This is absolutely one of my favourite restaurants in DC and probably the best German restaurant I've ever been to! There are very few German restaurants in the DC/DMV area but I'm glad Café Mozart exists. I've been to this place for years and they never disappoint. It's near McPherson metro station, so it's very convenient for me to just hop on the metro and just come drop by. I typically go for dinner and get one of their bratwurst dishes, but their other meat dishes are delicious as well. The meats are flavoured splendidly as well as their sauerkraut and potato sides in my opinion. The veggies they serve the dishes with are usually just there. Meat is vital in these dishes, so don't come here if you're vegetarian. I always enjoy ending a meal with a slice of a torte, which they seem to just cut from a torte in the deli but it's still moist and tasty, being not too sweet and rich at the same time. Honestly, I think prices for their food is extremely reasonable and not overpriced at all. Service is typically great and sometimes they're willing to chat with you, although the last time I went, the waitress seemed to have difficulties remembering what dish I told her I wanted. The atmosphere is very cozy and relaxed - I miss the days where they'd have a German person play traditional German music in the restaurant. There used to be this person with an accordion who was super friendly with me and my party. Or maybe they still do but I just miss it all the time? I also like the take out deli they have at the entrance - which confused me the first time I came here but it has some authentic European products and is very cute. Definitely come and support this business - food and ambience is great!

A true hidden gem. Great German food (even the lamest looking schnitzel sandwich is delicious), German beer, and good German desserts too. Locals who know the area come here. Buy some German candy or snacks on the way out. I come here every couple of weeks to have a Dinner Über Alles experience - highly recommend.

I just really like the vibe this place has.In a way it feels a little out of place for the area - blocks from the White House and around some high-profile restaurants, but very much the feel of a suburban neighborhood go-to tavern. With an hour or so to kill before heading to the airport to fly home I wanted something good but easy and not too fancy - and this was perfect. On the food alone I'd probably say 4/5 - good, with a little room for improvement. But the atmosphere with the deli in front and a "mom & pop" feel hearing someone pounding schnitzel in the kitchen in the back - it's just a good time.If this was a place in my neighborhood at home, I'd be here often.

As a fake German (PA Dutch) I declare this delicious. They’re so friendly and I love that it’s locally owned and that they’ve been open despite places still being closed for lunch due to Covid. They have a small number of German/Austrian snacks and groceries as well as beers and desserts. I haven’t purchased those yet, but have gotten lunch a handful of times since moving back to DC and it’s always fresh, delicious, and satisfies all my schnitzel/applesauce/potato cravings. Really recommend for lovers of German/Austrian food.

Went with family as a guest of my daughter. The food was great, reminiscent of my Aunt Berta's cooking.

Best German food in the city. Love that they have a market in the store. Weisswurst & German potato salad are to die for.

My husband loves German food and I was excited for the Jaeger Schnitzel. Everything was ok but not great with the exception of the Dunkel. That he loved. Unfortunately they were out of two other kinds of beer he had looked forward to trying. He said the sauerkraut was "odd". I hate writing negative reviews but when I'm researching restaurants I rely on reviews. The server was very nice and service was good. Lastly, the place says it's open until 10 but when only we were left (there were only two other parties there the whole time), we were rushed out early. Never make a man rush to finish his beer. Took an apple streusel to go but it was no streusel we've ever had. More like an apple pie with thin crust. I'm sorry but they need to up their game if they want to survive.

Wow!!! Is all I can say. I didn't know what to expect when I choose this place-I had never actually been to a real authentic German restaurant but it was plate licking good. Like I'm not even kidding. We ordered the Kasese Spaetzil for an appetizer-I didn't even know what it was but it really was delicious. Then I split the chicken Viennese Schnitzel with my mom and sadly it was so delicious that I didn't even get a picture. It came with 2 sides and we got 3: German potato salad, red cabbage and cucumber salad. I recommend all 3. Then for dessert we got the German chocolate cake, apple strudel and an iced coffee. Overall, a great experience and the restaurant was a homey feeling. It was located in the back of a market and felt very inviting as if you were at a family home. Hands down the best restaurant in downtown DC
