The Original House of Soul is in a spot located off the beaten path, next to the Underground Tasting Room. I also recommend popping in there. The food is good, but I would say that much of the items you may want might not be readily available on the menu. No pork chops were available when we went. A bunch of their sides were not available. The fish and the smothered chicken was pretty good. The greens and I'd really like to see this place thrive, so check them out!

I came here 2 times on Saturday, and Sunday thinking they were opened but they are closed. I even Facebook message them on Saturday night in which they responded back saying they are open on Sunday but they lied to me. Also, they read the messages but did not respond back. I tried calling them so many times but they never picked up my phone calls. I cannot leave them a voice message or anything. Overall, it's a bad business, and I would not recommend this restaurant to anybody who wanted to try soul foods in Sacramento.

I went with a group of friends, we all ordered something different so that we could try all the different items. We ordered the fried chicken with greens and Mac and cheese everything was very good. We also ordered the smothered fried chicken with rice and Mac and cheese , the gravy was full of flavor. The last meal we ordered was the fried catfish and it was full of flavor. The batter was sooo good. I docked off a start because they also gave us free cornbread which was dry but very buttery. I ordered sweet tea but it was too sweet in my opinion!

this restaurant is in a very lowkey, almost hidden spot in old downtown. if you dont know its there you'd definitely miss it, but the aesthetic inside is very nice with a lot of african heritage influence. now to the food, i got fried chicken yams & collard greens and it was *chefs kiss* really good! i definitely plan on going again

This is for the person who was working at 9:28pm on Sunday. It was an extremely absolutely unprofessional lying female who was sooooo rude! I have been a fan of this restaurant, but because of her hostile and dishonest BS she tried to give me, I will never order from here again because their customer service is a big fat ZERO! She thought she was a DoorDash expert and completely lied to a customer and would t let me get a word in. From now on, I'll eat at FIXINS ONLY where service and food is excellent! #HOUSEOFLIARS

I gave my wife and her friend a LivingSocial voucher to eat at the House of Soul. The staff harassed her about the voucher, would not honor it and wanted my password access to my LivingSocial account before they would honor the voucher. I refused. They eventually honored the voucher when they received video of me showing the voucher had been used. My wife said the food wasn't very good. We'll add this restaurant to the list of restaurants that we will never go to again.
I'll say it's average and nothing worth going back for. Hostess/Server was pleasant no one in the restaurant at lunchtime we were the only guest the entire hour there. The list of things they were out of was longer than what they did have. No Ribs, brisket, potato salad, ox tails, and they even thought they were out of mashed potatoes and they had just opened an hour earlier. Drinking cups were small, staff was loud (sound travels) and someone in the kitchen had a horrible sounding cough.

Food was good but unfortunately many items on the menu not available. We arrived at 500 pm no potato salad no turkey wings no cornbread dressing. Service was lacking nice people but not very attentive. Overall restaurant a little dirty but nice decor. IMO has a lot of potential. We will try again as we do love Soul food. Husband loved short ribs and I loved fried catfish.

they were out of most their food at 7pm but close at 9pm or 10pm so disappointed because I am handicap the walk was long just to get there they dont have anything you want plus you have to walk down stairs to get to the restaurant so sad. There were other people complaining too tell dont do they were upset too. If you want food from you have to do it early because they dont cook to last until they close.

I will never order food from this place again. There has never been a time that I have ordered food from them where something wasn't missing from the order. The sides are alway messed up and its like they throw in whatever they feel like and rarely do they add the cornbread. Whats sad is that the food really is good but the orders are always messed. Im good, ill just find another place.
