NEVER GO HERE!!! THEY USE RAT MEAT!! Broooo I came here to get the beef vegetable soup AND GUESS WHAT! THEY SERVED ME RAT SOUP! So I know what beef looks like smells like and taste like. I eat beef regularly and cook it often. So when I got my soup I looked at the beef and there was a yellow fat looking thing attached to it an I thought.. beef fat is clear and a off white when it's boiled. So I searched up "how to tell rat meat" it described rat meat smelling like warm tortillas and IT LITERALLY SMELT LIKE WARM TORTILLAS!!! It also said you can't shake the smell of rat no matter what you do to it so as I smelt the meat the Asian lady walked up nervously and asked if everything was ok and threw the bill on the table and left before I could even say anything. Me and my spouse just walked out never going to see us again.

My husband and I have been coming here for about 30 years. The food is always good and fresh. Everything is cooked when ordered. The inside of the restaurant has much to be desired but it is very clean. The staff is so sweet and accommodating most of the time. This is old school Chinese food. Best Asparagus (when in season) and Beef can't be beat. May I suggest Chicken Almond Chow Mein Chinese Style or Ginger Beef with extra Ginger over rice. My son loves the pot roast.

The pork fried rice(5/5) from here is really good. The lemon chicken is also very good (5/5) BUT I am not a fan of the won ton soup though. The broth was good but the won tons themselves....mmm no thanks. (1/5).

My family has patronized this restaurant since before I was born...that's a long time. Lol. And if I had reviewed this place ten years ago it would've gotten at LEAST 4 stars for food and service. The service is still great but the food is now only ok and I'm not sure what changed. Yes, this place is kind of a dive from the outside and very old on the inside but it's clean and the food is still decent. I come here when I am craving a pork noodle soup, it's huge and enough for 2-3 meals. Other good items include their pork fried rice, which I still think is the best in Stockton, garlic fried chicken, Tomato Chow Yuke with Beef and the Mushroom Chicken with Oyster Sauce. And if you order chow mein, definitely get the pan fried noodles-yum! While I don't think the food is quite as good as it used to be, I still think it's worth a try.

I took advantage of being in Stockton to try some restaurants in the area and came across this one that was open. I hesitated because I found the location and exterior a bit offputting, but I'm glad I decided to give them a try because once inside I could see why the place was bustling with regulars taking a meal there, and lots of carryout business. The service was friendly and excellent, the portions huge, and the food had good flavour. It kind of makes me sad this isn't my neighborhood place, lucky are those for whom it is. My one complaint would be the cramp quarters in the ladies room, they made a stab at being handicapped accessible and I could manage, but for someone trying to maneuver in a wheelchair I don't think it would really work.

The flavor of the food is horrible. I don't know if it the oil or complete lack of any spice or seasoning. I ordered beef chow mein and first of all the beef was a grayish color instead of brown like beef. And secondly it was a pile of noodles with no veggies. And thirdly it left a disgusting after taste that I couldn't get rid of. I ate maybe a quarter of it and then fed it to my dogs. So if you like feeding you animal $8 Chow mein then by all means go there. But I will never step food in that place again. YUCK.

Star Cafe Resturant EST.since the 50's,I can remember having lunch here every day during school.All the Elementry School kids would have lunch here .Star Cafe would serve us Rice & Gravy and sides chowmein or chicken and extra here with under $1.00 Back in the days ! School lunch was 35 cent then but we would walk 3 blocks to Stra Cafe.I remember one of my brother's buddie's his Mom found out he was having lunch there and had his school lunch pass restrickted of leaving the school for lunch. No more Star Cafe lunch for him. When Im in my neighborhood I would order Pot Roast oh yes the same rich gravy to this day,Fresh Trout so delish, Tri tip roast so much flavor here. So many flash backs here growing up here with my school buddies .Mom never knew we were eating at Star Cafe that was our big secret after our neighbor got busted.

I'm probably going to give it another try, and hoping I ordered the wrong thing. The orange chicken was not up to par, but the ice tea was really good. Lol. Service was really friendly and made a recommendation for next time. Can't always pick a winner.

There food is just alright but I only ordered fried wontons and broccoli beef pan fried noodles no drink except ice water my total for those two items came out to 18 bucks close to 19 dollars!! All the other chow mein dishes are anywhere from 7-8 dollars! How did they come up with almost 18 dollars for the meal!! It's a rip off I think they charged me 10-11 dollars for my pan fried noodles!! If u don't want to get ripped off better go give your business to any other Chinese establishment instead of here! Unless you want to pay waaay more than what's stated on their price menu!!! The place looks like a dump hole in the wall to charge such outrageous prices!!!
