My Husband's favorite place to get sushi. We usually get it to go, they're very quick and their prices are alot better than some of the other places around town.

Low key some of the best sushi I’ve had in San Diego. The ambiance is nothing special but the sushi is all to die for. The Blackedge and Midori rolls are my favorite and are polar opposites. Can’t beat Blackened Tuna ! Our Server Naelani was super helpful and guided our choices! Thanks to the whole teamVegetarian options: Cucumber and tofu optionsParking: Free parking in the lotKid-friendliness: Super family oriented restaurantWheelchair accessibility: Roll up access

Overall 5/5 delicious sushi, fast and friendly service and affordable prices!Food: sushi 5/5 never disappointed in their sushi. Loved all our rolls. Fish is good quality, the sizes reflect the prices and the combinations are perfect. Also the variety they have is hugd! Everyone wi find something they like. Love the amount of no rice rolls they have too.Mushroom surprise: 4/5 savory but need more sauce.Karaage: 5/5. Juicy, crispy, and so many pieces! Ambiance: restaurant has plenty of seating and quick service. Been two times and will be back plenty of more times! Need to try their other cuisines.

The first time we came to Umai was during covid, and they only offered takeout. We wanted to try a different sushi restaurant from the regular place we go to and thought we'd return here. As soon as we entered, we were greeted and seated. Our waitress came to our table right away to take our drink order, which came out promptly. We then placed our order. The food didn't take long to come out, and it was very good. Fresh and great flavor. Our waitress came by to check on us, which we appreciated. The food and staff were great. If the ambiance were better, I would have given them 5 stars. The restaurant was a bit loud and the music was also loud. The genre of music didn't go with the restaurant either. 50s R&B was a bit dated. Other than that, it was a decent experience. We'll return and give it another try.

What a fantastic, unexpected wonderful dinner. The sushi chef, Enoc, was incredible. He made some of the best dishes and was so happy and wonderful to converse with. The staff was all just so pleasant. This was such a nice surprise. It has been a long time since we've had a truly great experience.

The music is the best part! 70's funk and 80's hits! Place is getting old, broken and chipped plates are still in use.Good flavor, but I think they use too much krab meat and rely on sauces more than fish flavor. Great teas and beer, nevertheless Need to up the desserts. No tempura ice cream!

I had been here before the pandemic and it was pretty good. My most recent trip was a very different experience. The food wasn't too bad but the service definitely degraded. Had to ask for things repeatedly, rarely got water refills, and this was when it wasn't even that busy. The worst thing though is the half off menu. They jacked the prices up to about $25 per roll and said they are half off. The premium rolls are only a couple dollars more per roll! It's a very blatant marketing gimmick but at least now I know. I get the pandemic has made things more difficult but the half off menu really peeved me. It has a nice interior and atmosphere though.

This has got to be some of the BEST sushi I have ever had. The sashimi cuts are THICC and lean. All the rolls are well put together and don’t fall apart when you dip them in soy. I’ve had the shashito peppers and calamari apps, both are grade A. This place is so good it makes me wonder why people even waste time cooking fish in real life. I found this place about two weeks ago and I’ve already been 6 times at least. I lost count. I’ll be back.
