The ice cream flavors here are INSANE and I was obsessed with them. They describe them as artisan Thai gelato and there are flavors I'm sure you can't get anywhere else. Located at Smorgasburg LA and they are kind to give you samples (I really wanted to try them all). Black Sesame - perhaps the best black sesame ice cream I have ever tasted! Pesto alla Thailanese - strong notes of basil with a savory undertone from the olive oil, this was amazing and I would get a whole pint of it every week.

I stopped by their booth at the Thai Temple on a Saturday. A sweet little boy in front of us was with his mom, waiting as they made his Special - a waffle bowl with sticky rice, topped with 1 or 2 scoops of ice cream, and then sprinkled with toasted coconut & coconut sugar. His mama said he loves it so much they try to get it as often as they can. When it was my turn, I sampled the Matcha & it was LEGIT like you'd get in Japan. Their matcha is grown in Uji - where the best matcha in the world comes from. It was mildly sweet (ie - perfect) and there was enough matcha for it to be slightly bitter. THIS is how to do matcha gelato people!! It was a tough choice between the matcha & the black sesame, but ultimately I went with the latter. The black sesame was so nutty & rich! So good! The scooper girl that day was warm & patient. I watched her making the Special for the little boy, & she didn't rush through it. I loved her calm & happy gelato energy! Next time I come to the Thai Temple, I'll be sure to plan ahead & leave more tummy space for the Special.

The first time I went to Smorgasburg, nothing caught my eye except the funky, creative flavors of Moom Maam's gelato. They had unique, savory flavors like cacio e pepe and pesto genovese with Thai basil (both surprisingly good!), but I ended up opting for something a little more orthodox from their menu of Thai-inspired flavors (they have mano sorbet, black sesame, uji matcha, coconut milk, and Thai tea, among others). I ordered a special with mango sorbet that was served with coconut sticky rice with sesame and a fresh waffle cone. It was blazing hot that day and this was the perfect treat to cool down. As their banners advertise, this tastes just like the ice cream version of mango sticky rice. The mixture of different textures and temperatures, IMO, is such an awesome riff off of a classic. Be sure not to miss them at the Wat Thai temple and Smorgasburg!

Stopped by the Moom Maam tent at the Los Feliz Flea Market before heading out and I'm so glad I did. I'm a matcha fiend and so I'm always looking for the best matcha ice cream and I know this is a gelato, but I may have just found the best matcha ice cream in Los Angeles. Some of the best matcha flavoring - not overly sweet and the matcha was strong enough without being overpowering. Paired with the sticky rice topping was such a delight (and I'm not even usually a sticky rice fan). The woman there was extremely nice and was gonna give me a huuuuge portion but I would not be able to finish it, so I asked for less but truly appreciated it. Fantastic and they need a brick and mortar (multiple locations please!!!) STAT! Will be looking for them at the next flea market.

I did NOT authorize a tip, and I'm disappointed they would change my payment without telling me. They take your card, but you do not have the option to see the payment on the screen. If they would've asked or showed the option on the screen then this wouldn't be an issue, rather the person behind the counter decided to be disingenuous

I've had the pleasure of trying Moom Maam at Smorgasburg LA during Ice Cream Alley, and I'm so happy they were offered a permanent spot amongst the vendors there (I was rooting for them the whole time). Moom Maam brings something new and exciting to the ice cream scene with their special, innovating on the tradition ice cream cone by making their gluten free coconut-based crispy waffle their base. They shape it by hand and create the waves themselves. The bowl then gets a dollop of coconut sticky rice, and topped with gelato and crispy coconut pieces. It's heavenly. The rice gets a new creamy texture as it's cooled by the gelato, and the waffle provides the perfect crunchy texture to balance it out. You just have to make sure to eat quickly! All of their gelatos are creamy, rich, and decadent without being too heavy. They are consistently raising the bar, inventing new flavors and collaborations--keeping even longtime consumers intrigued. My favorite flavors are black sesame: perfectly toasty and nutty, it's hard to believe it's in a gelato form, and the Thai tea: if you've ever had a good Thai iced tea, their flavor is spot on. It blows my mind how accurate it is. Other flavors that get an honorable mention are matcha: it is a good, STRONG matcha and they are not messing around! Riceberry Horchata: one of my boyfriend's favorites, it is a creamy and well seasoned horchata flavor, and mango: tart and creamy. If you don't feel like having a special, their single and double scoops also come with a waffle chip on top and are just as satisfying. My boyfriend and I make the drive into LA on the weekends to go to Smorgasburg, but we spend a lot of the drive talking about Moom Maam in specific. I am so happy to see this business getting the attention it deserves. It has been hectic the last few weeks at their stand, my mom went later in the day and didn't get rice because they had run out, but I'm hoping they know how popular they are and can prep accordingly. I'm very excited to see them this Sunday again.

Thai Gelato! Yes, please. Stopped here during Smorgasborgs Ice Cream Alley and had to order the "Special." It consists of a coconut waffle bowl, sticky rice, your choice of gelato, toasted coconut and waffle shards on top. For the gelato, I chose the Pesto alla Thailandese (Thai Basil, cashew, olive oil) and the Blue Corn with Goat's Milk Caramel (Atole de Maiz Azul con Cajeta). It was delicious! The coconut waffle had a great crunch and flavor, and the sticky rice provided that nice chewy texture that I love. Both gelato flavors were so creamy and yummy. The Pesto alla Thailandese was a unique, herbal, nutty flavor that was rich and refreshing at the same time. The Blue Corn with Goat's Milk Caramel had a lovely sweet corn flavor, and the rich caramel complemented it so well. Service was great and it was fun to watch them prepping the dessert!

Moom Maam is a very special family-run small business and a must try. The gelato flavors are so creative and clearly made with the highest quality ingredients. Authentically Thai as can be. I loved the Riceberry Horchata!! Plsss open a brick and mortar in LA sometime!

I was at the Monrovia night market and bought their thai tea, I paid 8 dollars for a small drink that didn't taste anything like thai tea and had an artificial looking orange color to it as well. I went to the stall next to them got a large thai tea for 5 bucks and it actually tasted like Thai tea.

Everything I tried was delicious! Even made me a believer in black sesame gelato, which I didn't even know was a thing

This gelato is so delicious. It's creamy and sweet and they have so many flavor options! I ordered the waffle cone with rice berry horchata and thai tea. It came with coconut flakes so it added a nice crunch to it, with sticky rice at the bottom. The workers were really nice as well. I highly recommend this place.

THAI ARTISAN GELATO!!! I tried this spot yesterday at the Venice Winterfest street fair and OMG!! First they lured me in with a sample of the gf coconut cone and it was so crunchy and just the right amount of sweetness (not too much) then I had a sample of the Riceberry Horchata Gelato cause what even is that, but whoa my taste buds were all about it! I also got a sample of the Fior di coco (I think I butchered that name) because initially that was the flavor I thought I wanted but that Riceberry got me! It also had sweet coconut rice at the bottom of the cone but was so good and such a delightful surprise!! I wish this truck was parked closer to me because I'd be at it ALL THE TIME!! Also, eating ice cream can sometimes be a bad idea for me (tummy issues/never stops me from trying tho) but this one just kept me in smiles!! So yummy!!

Yummy gelato with premium ethnic flavors. I have tried fior di cocco and uji matcha. Really good quality. They can be found at Wat Thai Temple every weekends and they now have a truck that goes around LA. Check them out!
