Nestled in the heart of San Diego, Grater Grilled Cheese brings a gourmet twist to the grilled cheese sandeich. On a recent visit I ordered a pork belly grilled cheese or something of thay nature and it was a revelation. The combination of burnt pork end and melted cheese, and perfectly toasted bread elevated this grilled cheese to new heights. Each bite was a party in my mouth and the pork and BBQ sauce complemented the gooey cheese beautifully.I also had the parmesean truffle fries, a delight that left me craving more. The crispy fries were drizzled with truffle oil and sprinkled with parmesan cheese, creating an aroma and taste that stuck with me even when I was done!Grater Grilled Cheese is a must-visit destination in San Diego.

The carnivore grilled cheese and grater fries were delicious! Some of the best fries I’ve ever had. They have a lot of options, so I’ll definitely be going back to try more.

This location is.. odd. No soda fountain, limited beverage options. Typically only one person working the counter, so there's a long wait time... and both sandwiches I've gotten here have been dry and not very buttery or cheesy at all (and it's called a 5 Cheese). Disappointing for the price, likely won't be back.

Really good, spicy Buffalo Mac & Cheese. I like spicy and it has a kick. The other pastas were good if you don't like spicy. I like that you can build your own if you want, or customize toppings.I have had it delivered a few times when I am in the mood for this type of thing, and I have always been happy with it. It's got a very home-cooked feel to it. So it doesn't look fancy, but tastes comforting and is quite filling. The pasta has been cooked perfectly every time. Impressive. I like the sturdy noodles they use too.I tried a burger tonight. At first glance, it looked tiny and overdone. But, it was really good too. I kept it plain with just cheese, onions and Garlic aioli. I would definitely order it again, and the Mac & Cheese. This is a Food Court location by offices, so closed on the weekend and closes at 6 pm. Tricky hours. I haven't actually tried the grilled cheese, I want to eat it there. For now, I will enjoy the pasta.

We have high expectation for this place, how can you mess up a grilled cheese, right? Low and behold, it was surprisingly awful. We ordered 3 grilled cheeses: 1) Birria Grilled Cheese 2) Lobster Grilled Cheese 3) Avocado Grilled Cheese The Birria grilled cheese came with consume on the side, and that alone tasted like cough syrup. The birria wasn't even birria, it was corned beef. Rating 1.5/5 The Lobster grilled cheese was very fishy and the lobster was just a glob in the middle of the sandwich. Sauce was nothing special. Rating 2/5 The Avocado grilled cheese could have been made better, but it was made poorly. The bacon was half of a single slice for the entire sandwich. Rating 2.5/5 With each grilled cheese we made it a combo and had got grater truffle fries with each sandwich. Those were delicious, except for the fact they were all small bits and pieces rather than the whole fry. Rating 3.5/5 We also ordered the Sweet Potato S'mores.. sounds delectable right? Yeah well not really. The sweet potato fries were burnt, the marshmallows were hard, and the graham crackers were stale tasting. Overall our experience of this place was less than mediocre and we will surely never be coming back..

I was blown away by how good this actually turned out to be! I got the Birria Grilled Cheese with a side of consome. Here is where my one-star dinged goes. They didn't put ANY birria meat in the consome... One of the things that make birria and consome SO good is having some extra meat in the soup! That said everything about this was wonderful. The consome at first seemed TOO salty but the balance of the grilled cheese and the bread actually removed some of that nearly too salty level. I would DEFINITELY order this again, I wish I could have tried more items but I used DoorDash. I cannot speak on ambiance but the food was definitely delicious and it was still pretty warm when I received it, even though it was delivery.

Country mac and fries, can't go wrong on a lunch break! Customer service is in point, and location is very convenient for my job.

Definitely looks and sounds better than it tastes. My coworkers and I came here and I was incredibly excited because I love grilled cheeses. I ended up getting the Chicken Pesto Grilled Cheese and it really wasn't anything special. Their pesto was bland and it didn't mesh well with the cheese blend they had. The chicken tasted fine, but they could've added more to fill the sandwich up more (especially for the price). The bread also wasn't as crispy as I was expecting it to be. The texture made me feel like it had been sitting for a while before I got it. Overall, it's a pretty pricey grilled cheese, so I was definitely expecting more from it and a better taste. I'll probably still come back and try a different kind of sandwich because my coworkers liked what they got more than I liked mine.

I just got this for lunch. This place is in a food hall type of place, tucked in a corner. Parking is abundant, though there are tons businesses around, so there might just be a bit of a struggle. Nothing too bad. My coworker and I ordered the lobster grilled cheese, the s'mores sweet potato fries, and tomato soup to share. The grilled cheese was fresh, warm, toasted and buttery and not dry and cold. I could can taste the chipotle aioli and the lobster. No fishy smell, but you can taste the lobster and there were good chunks in it. The s'more sweet potato fries are okay because it was medium marshmallows, broken up pieces of gram crackers and like a thin chocolate sauce. I feel like in concept it is a good idea, perhaps if it was mini marshmallows/ smaller pieces and it was more of a fudge sauce or chocolate chips and evenly distributed rather it being on top, it would be much better (but that is just my idea on how I would have tackled it). The totamto soup, though small portion, was actually really good, not thin, but not thick. And very flavorful. I think I would enjoy this is the cold season with an OG grilled cheese. The guy you was packaging my order was friendly and the area was really clean. From my quick glance I took around the area, there are places to sit and eat there. I ordered through Toast with Google (?), at it was so easy to order through there, it gave me an estimated time to pick up. I arrived exactly when it was ready, which was nice. They even send a text message confirmation. This very convenient if you are picking up lunch for the office.

Food was good but portion is small for what you pay for. I got the mushroom burger, a coconut water and the truffle fries. The truffle fries didn't have much truffle flavor, portion is kinda small and some pieces were too salty. Burger was good but small. If I go back, will try the grilled cheese sandwiches.

Food is good… when you can get attention to order. 99% of the time nobody there to take your order.I’ve gone there 12 days in a row and had to go elsewhere. Shame as it was great initially.

This was ... fine. I was in the mood for a burger, and had not had lunch before shopping in the neighborhood. So I thought why not try out these guys. Grated is located in a food hall, one of the few current tenants, and looked almost deserted. There was just one other customer, their having arrived just seconds before me. It was a bit slow to place my order, two employees visible. Although I was acknowledged, it took several minutes for one of the workers to finish his current task and take my order. This is kinda pricey for what you get. The main complaint I have with the carnivore grilled cheese is the diameter of the beef patty: by the time you take a few bites out of the middle, you're done, and about a third of your sandwich will be just the grilled cheese. Fries were a small serving for the price but I'm glad I got them. This was enough food for two meals, so there's that. However, there isn't enough to interest me in coming back or trying additional menu items.
