What a great spot for ramen in New Haven! We’ve always heard great things about Menya-Gumi and weren’t disappointed. You can tell everything is made fresh in-house, especially with the gyoza, because it was packed full of pork! We really enjoyed the shoyu chintan ramen, and I thought the egg sando was like a perfect combo between scrambled eggs and grilled cheese. The karaage don bowl was tasty too, and it was nice that they had boba tea and cocktails here too. Friendly staff and all of the food came out quickly, and the restaurant was very clean.

Seen this place one day and me and some friends went. We went for the dumplings but once we saw the menu we also ordered spear ribs.Let's start with the dumplings. The pork dumplings were pretty good, but the chicken soup dumplings were god awful but we ate em anyway. The dumpling sauce was also terrible. Then came out the spear ribs we ordered. They were literally 4 pieces of pure fat. Nothing but rubbery fat no meat at all, sauted in a some type of white sauce. They were inedible. I could tell immediately, a friend at the table attempted to eat one and spit in out in a napkin. When we told the waiter about this he said he appreciated my honesty but was nothing he could do, so they charged me anyway.I would highly recommend skipping this place as this is one of the only times I've had a bad meal in New Haven. Save your time and money and go next door to Tacos Los Gordos or if your craving a noodle bar head to mecha. I was not only still hungry when leaving this place but midly upset at how I was treated when I didn't like a dish that we were served.

I'll probably get so much hate for posting this! The food is just average for me. I tried a few dimsum dishes and the Shoyu Chintan ramen, but I wasn't impressed by any of the dishes i ordered. Will I go back? Probably not.

This meal might be the worst I’ve ever had in New Haven. My trip to Menya Gumi was a total letdown. The place was a ghost town, and the service was so painfully slow. Forty minutes later, my katsu sandwich made an appearance, looking like it had been in a wrestling match with a blowtorch. The chicken in the katsu don bowl was fatty and low quality meat. This restaurant has some serious kitchen issues to sort out. To top it all off, nobody bothered to offer taking the charred relic they called a sandwich off my bill. Save your time, and go to Mecha Noodle Bar!

I love Ramen and I always say that you can tell if the ramen is going to be great based on the marinated egg. If the egg looks like it has just been hard-boiled, then it's a pretty safe bet that the ramen will be sub-par. Menya-Gumi, however, doesn't disappoint, the marinated egg is cooked to perfection and, as such, the rest of the food is high quality. Truly the best; I highly recommend this place if you are in the area!

Food was on point and the atmosphere/service was really good. This spot is a nice hole in the wall and offers more options than the typical ramen spot like Mecha Noodle. Don’t sleep on this restaurant!

Their Chicken fried rice is actually different from any other place and is ridiculously good. The place has a lot of spirit. Feels more like you are visiting good friends, that happen to be phenomenal cooks ?Give this place a go if you like Asian cuisine. If you don't, go anyway.

The gyoza and ramen are decent. While the egg in the ramen is well cooked and seasoned, the broth is pretty underwhelming; i was hoping for it to be more flavourful.Despite the place being packed with people, the waitress was still really attentive and friendly which is a plusOverall, i would recommend you to try this place if you are really craving for ramen but do not expect too much in regards to the taste of the food. It is not the best but it should fix your ramen craving

Perfection. Fast and friendly service and DELICIOUS food. Run don't walk to dine here. The pork gyoza were the best I have had- well stuffed with pork lots of meat and beautifully crispy on the outside. The yuzu ramen was on special when we went and I found the flavor so unique and delectable. Added bonus clean bathrooms. Also I always love an open kitchen when dining. Makes for great ambiance and the opportunity to sneak a peak at what's going on behind the scenes. Too bad I live in NYC or I would be back tomorrow.

Food in general is ok but way too pricey. The ramen broth is a little salty. The marinated egg on top is authentic, not fully cooked with the egg yolk still gluey. Also the topping shiitake is tasty!! The egg sandwich tastes great definitely better than I expected, but again a little too expensive.
