This was our go to breakfast place for decades. Over the years it has gone down the toast isnt as good as it was. It is still reasonably good but no longer my favorite place. They could work on cleaning up the place. Fresher cleaner look would be nice.

I've loved Joy of Eating for as long as I can remember....over 35 years....Moved out of state 7 years ago and on my last quick trip back to vallejo, our first stop as soon as we drove into town was Joy of Eating...Just as I remembered it! Food was delivered quick and was delicious...THE BREAD...I MISS IT SO MUCH....it is Soooo good! The server said the buildings on the whole block had recently been purchased.....I fear the new owners will be tearing it done....but I hope not.

I'm giving this review 5 stars because this is one of my favorite breakfast spots in Vallejo. I've been a loyal customer since the 1st owners were here. LOVE the food and service is great (hit or miss sometimes when a newbie is hired) However, lately I almost think twice about coming here in the morning. For a few months now, the space next to the restaurant is being rented by a excerise "zumba" type class. Their patrons take up most of the parking spots that belong to the restaurant (so, at times, parking is hard to find). Also, I notices that I no longer hear music in the restaurant because it is overtaken by the fast paced music from the class next door. I find it not as relaxing as it used to be. And it's a bummer that because of those things, I sometimes will decide to go elsewhere. All in all - I love this restaurant and will continue to come here as long as it's open. I just hope that the new owners will consider trying to make some changes.

The food and service is amazing and the toast is so well made. The ambiance is also really good to and is always a good time

My favorite place, service is remarkable and incredibly friendly. Food 10/10. I don't live in Vallejo anymore, but anytime I come home I make sure I come here

Overall a good experience. The food serving size was fairly large, the cost was lower than most places in the area, but they do need to work on seasoning their food as it was fairly bland. There was only one server for all the tables so you need to make sure you are getting their attention if you need anything. I would recommend trying it out to anyone in the area.

The food was ok, I really enjoyed the french toast and it was priced properly but the sausage was horrible and had a aftertaste but the egg was good so if you are looking for a place to go then go here

Nice, quiet ambiance. There was only one waitress on duty. She answered the phones, seated guests, took orders, served food, and helped a lost insta cart driver trying to pick up at the wrong restaurant. She did all this with a smile and great, friendly customer service. The joy omlet was very tasty with large portions. The homemade bread was served hot and fresh with a dollip of melting butter on top, delicious! The hot chocolate with whipped cream, sprinkles, and chocolate syrup was a special sweet treat. The potatoes had a nice flavor. The waitress recommended a special hot sauce for the potatoes which was really good. Everything was great. The bathroom was clean and in order. There is plenty of free parking in the side parking lot or on the street. Will be back. Highly recommend to anyone, especially breakfast lovers.

This diner has to be one of my favorite diners around the bay. It was tricky to find one, but the servers made it easy to come back here. Their chicken fried steak, accompanied by their delightful homemade bread, is an absolute favorite of mine. Despite occasionally perusing the menu to try something different, I invariably order the same meal. I sincerely hope this place remains unchanged and thrives for years to come!

A go-to in Vallejo for a great breakfast. Great, friendly service and consistently prepared food that's delicious. Of course, everyone knows about their special signature bread that accompanies their Mainline Breakfast combos. Chicken-fried Steak is a fave, but you won't be disappointed in any of their dishes. Diner environment, so casual atmosphere and small counter for dining, too. They close mid-afternoon, so be sure to check their open hours.

One of the best breakfasts in town. I like that they sprinkle green onion slices over the home fries. Not only is the service friendly and personable, but fast. Our food was ready and delivered 10 minutes or less. We drive from a neighboring town to eat here.Kid-friendliness: Kids at many tables with the adults.
