Their storefront has closed, but they're still open. They mostly bake for stores and events, but you can put in special orders and pick them up directly from their bakery. Their cakes, especially their tortes, are excellent and highly recommended. Visit their site to see what type of cakes are available.

Well, we used to order cakes and pies from them when they were in Palo Alto on California Ave. Since they moved their location ( I think it may just be a commercial kitchen) to Menlo Park, I have not ordered from them since I live kind of far away. I always take a Princess Cake to my friend's Lunar New Year dinner every year but I haven't done so since they moved. I was really craving it and my parents really love their Pecan Pie (9" and reasonably priced), so I placed an order for 1 princess cake and 1 pecan pie. I really didn't want to drive over there so I asked them to deliver them and they did for a small fee. Everyone at the Lunar New Year dinner enjoyed the Princess cake (so good still!) and my parents devoured the Pecan pie. They really do have the best Pecan pie around here. A lot of healthy pecans, not too runny and not too sweet. Thank you, Palo Alto Baking Company!!

No words seriously!!! Ordered a custom cake for my husband's birthday and it went as seamless as possible. The process of ordering and picking it up went exceptionally as planned but the thing my friends rave about is the actual cake!! Cant describe it in words, that good!!

My chicken pesto sandwich was delicious, I loved the coffee, and admired all the delicious looking cakes (plus, gotta support local businesses!)....but customer service is lacking. The young lady who was cashier was super nice and helpful, but our "waitress" slammed our dishes down at the table because we weren't 100% sure she was carrying our order and, hence, made her wait too long. Needs better service.

They were so excellent. So sad they closed.

Average nice staff members, the prices aren't too bad, and decent but tasty sandwiches, alongside their great baked goods. I especially like their TRADITIONAL RASPBERRY LINZER COOKIES. Overall a pretty good cafe.

They have closed their location but still taking orders to be picked up a commerical location in Menlo Park. They have the best fluffy strawberry & cream chiffon cake!

They recently moved close by to Menlo Park. Website and phone number is still the same. 650-321-3234. I just ordered a birthday cake over the phone, and they delivered it exactly as planned to Palo Alto for small delivery charge. Delicious Tiramisu cake. Looks spectacular with their signature chocolate and berry flowers and leaves. New touch: birthday message was on a marzipan label made to look like paper.

Service was good but food was ok. Lemon bars were really firm and heavy on the gelatin. Tasted very processed. The selection of baked goods did not look incredibly appealing. Expected a lot more from such a large bakery

Palo Alto Baking Company is my favorite place for breakfast on California Avenue. I know there's lots of fancier (and WAY more expensive) places, but this is my go-to place, mainly because of their flaky, moist and heavenly Quiche Lorraine. I've been elsewhere, but no place around here has topped this. I also love their coffee. It's the only place I've where I can get vanilla- or hazelnut-flavored coffee without those cloying syrups, but instead made with flavored beans. And my other go-to treat at Palo Alto Baking Company? The cream puffs. Sadly, even my beloved Douche France now makes cream puffs with whipped cream instead of custard. That's just wrong. My husband is also a quiche fan, and his favorite pastry is the cinnamon twist. It is pretty darn good. As for the service -- We're talking about an order-at-the-counter place, so service isn't a huge deal. I agree that it's sometimes been lackluster, but on my last two visits the service was cheerful, prompt and efficient. So maybe they heard you, Yelp-ers.

Made a thinking that this would be a good option for a quick snack. The staff seem tired and are pretty transparent about not liking their job, to the point where customers seemingly bother them when asking questions. I'm pregnant and this can't have undercooked food (listeria and toxoplasmosis) and no deli meat. I also am from Norway and am not familiar with what all the different foods are. I was so d*** to ask-and was treated as I was just that. The lady behind the register assented me and looked at me as to make a point of the fact that I didn't know how they're breakfasts were served, how the eggs were cooked etc. I paid and let her know that it would probably be a good idea for her going forward, to leave the sarcasm at home and stop replying as if her customers were idiots. I will not come back.

Rosa is the best! She helped me out in a pinch for a birthday, was very professional and kind--I'm forever grateful. The carrot cake was AMAZING and was a huge hit at the party. Thanks again, Rosa!! -Lindsay (10/16/18)

Good place to grab a quick breakfast. Service was nice, food was fine, needed to wait a little bit though. Be aware that sandwich sizes are quite big!

Second time I have made the mistake of coming here. Surly employees eager to not be of service and one of the worst egg salad sandwiches I've had. Their pastries look good but the sourdough bread on my sandwich was very dry, the egg salad basically tasteless. Eaten out of desperation. No pickles available. Just way below expectations for California Avenue. Also if you're business hours are until 5p the full menu should be available. They're not the only offenders on this street, in fact I came here out of desperation as another, better cafe had stopped serving anything except pastries and a 3rd was closed. At 4:30.

One of my favorite breakfast spots on Cal Ave. Reasonable prices and quick service. The coffee is good and the bagels are passable. Feels down-to-earth and approachable, no-frills.
