I added Foodsmith deliveries to my meal planning for convenience a couple of years ago, because who has time to cook for the family every day after work anymore. It was great for a while, but problems started happening more and more often, and now I'm thinking of going back to my own weekend meal prep instead. Pros: tasty food on the whole, good variety if you're not ordering every day of the week and every single week. I ordered only a few days a week, and even then, I felt like it was the same dishes after a while. Lots of cauliflower rice and cauliflower mash. Kale. Yams. Zucchini and squash. I do love their salads, though. Cons: no real choice in meals. You get whatever is on the menu for whatever delivery day you order for. Also, it can be tough to tell if the meal you receive is actually a large or a regular because they don't label meal sizes. I order multiple large servings per meal and split it among the kids, and often the amounts between identical meals are wildly inconsistent. I keep wondering about the people who order only one serving of each meal: How would they know what size they actually got? Another con: my orders were delivered incorrectly more times than I'd like. Each time it would add a ton of stress because I'm planning the family's meals around the deliveries, since I have to order a week in advance. Finding out on the morning of the delivery that I am short a meal or was given fewer servings of each meal was very stress-inducing. The bottoms of the compostable containers also get soaked through really easily. Given all of this, plus the recent price increases, I'm looking for other options.

Really wanted to like this place with few choices of meal prep in Santa Cruz. I bought one week of breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There is something really off about their eggs, they have some weird coat of slime on them. Everything they make is on a bed of spinach which smells and tastes old. The chicken, which is almost every meal, is inedible dry. The smell and taste of the breakfast my 2nd day literally made me vomit. This place is going to make someone really sick at some point, and I wouldn’t feed it to my dog. It was so bad that I didn’t even pick up my second installment of meals halfway through the week. They don’t have an actual person you can talk to, only email, so I wrote them twice asking for a refund and an explanation of why they are serving this to people. They didn’t even have the class to respond to my email. This is clearly a dying business, which is probably in the best interest of everyone’s health. Look elsewhere.

Organized and timely delivery. The fruit and vegetables were old and tasteless and the turkey was salty. The chef overseasoned with burnt chili spices to make up for the poor quality of food. No palate and lack of passion. Bizarre

Healthy ready to eat meals delivered twice a week. What more could I want? Maybe a pescatarian option, I'd pay extra.

The food just kind of looked like it was prepared a couple days ago, the quality of the food was not good, seemed just thrown together and the chicken looked gross! We bought it to try it out and just wasted it and threw it away. Definitely wouldn't try it again

Submitted an order. Got the auto notice from my credit card it has been charged. Tried to go back into the website to confirm the delivery date and it didn't recognize my info. Money gone, no food delivered. Now two emails later no one has contacted me to resolve or issue a refund. I do my best to buy local...very disappointing

Crazy delivery time. First time using Foodsmith. Heard something on my front porch at 1 am and it turned out to be our delivery. Living in the SC Mountains you pay attention to things like this. My wife and I ordered 3 meals to give it a try. We were not disapointed. Adventorous food and quite tasty. We just ordered another 3 meal dinner package. Love it

While the food was pretty good, we were very disappointed in the customer service. After initially determining they could deliver to our location and making one delivery, they decided they could not deliver to us. We were told that the roads in our zip code were too dangerous. Ridiculous. They are not a problem for us, our neighbors, UPS, Amazon, FedEx, or anyone else.

Food is okay. Super healthy and typically very edible. Hate the salads - often contain wilted, rotten lettuce, even on delivery day.Delivery drivers can’t follow instructions and ring the doorbell, so yet again my order was stolen minutes after delivery. Caught it all on the Ring doorbell cam.A few weeks back, there was no evidence of a delivery at all on my Ring doorbell, and the manager was super rude to me - treated me like I was lying instead of taking accountability for the fact that they delivered to the wrong place.I am again without food and having to shop/meal prep after already paying them. The manager told me last time, when they never delivered, that they “won’t refund for stolen food ever again”. I did ask that the manager’s email be forwarded to the owner, but nothing ever came of it.I should never have given them another chance to put me in this position. And today is thanksgiving… great day to be completely without food and having to find an open grocery store ? Plus I’m out the grocery money I paid for this order…

This company used to be much better when they started years ago, but as they have scaled, the food got more bland and the customer service got worse and worse. They made good a few times in the few years I was with them when making mistakes and then making it right with free food or a credit on my account, but multiple times they made mistakes, and because of even more mistakes on their end with billing, (I was being under charged) they made zero effort to right multiple mistakes i pointed out. Add in their inability to either get competent delivery drivers who could find my unit, or to establish a system with photos or better notes describing where to drop off and deliver to, led to me ultimately canceling my service. They even went as far as to charge me extra for not having my bags out when they were out, and it was their driver/delivery persons fault, when the bags were out in the same place they had been for years. When being assertive and purposely not mean or rude, I was accused of "creating an unsafe communication space." Are you kidding me?! I could have yelled and used demeaning language based on the poor quality and consistency of the drivers and the leadership inability to train their drivers but I didn't, and their solution was to refuse to deliver to me anymore. Also, their "vegan" meals should be re-labled as "bean-gan" as they use more beans and legumes than actual vegetables it felt like to me. Ultimately, the failure falls on their management team who will not take ownership of their mistakes and will not attempt anything new to help their own staff. I vote with my dollar daily and will no longer support this once great company. Sad to see their decline after multiple years of supporting them.

By far the best ready meal provider in Salinas! Due to my heavy work schedule I don’t have time to shop or make my meals. These are the healthiest and best tasting meals I’ve found.
