I enjoyed the kitfo, which was far milder and less salty than I am used to, but comforting for me. I'd call it homey; the kind if thing I could see myself eating regularly for a long time.I liked the gluten free injera, which was lighter than I am used to and less sour, but had a decent consistency.Collards were nice.Service was struggling to keep up. There was a large party. I came alone, and sat at the bar, and that was alright. They were apologetic, which I didn't need. That's to say, it wad not a perfect experience, but I liked it.Dietary restrictions: Gluten-free. Immune disorder. No major issue.

Updated Review:I used to frequent New Eritrea when I lived on the west side of the city. I moved to the east side, and then the pandemic happened. My friend and former roommate decided it was time to go back. And the food is just as good as we remembered it! I got the yellow split peas and I ate everything on my plate. The split peas had a savory, earthy flavor and it paired well with the sweetness of the cooked carrots. And then there's the delicious sourness of the injera bread that ties it all together. We also ordered the mixed veggie sambusas, which were also delicious. They were crispy and full of veggies. The sauce it came with gave it some heat. And I had to order the honey wine. It wasn't overly sweet and was definitely needed to wind down a long work week.Service was great as usual. The staff are super friendly and welcoming. They haven't changed the decor, and I like that. It's still a mom-and-pop shop and the focus is serving excellent food.My friend and I got there before the dinner rush, and I could see that phone/online orders were coming in. So I'm happy that they're still doing well after the pandemic. If you've never tried Eritrean food, then I highly recommend you dine here first. You can order your own entree or get a bigger plate to share with friends/family. And you eat with your hands btw, which makes the dining experience much more fun.—————————————————————————-Once in awhile, my roomies and I get a craving for Ethiopian food. And when we do, we go to New Eritrea. If you've never tried Ethiopian/Eritrean food, you should try this place. You won't be disappointed.Vegetarian options: They have about 6 vegetarian options, including combos. You can also get a vegetarian platter to share among friends/family. The options include yellow split peas, potatoes, and lentils. There’s also a lentil sambusa and mixed veggies sambusa.

Had a birthday celebration here with family from out of town. Our group of 7 was served wonderfully. The food was delicious, easy to share among the group. The wine was perfect. The price was reasonable. It turned out to be Super Bowl Sunday and the game was on but did not overwhelm the atmosphere. Highly recommend.

This place has great food. The menu is clear, it has a vegan section on it. The lentil bean puree is so good!!!! So is the Teff injera!

Great vegetarian combo options for parties of 2+. Everything is fantastic. Service was super attentive and friendly. Very tasty - no leftovers, we finished it all! Injera bread was sour and soft, dishes were varied and seasoned perfectly. Everything came out piping hot!

Unbelievably tasty and fun dining experience, can’t recommend this restaurant enough, especially if you have a group of friends eager to dive into a big communal plate of amazing curries!

I ordered several items for take out to eat over the next couple days. Honestly I only thought the sambusa stood out. They put tons of bread in the to-go containers on top and under the food for all of the six items - even when I picked it up the bread had soaked up most of the sauce portions of the meal and by the next day there was almost no sauce left. Please put your bread in a separate container!!

My favorite restaurant in the Sunset. Been coming here for years and other Ethiopian restaurants I have gone to have not compared in the amazing flavor! I love that their injera is GF and their sampler platters are always such a great deal!
