Rintaro offers exceptional quality food with a mix of traditional Japanese options and innovative twists. The service is attentive, and the cozy atmosphere in the courtyard remains comfortable even on windy days thanks to the heaters. The menu features delicious dishes such as deluxe sashimi special, tonkotsu, oden, udon, chicken thigh, and panna cotta. Unique and local ingredients make the food authentic yet give a San Francisco experience. The space is beautiful, with gorgeous woodworking throughout the restaurant and a lovely patio decorated with plants. The dishes include sashimi with nicely aged soy sauce and freshly grated wasabi, flavorful yakitori skewers like Momo with sansho pepper sauce and crispy Bonjiri, and the standout Kama Tama Udon with a buttery bonito flavor and perfectly chewy noodles. Other items include a large fried fish, but some bones were not as fried and had to be removed. The Hojicha Panna Cotta was smooth but a bit plain, with subtle syrup. While the menu has many highlights, the drinks selection is limited to wine, beer, and shochu, with no highballs or Japanese whiskey available. Overall, Rintaro captures the essence of a contemporary izakaya, offering authentic and delicious Japanese street food in a refined setting, making it a highly recommended spot for a memorable dining experience in San Francisco. Reservations are advised for this popular spot in the Mission.
