which surprisingly is not technically dessert wine but worked really well).I got the Porterhouse, not the fish option, so I can tell you the steak was delicious, but can't speak to the fish. The biggest surprise of the night was the Blue Crab Agnolloti. I could eat a bucket of those. You can see the presentation was great (for all the dishes not just the one in the pics).Look, this is a great meal and the price will reflect that, but it was worth every penny. I've talked about the food already and hopefully got across that it was very good... but somehow the atmosphere of the place and the service were at least as good if not better. The wine cellar in the basement is where you start the night and it really sets the tone. Amazing wine options and a good whiskey selection (which is more my style) as well as some tasty charcuterie. The servers are professional, very knowledgeable, and pleasant. We even got to go back into the kitchen to meet the food wizards and get a peak behind the scenes. If you can swing the bill, I highly recommend it.

Second time we spend our anniversary here. Think months ahead to get a table, for good reason.

Came for a celebration dinner, and it was decent. We had a five course dinner. The Amuse Bouche had an interesting collection of five items, including beef tartar, and salmon mousse. Flavor was quite good, but the tortilla chip was stale.First course was bacon wrapped prawns. Really good prawn, but I wasn’t a fan of the bacon wrap, as bacon trumped out the shrimp flavor. The juice was quite good, I assumed it was cooked with shrimp oil. The sauce also had crunch pieces and a slightly overwhelming (I assume) garlic flavor and I wasn’t too big of a fan.Second course was lamb/goat raviolo. It was decent, nothing too much to mention there.Main course I got the filet mignon. Steak was cooked very well, and nicely seasoned. However I’m not too big of a fan of the carrot paste, felt a bit like baby food. Side veggies mushroom and zucchini were a little bit on the oily side.Desert was olive oiled cake. It was alright, I wish the filling in the middle would be different than on the top.Overall, it was a good experience, decent flavor, especially considering the price point. The waitstaff were very attentive. The downstairs wine cellar was slightly underwhelming, as it just felt like a basement with wine stored on the shelf. And the intermission was new to me. We had a break for a good while before the main course, and I’d only assume it’s because the kitchen couldn’t keep up with preparing the main all at the same time.

The Hobbit is an amazing experience! I love what the new owner has done with the decor. It's updated and clean. Enjoyed going downstairs to the wine cellar and what they've done down there... Absolutely beautiful, we go every year for our birthdays. It's magical and special. They've still kept “the hobbit“ theming, but it's very subtle. The food is incredible as always, and the service is beyond expectation. The owner himself came over and spoke to us several times. The whole evening was spectacular.

Reopened post renovations (2023). Open Wednesday through Sunday from 7:00 to 11:00 p.m. Reservations can be made on Open Table or by calling the restaurant directly. This is a six course prix fix menu.***The hobbit as defined by Webster: a member of an imaginary race similar to humans, of small size and with hairy feet, in stories by J. R. R. Tolkien. The Hobbit restaurant is an elegant mansion sporting exceptional service. All seven gourmet courses were crafted by hand. Each bite imparted the sensation of us being worthy of Ambrosia and living atop Mount Olympus. Thanks to all the staff at the hobbit, to the chef and to our guests for an evening that will be pleasantly remembered for many years. Glad we saved up for the celebration.

I enjoyed having dinner at The Hobbit. 4 hours is a little long though for a dinner for 2 but perfect for a larger group. The food was delicious and the staff and ambiance was fantastic. I highly recommend it for a special occasion.

What a delight to dine at a restaurant with Michelin aspirations without trekking to LA or suffering the puffery of the Newport crowd. The food is very good, the service earnest and attentive, the wine delightful and careful to avoid obvious labels. Truly a local spot to be proud of and support.
