Gem of a deli run by old ladies in what feels like their home kitchen. They were so welcoming and everything so genuine and heartfelt it felt like wandering off the farm into your aunt's house.

This is my favorite deli!!! I found them getting music lessons across the lot and so glad I did. The sandwiches are delicious and the best part is that the ladies that work there are so nice and make me feel like I am at home with all of my aunts, cousins & Noni who have since passed on. Just gives me the feeling of my childhood in there. Love it!

The fam and I were feeling up to having sandwiches for lunch and being new to Redding, I wasn’t sure what was around so I did a quick google search and noticed Don’s sandwich shop and deli and am I glad I looked it up!! I ordered four sandwiches, the Addi aka the Reuben, fried pastrami with turkey, turkey sandwich with sourdough and avocado and the Cali was the last sandwich. I can tell you that the Reuben I ordered was fantastic. It was very flavorful and savory. They slow cook the meat in the crockpot for the Reuben. We also ordered some potato and macaroni salad to try. I’m extremely impressed with their food and the homey vibe this place produces. There’s definitely a level of love in their food. The great thing is it’s right around the corner from us so we’ll definitely be back. If you’re in the mood for sandwiches then look no further, Don’s Sandwich Shop & Deli has you covered. Happy eating fam!

I love this place. I'm infuriated by the review by the LA elitist and his over the top bread proclivities. Perhaps opt for a Jewish deli if you're limited as to what you can eat, rather than assume that a local sandwich shop/deli MUST be Kosher. The truth is that this is a solid place, but maybe not ideal for LA elitists. I'm from small-town Texas, and I love it.

Dang. Went in for the first time today and they wowed me. When I ordered a turkey sandwich I was surprised to see them slicing turkey right there, and I could t resist but request they add some of the wonderful looking pastrami. I'll be back and I suggest you give them a try.

So we left San Francisco Deli because they did not have light rye or corned beef for our sandwiches. Don's did not have light rye either so I opted for the sour dough bread (which is a kosher no no) and I was sorry I settled. The Ruban came on marbled "rye", which is more pumpernickel than rye, but the corned beef was good. My pastrami was not soft and was quite fatty and the sour dough was a bad decision I will never make again. I also had the potato salad which was edible, but nondescript. So yet another place to add to the list of no return. I'm from LA where Canters, The Hat and Langers are the industry standard for delicatessen fare and it seems that there are too many "delis" that are unaware of this. Sad.

I would not know how good the sandwiches are because I had ordered a daily special without the egg,. As I can't eat eggs, the lady making the sandwich said I owe a large amount. When I asked why it wasn't the daily special price, she said it wasn't the daily special. She made such a scene when I stated I could not eat eggs, that I just left. I will never go there again.

We were driving from Bay Area to Oregon and wanted deli sandwiches and Don's happened to be open M-F. I got a turkey on whole wheat and partner got the Philly with beef. Philly was so big we took 1/2 of it to go. Both our meats were juicy and everything fresh. My whole wheat bread was so n the soft so might get soggy if you saved for later. Mainly Redding locals, the ladies at the counter were friendly. Free cookies on your first visit! The chocolate chip cookies were like short bread. Yummy. Husband got some bread pudding w whiskey sauce to go.

Stopped in for lunch while traveling. Very kind. Gave us a treat since it was our first time in and it was one of the best cookies I've ever had. Sandwich was amazing as well. 10/10 would recommend.

Hidden gem in Redding. You don't find places like this anymore, very friendly locally owned business. Delicious sandwiches made to order, and fun homey atmosphere. Must stop if you're traveling through, or live nearby.
