I would give the overall area a beautiful rating but as for the food here I wouldn’t come back! $80 later and only one person ate out of 5 that should tell you something alone! They have fallen off and I’ve been coming here for years with my wife and her family.

Clam strips = grease soaked rubber bands Lobster roll - you've driven this far ... keep going until you get to Fords. This place is not worth the stop.

Stopped for clam chowder and fritters. 30 minutes later I went back to the window for status. Was told system did not place the order. Finally food was ready. Fritters were overdone and chowder was gritty. Was really excited to try Fred’s. Disappointed.

If I could give less than one star, I would. I Ordered fries, burger, and calzone. First off I tried the fries, awful first impression, they were soggy, cold and tasted like fish, so I’m assuming the fries and fish share the same oil fryer, so gross. The calzone had a puddle of oil sitting on top, with almost nonexistent outer crust, and overfilled with with ricotta with having almost none of the toppings I paid 5 extra dollars for. Finally the burger, the lettuce was brown, old and nasty and barely had a patty on it, I would have gotten a heartier burger from McDonald. Paid almost $30 for a meal that was barely edible. Luckily the dog loved it so it didn’t go to total waste.

The dining room reeked of dirty cleaning solution. The food tasted good, freshly cooked to order. My friend didn't like the jerk chicken sandwich made with thigh meat. I liked the clam linguini pasta but the garlic was undercooked. My problem with the clam pasta was that the pasta and garlic wine sauce were $17, and the addition of 8 small clams was an extra $18! Wayyyy to much for 8 small clams. Plus, the proper way to make clam pasta is add clams to the sauce, then garnish with clams in the shell. This was just 8 clams in the shell, none in the sauce. Unfortunate, this could have been a great place without the dirty chemical smell and overpriced clams.

Cute little Shanty by the Sound. I really liked the ice cream. They have a soft serve machine that makes 24 ice cream flavors and you can add candy or mixtures in it like a Blizzard. The restaurant was a cute like shanty with outdoor sitting under a canopy. We ordered rhe lobster roll. The lobster roll meat wasn't the best but it's been a long time since my husband had the roll anywhere. It seemed a little chewy but it was my first time having a roll or possibly lobster. Cole slaw was decent. The bread was good. Fries were thinner than string fries but had a crispy taste.Cost wise the ice cream was a superb deal. Great price and a lot of ice cream and candy filling. Can't go wrong here for ice cream.Didn't know how expensive lobster was until this sandwich. The sandwich is priced by market for lobster .

Great location after a day of fishing on the Klondike IX. It's your burger and fries, a Coney Island-style eatery. We were a party of three and had an assortment of food items. The overall consensus was, for the money and location it was a 5*. The guy waiting on us and the food coming out promptly was great. You could face the water from the tables and get great views and there is a public restroom nearby to freshen up. I will repeat when I'm in the neighborhood, aka, Klondike IX which will be soon.Parking: You might get lucky as we did and get a spot in front of the tables or building. Plenty of street parking nearby. Busy street.

While visiting New London we decided to stop at Fred's Shanty for a quick lunch! We are so glad we did because we had the best fried clam strip plate . We were so glad we shared it because it was plenty of food for two ! The staff was so friendly and even though it was outside dining the tables were clean .

Stopped by looking for fried clams. Prices were a touch high but was really good. Fried clams were decent and the clam chowder was really good and the service was great, the cashier was super friendly. Had a milkshake too which was pretty good, cool that you can mix flavors.

Good food reasonably priced. They have picnic tables set up outside in case you want to dine there, which I strongly recommend, you can't beat the view!
