Cute little Japanese curry joint across the street from the LGBT Center. Kinda limited menu, but they do a great job at what they offer. Curry is the highlight, but other dishes are strong. Corn Potage Soup: Not something I'd order normally, if it weren't for all the photos of it here. But I'm glad I succumbed to peer pressure, since this was so delightful. Creamy and really corny, like how Japanese grape candy tasty really grape-y, this soup was excessively corny. Plus the little ramekin of mini crotons was fun to mix in throughout the soup. Teppanji: This was essentially chicken karaage served on a sizzling platter in some sort of sweet vinegary sauce with lots of onions. I liked all the flavors, but the crispy batter of the karaage quickly became soft and mushy. Still very tasty chicken. So a mixed experience. Signature Katsu Curry (Pork): With curry in the restaurant's name, you know you better try it. Full of great flavors and very savory, but not hot spicy. Though there were six different pepper shakers on the table to spice it up, if you want. I was torn because I do like the chili heat, but I was also trying to appreciate all the complex ingredients in the curry and didn't to overpower it. So I would occasionally just sprinkle chili only on a forkful of curry drench meat I was about to eat. The pork katsu was nice, quick fried and crispy, perfect vehicle to catch a bunch of curry sauce. Also, the little scoop of mayo-heavy potato salad was a nice way to cool the palate between bites. Beef Hayashi Om-Rice: After trying their signature curry, I was curious to try what the menu called "European-style gravy sauce". I've had a lot of European food and it really wasn't like any gravy I've known. It was more like a less spicy Japanese curry sauce that was strong on the onions and little sweet. Served with lots of nice thin slices of beef, kinda like Yoshinoya beef. The omurice was a nice pairing, adding a bit more personality than regular rice. Lots of yummy gravy to go around. +Menchi Katsu: Added on this deep fried pork patty for a little extra protein. It wasn't quite dense like a Jimmy Dean sausage patty. It seemed breaded on the inside, but still meaty, so had a croquette texture. I liked it, went well with the gravy. Yuzu Lemonade: Aromatic and refreshing. Not as tart/sour as some lemonade. Found it a nice crisp way to counter the fried food. Assam Black Milk Tea: I was warned that this was very sweet, but that made me want this even more! It was like having bubble tea, without the boba. Nice and cooling for when I go a little crazy with the chili powder.

After eating at Curry Hyuga, I was raving about it to anyone who would listen for about a week! I went with my coworkers for a Wednesday lunch and we all got curry plates. I got the chicken katsu curry and it was delicious. I loved the caramelized onion-based curry, the depth of flavor is sooo good! The chicken katsu was cooked perfectly with the crispy panko outside with juicy chicken inside. Definitely come early for lunch because the place fills up!

This place has completely changed my perspective on curry--I never craved it until now. Opting for the Signature Katsu Curry with added omurice, shredded cheese, and ajitama egg (for an extra cost) was a delightful choice, although the ajitama egg was disappointingly hardboiled instead of softboiled as expected. Nevertheless, everything else surpassed my expectations. The pork was impeccably crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, and the generous portions of curry were wonderfully warm and savory. The Yuzu lemonade complemented my meal perfectly with its subtle citrus flavor, while my boyfriend thoroughly enjoyed his Guava Lemonade. We also indulged in the Corn Potage Soup, which boasted a rich and creamy corn flavor--I only wish they had served more of it. Additionally, the variety of chili powders provided, ranging from levels 1 to 6, added an extra layer of excitement to our dining experience. Despite finding level 3 a bit too spicy for my taste, I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of this curry establishment and can't wait to return for more.

Curry Hyuga have finally opened shop in San Francisco! The chicken katsu is always amazing and portion sizes are perfect.Prices seem to be higher than Burlingame location that I visited earlier this year.

Summary: Solid katsu curry in the Bay Details: The history of katsu curry in the city has been a dark one, during my residency here at least. We lost my #1 Kare-ken many years ago, followed far-too-soon after by my #2 Japacurry, after which we entered something of a dark age for curry in the Bay, where I simply could not find any decent enough options to warrant eating out. I perked up a bit when I first heard about Curry Hyuga opening up in the Peninsula, but with some mixed reviews from friends, I never really made the trek down for it when there were more reliable alternative cuisines in the area. But finding myself hungry, and near their newly opened SF location, I figured it was finally time to pop in and try it for myself. So, no, it doesn't really hold up again the former greats, but it's a whole heckuva lot tastier than I was expecting or fearing! The katsu breading is done well, with a nice crisp exterior and juicy interior, and the curry has enough depth of flavor to beat out Golden Curry (which you'd expect to be a low bar, but...), which altogether warrants a spot on my food rotation. Accessibility: Plenty of accessible seating and space to maneuver around.

Best authentic tonkatzu I have found in town. They are still in their soft open stage so I normally would not write a review, but they've got it down already. I got the non-curry tonkatzu plate and was quite happy and full for under $20. The miso soup even had chicken in it and it reminded me of the standard plates in Osaka I've had. I will definitely be back considering it's a short walk from my house. Cool part: they have 8 levels of spices on every table and give you a sesame grinder when appropriate.

Fantastic curry. I went around opening and there wasn't a long wait at all. Free potato salad was very tasty. Karage was big, moist, and flavorful. Tonkatsu curry is really good. I also got the tonkatsu don delivered. Not as good fresh, but still very good and filling.

Solid Katsu, loved the spices at the table to customize your spice level, and good portion size for price. Great friendly service and clean place. Great addition to the neighborhood! Very hopeful it does well :)

I decided to try this place due to the great reviews and I honestly can say I love this place. I can now add Curry Hyuga to the list of places to eat I love. The food tastes great and the service was really friendly. If I can give this place 10 stars I would. I highly recommend people come try this place

The best curry which has interesting mix of flavors, yes umami. Highly recommend it. And I had nice practice talking Japanese with Japanese speaking waitress.

Very solid option for Japanese curry, would definitely recommend! Pretty big portion size served with cabbage, potato salad, and pickled radish. The tonkatsu was very crisp and well-fried tonkatsu, still retaining it's moisture. The curry is sweeter-leaning than I prefer but flavorful and good overall. Karaage was really good, light and crispy batter and very juicy chicken. Served with cabbage and a dipping sauce which was also good. They also have 6 to 8 hot sauce spice powders on the table which was cool to try.

This was an amazing Japanese curry spot! Service was impeccable and the curry was very tasty. Reminded me just like those in Japan or even CoCo curry chains in Japan and Hawaii. We had the chicken karaage and pork katsu and both were amazing. I loved the levels of spice powder you can add up to your liking. I would highly recommend this place and would come back at least once a month!

I got takeout food from curry hyuga. It was really good comfort food. The chicken Karage and the curry both taste different than what I'm used to but they are both really good regardless. The Karage was a bit oily tho which reduced its crispiness.
