Admittedly this is one the better sushi spots the area because they serve better quality fish than most of the other spots but the customer service SUCKS. Expect a wait of 30 min if you want to come in for the sushi bar if you don't have a reservation for 1 person. No problem! HOWEVER- if you put your name on the waiting list for the bar which they give you a waiting time AND elect to order some dishes to go (they cannot quote you the time it takes for you to get your food) they will NOT allow you to eat at the bar.... ?!?%##%!? The hostess will also ONLY allow you to order cut rolls. Or that is at least the crock of sh*t the "hostess" expects you to eat up. She will be short and non-confrontational in the most rude way possible hiding behind "cultural differences" - I don't buy it. She's probably rude because she has the toughest job since no one else in the restaurant can help you or answer questions- they just say wait for the hostess. It's a lot of pressure for her I suppose. Manage those expectations about poor customer service and you should be fine and enjoy some decent fish. My wish is a real Japanese restaurant group come in with even better fish sourcing and decent customer service- they would mop the floor with these guys and take SLO County by storm because it is that bad for service and sushi in the area.

Oishi Goshi! Goshi takes the spot for best Asian food in SLO, and that's not just because there are a grand total of less than 10 Asian food places in SLO. They offer a fanfare of great tasting Japanese dishes, from sushi to donburi to udon. Service is impeccable and impressive considering how busy this place gets relative to the wait staff here. It's apparent that they take the extra step to try to source quality, fresh fish and ingredients where they can. I like to order from the colored "specials paper" which has seasonal fish and chef's specials that try to incorporate recent catches/shipments. I will say this, though: Goshi is not a super high-end establishment that crosses every T and dots every I. Just today I had a piece of lotus tempura that was notably old/sour, and that's okay! For the overall quality and cost, I don't think there's a better deal around, and I'm certain that there's nothing comparable as far as JP food goes within an hour's drive. The interior of the restaurant feels nice and vibrant, in no small part due to the crazy hecticness that I mentioned earlier. It's notoriously difficult to get a seat here, so if you're doing a walk-in, come early at the start of lunch/dinner service and expect a 90 minute wait. Otherwise, get a headstart with a reservation online.

Ordered the lunch special today and there was a piece of glass in the seaweed salad. The back of house seemed very concerned but the front of house didn't real do much about it except for apologize. I don't think they understand how bad that could of been for me and the restaurant. I lost my appetite afterwards. They offered me another but if there was glass in that one there is probably glass in the others. Be careful when coming here.

I absolutely love this sushi restaurant. If someone knows of better sushi please let me know.It was recommended to me while staying in Pismo for having the freshest fish. I was absolutely blown away by the ambiance, friendliness and the food! I’ve been twice within a couple months making the 2.5 hour trek. The Albacore Roll is amazing. The service is just as great as the food. Everyone is friendly despite how busy they are.I will update my review but I’m pretty much hooked on the albacore roll. The miso soup is delicious, salads, everything.Stay tuned, again this is a must while in SLO. It’s always busy, so if you can get a reservation, I would recommend doing so.

Highly recommended. Consistently the best quality freshest sushi in San Luis Obispo. Regular specials feature interesting new options as well as remarkably delicious favorites. The sushi chefs are friendly and always willing to recommend new dishes based on your preferences. The wait at lunch or dinner can be long if you don't have a reservation, so reservations are recommended. The location is in The Creamery in downtown San Luis Obispo, with several other restaurants and a drinking establishment, so you can enjoy a nice walk through The Creamery before or after your meal.Dietary restrictions: Respectful of dietary requests.

WOW! Didn't expect such phenomenal sushi in San Luis Obispo. This place could compete with the best in SF and LA. If you're in the area, make reservations and get in here, you won't be disappointed.

Please sort out the front of house and how you manage the line. Telling people they have to wait another 45 mins after they had already waited for 45 mins with zero communication inbetween is pretty rubbish. We left so never got to taste the food. If we had waited, they’d have to deal with 5 corpses outside of their restaurant.

Chased the hype from some mutual friends. Left feeling a tad disappointed. To keep it short and simple, the fish itself was fine, but the rice was terrible. Bland and slightly dry, it was severely lacking flavor. Sushi lovers know the most important test of good sushi is the rice. In this case, the quality of fish didn’t overcome the quality of rice.
