The sushi is pretty good. The service was awful. They forgot to ring in a few dishes, which is no big deal, it happens... But it took literally 15min to be greeted at the table after the server already said we can sit anywhere we liked on the patio. We were the only people out there. They didn't bring us waters, the food came out in the reverse order... entree came out first, followed by apps and soups. That's not a huge deal, but it seems like there was a lack of communication between servers and 2 servers were taking things back and forth. Quality checks are important, just a simple how are things tasting... but we got zero words coming from the staff. They didn't clear any plates either, and if you know from edamame and sushi sometimes there's a bit of a mess left over. Dirty dishes should be cleared throughout the meal. But it seemed like they didnt want to take the extra steps to come out to the patio which is literally right next to the front door. We sadly won't be back, there are so many sushi options and I refuse to spend top dollar prices on sushi if the service is below standards. One Paseo is an Awesome place and a great place for a business. I hope they treat others like they are wanted, so their business thrives and improves. But this was a low mark.

This is a Japanese restaurant where you can enjoy a pleasant meal with fresh ingredients and friendly service.Salmon skin salad is a great appetizer as it combines crispy fried salmon skin with vegetables. The special nigiri set was good and the California roll was well made, had a good texture and the ingredients were fresh.I think it will be a nice and enjoyable time to eat with your lover and family. The bathroom is inside, but it is also located near the restaurant bar, so you can use it comfortably.Udon is delicious because it has good broth, is not salty, and is protein.

Just tried it for the 1st time and do not recommend. Good location, nice setup. Food was disappointing, ordered the Japanese red snapper sushi and a fire cracker roll. The red snapper was fresh and a nice cut (maybe could have used a bit of searing and a touch of flaky salt). The roll wasn’t good, but that wasn’t my main issue, i didn’t appreciate that they didn’t add 2 of the ingredients that the roll was supposed to contain. I don’t like mushy food, most rolls in san diego nowadays are full of fake crab meat so mush, this one claimed to also have cucumber, masago, tuna and scallop so things that would somewhat compensate the mushiness, after much deliberation i picked that one. They did not include the cucumber or the masago in my roll and the tuna on top (that looked like sashimi cut on the picture) was just mush. When i asked the chef where was the masago, he was like oh some people don’t like but i can add it if you want and just dumped some on the roll… if people don’t like it and you stop adding it, maybe remove it from the menu (do people not like cucumber either?). Definitely felt to me like either laziness on their part or worse cost cutting measures. Maybe this place is ok for happy hour, but this time it wasn’t worth it.

I just came back from a vacation in Japan and wanted to compare my local Japanese restaurants to what I had in Japan. This restaurant has great food — the sashimi was fresh and the nigiri was expertly formed and shaped. The tempura in my udon was not as crispy as I perhaps would have liked, but this is a sushi restaurant after all. Would definitely come back!
