We provided BentoSprout bentos for our guests at our wedding in Mill Valley and our families and friends LOVED their bentos (of course we did too bc we chose it duh lol)!!! TLDR: if you’re looking for delicious, balanced, beautiful, healthy, authentic bento boxes for your event (wedding, birthday, other celebration, office gathering, etc) AND want to support business that is Japanese-woman owned, we highly recommend BentoSprout! If you want to make the bento boxes fit a more formal setting, you can have it in wooden boxes that are compostable and also add a furoshiki cloth (locally and support an AAPI-owned business if you can) for a very reasonable additional cost. They look so nice while being minimalist. It was the perfect amount of food for a wedding for everyone and for those with a bigger appetite, it would be totally more than enough with a few appetizers. My husband is Japanese and it was so important for us to reflect his culture in the food we offered at our wedding and it needed to be delicious and perfect, which Mireille’s bentos were. His family have very high standards for food and they enjoyed their bentos wholeheartedly and were emphatic about how skillful she must be for the dishes in the bentos to have come out as perfectly as they did. Her bentos are beautiful and so thoughtful, as well as balanced, and above all so incredibly tasty. We had a tasting for her bentos and we were so impressed then, and hard to believe but it was even better on the day of our wedding!Mireille is so easy to work with and extremely communicative and accommodating. We had a number of guests with dietary restrictions and preferences and she was so careful and meticulous in ensuring that she understood them perfectly and then prepared them without issue and our guests really enjoyed their meals.Mireille, thank you so much for making our day extra special with the love and care you put into your bentos and food. Thank you for all the emails you exchanged with us and double checking, as well as the thoughtful and generous touch you did for our bentos given our budget. It made us so happy to see how much our families and friends enjoyed our food, and we of course loved our own meals that day thoroughly!Photo credit: Photography by Vee

Ordered buffet-style catering for a business lunch meeting at our department, and was recommended Bento Sprout by my colleague. I've had their bentos before and they are delicious! The food is very home-style Japanese, and similar to the comfort food my Japanese mother cooks for dinner. In terms of catering, working with Mireille was great and smooth sailing all the way. We had a very specific order in mind (including how we were requesting a buffet style instead of boxed bentos) and she was very accommodating and transparent in the cost breakdown. The presentation for the chirashi and inari was beautiful. All of the entrees and sides were received very well by all our guests who raved about the teriyaki salmon and karaage! We even had one of our attendees come up to ask us where we ordered our catering from. Overall it was a pleasant experience all around and we look forward to ordering from Bento Sprout for our future events!

Authentic bento box!!! Looks small but has layers. Rice and main entree on top, three sides differ but I mine had japanese potato salad, yam noodle/carrot, spinach gomae, plus dessert mochi filled with sweet adzuki (res) beans. Meatball was tasty and filling, as was the sesame tofu/broccoli. The teri salmon was also very good, but a slightly larger portion would be better. All well seasoned, bento is traditionally more seasoned so it can sit out a bit longer and is eaten at room tempurature, thus served with plain rice. BentoSprout is better than the bento boxes served at japanese markets, thus reflective in the price. I will go again! And I think they cater, which would be a good change of pace for the next work lunch event, and comes perfectly packaged!

The bento boxes were a little smaller that what I was hoping for. I do wish the portions were a tiny bit larger. Overall it was still a good meal with all the Japanese staple ingredients to give people a wide variety of authentic ingredients to choose from.

I highly recommend ordering from BentoSprout. Mireille was extremely responsive and helped me curate my daughter's birthday party with a bunch of little kids. She's professional, timely and a good cook! Parents had the chicken nanban, pork katsu and teriyaki salmon. The kids had a chicken karaage bento. The food was well balanced for both the adult bentos and kids. Kids ate up most of their boxes, and some adults had extras. I requested special accommodations for the kids boxes, and Mireille delivered exactly how I wanted it. She even tried sizing the kids foods smaller for an easier meal. It was thoughtful and worked out well. The custom portions worked well for the 3-5 age group. The kids had a karaage bento with a mochi. The mochi was very soft the day of and stayed soft the day after (even after refrigeration). The adults had chicken with tartar, pork katsu, teriyaki salmon Overall, really happy with the food and sustainable packaging. Thanks so much! Will definitely consider you again for any future events.

Satisfying, cute bento meant to be served at room temp. I've tried their tofu and their chicken katsu. Prefer the katsu, with its crunchiness and side of katsu sauce. They definitely don't skimp on white rice for filler. Sides are about the same each order, with a peanut-y wilted greens salad, glass noodles, Japanese-style potato salad, and a red bean mochi for dessert. Packaged nicely, though they could benefit from adding some more fresh veggies or pickles for added texture changes and acidity.

When you open the plastic lid, you can't help smiling to see the colorful bento. The quality is so much higher than any bento boxes you find at stores or restaurants. Not only these bentos are very delicious, colorful and healthy, you'll appreciate how carefully they were cooked and prepared. The owner, Mireille is very friendly and listen to our feedback to improve her products and service. There are vegetarian, vegan and gluten free menus and you can request brown rice, too. Highly recommended.

Tasty, healthy and satisfying bento box. A lot of other bento boxes out there are too salty, but the bento box from BentoSprout is lightly seasoned, but bold flavor. I hope my company use this caterer regularly. Highly recommended.

I ordered a pork katsu bento box from Bentosprout. When I got it, I was surprised on how they took the time to carefully package the lunch as everything was super neat within the takeout box. There was a good portion of the pork cutlet, with it being cut into thin strips for easier consumption. It was cold by the time it got to me though and I didn't have a way to warm it up, but the breading was still slightly crispy, so it wasn't bad to eat cold. The glass noodles were very delicious and the potato salad was definitely one of the better ones that I've had. On the other hand, what I believe to be a ball of spinach was kinda mediocre and the "salad" was just two ends of a leaf of lettuce and one grape tomato. I which there was more greens to offset the fried cutlet, which would have made this meal more balanced. The red bean mochi was still soft and chewy and exactly what I want when I get mochi.

I've had a couple of bento and both times have come away underwhelmed. I think what was supposed to be chicken teriyaki wasn't grilled and was coated in a thick gluey sauce instead of a glaze. The namasu was overly squeezed and dry. The mochi was too soft and the anko had bits of undercooked bean. I had bought obento for my elderly parents and was embarrassed by how mazui it was! Two stars for effort and presentation.
