Extremely tasteful, in every possible way. Natural wine focused, bottle shop and wine bar in Sebastopol. Very welcomed addition to the community and supports/stocks a lot of local, smaller, winemakers in Sonoma county I had never even heard of. From the moment you step in the décor feels welcoming and artisinal. Walls of wine create a canvas that would make even Matisse proud. The wine itself is like a mural of cultures - highlighting local producers in Sebastopol making avant-garde whites, to more non-traditional New Zealand umami-driven pinots, to Georgian funk fests. Punchdown imports it all and offers it here to share by the taste, glass and bottle. The key here is in the variety, yet the true life of Punchdown is in the unpretentious staff and afforable price points, allowing customers to indulge in such stimulating, global treats.

Great shop with an amazing variety of local and international wine! The people who work here were very friendly and helped us pick the perfect bottle for a birthday dinner.

Natural wines means nothing to me - I wasn't sure why I should want natural wines so the appeal to go in was the openness that made it look inviting to sit at the bar and have a glass of wine. First thing that popped was an orange wine listing - also clueless there is orange wine - found out some compare it to the sour beers - tried a taste and liked it but the woman behind the bar suggested a rose I loved and bought a bottle. Natural wine means they don't use chemicals on the grapes or in the bottle except sulfur. We loved the wine pourer (what do you call a person pouring your wine- they are so much more than a wine pourer) we learned so much- tasted her favorites and vowed to return. They also have a fun wall of local and internationally imported food with a large Spanish/Portuguese canned fish collection.

Live in Sebastopol and want this place to succeed. Visited in the middle of the day and there were no other customers. The person in the shop wasn't super sweet and engaging. He was okay. Not great. Not all that welcoming or excited to see us. I went directly to the local wines, which to me should have been a signal. It would have been nice had he offered us a little taste of a nice local wine. Hint hint. Also it wasn't really clear to me that all the wines are organic and low in sulfates. The front end should be super engaging so I would want to come back. Right now. I don't. What's the unique thing about this place? I hope they find it. I want it to succeed.

I have been a long time fan of The Punchdown in Oakland, especially after their 2022 James Beard nomination for "Outstanding Wine Program", so I was really excited to hear that they were opening up a new location in wine country, Sebastopol, Sonoma County. As always, the owners are very knowledgable about natural wine -- gotta have it! -- and their selection is top rate. All small producers and representation world wide, although I was impressed with their selection of Californian natural wines as well. The food is simple yet elegant. They have a smaller kitchen than the Oakland location, but it is still the same high quality. The decor is very similar to their downtown location -- there are old vines decorating the interior. Highly recommend!

Another great addition to the Barlow in Sebastopol! The wine selection is very large and the wines by the glass change every week. The space is bright and airy with a large garage style door opened in front letting in lots of air. Two tables to sit outside and plenty more inside. All four wines I tasted were excellent. The people that work there are super friendly and knowledgeable about the wines. This place is great!

Best place to be in the Barlow. DC, Lisa, and staff answer any questions about wine. Massive selection of natural wines to drink in a beautiful and inviting space. Run don’t walk, and then take it easy and unwind with a glass of something you haven’t tried yet. 6/5 stars.

I have been a fan of The Punchdown from my years living in Oakland and it is so exciting to see them in Sebastopol. DeeCee is not only knowledge about wine but also just a delight to chat with. Don’t miss a chance to have a beautiful glass of wine at this new spot!
