This is a really small combination bodega market and deli tucked away inside an office building. You cannot see it from the street and I had to be directed by the downstairs office staff on where to go. There is no kitchen, just a counter behind the register with various items to prepare meals. Standing in front of the counter gave me an unobstructed view of the entire meal preparation process. First of all the prep area was an absolute mess. The owner, an older gentleman, began preparing my meal next to a trash can filled to the brim with trash. The counter where the owner began assembling the meal looked dirty. I watched in horror as he used his bare hands for everything. He grabbed a piece of what must have been precooked chicken meat and threw it into a microwave oven to heat up. A few minutes later he pulled it out and started cutting it. Then he added some vegetables to the wrap, again with the same hands that had touched the meat. By this time I was getting concerned about the safety of the food. Would I get sick? I paid for the meal and headed to a nearby park to eat. I sat down in the park and took a bite. The meat was bland and barely cooked hot enough. After a couple of bites, I decided the risk of getting sick was just too great and threw the rest of it away.

Delicious, reasonably priced homemade sandwiches, soup and more. Went here both of the days I visited the area. Cheap and very good! It’s located inside of another building in the back. Love this place. They have a loyal clientele too I noticed from interactions with other customers. Will always come back when I’m in the area.

first and last I will visit this place I saw Fred touching money , opening the microwave , grabbing food with his hands at the same time. no gloves no sanitizing nothin. He lied about washing his hands after I asked him and watching him make my food. This is extremely dangerous cross contamination . If you don't want food poisoning or worst, avoid this place.

We were in line today to order. We witnessed Fred handling money , opening the microwave , grabbing chicken with bare hands at the same time. This is a health hazard. If you don't want food poisoning or worst, avoid this place !!!!!

hidden gem! This deli spot is so fresh. Service is amazing. Food is delicious. Had the mushroom and barley soup. With a BLT! Highly recommend!

reasonable prices, everything homemade. The egg salad, soup and red skin potato salad were great. I wasn't a fan of the bread, thus the lower score

I was working at WeWork San Diego and wanted to find a local deli that was affordable. Fred's popped up on search and I decided to give it a try. The lunch combo was around $12 for a hot sandwich, chips, and a drink.Fred was there himself and obviously has built a reputation with the locals, which I really loved to see. The deli almost feels like a bodega, it's so simple but you can tell everyone loves it and so did I.My hot tuna sandwich was delicious and honestly a great meal after a long day of morning meetings. I would definitely go back and try more things on the menu in the future.Support this local business!

Good little hole in the wall sandwich shop with a nice variety of sandwiches, salads and drinks. Sandwich came with a free cup of soup. There is no seating so you need to eat your sandwich elsewhere.

Fred's is my go to stop in San Diego. By far my favorite sandwich shop in the area. The super California is amazing. Each lunch sandwich comes with homemade soup, and the soups are so tasty. If you're looking for breakfast or lunch, Fred's is the place to go. Consistent, fresh, filling, great taste, this place checks all the boxes. Not to mention Fred is a great human. Can't say enough about this small business.

Located in the back of the Jewelry building. Picked up breakfast for the family. The croissants were excellent! Definitely worth the time.
