“I've been going to UpRoar for awhile! It's always a great vibe filled with a diverse crowd. When I talk to friends I call this place the "De Facto Bear Bar of DC". The staff is top tier and super friendly. The food is probably some of the best you'll get at any gay bar in the area. Their fries definitely have won my heart personally. If you're part of the Bear Community I highly suggest checking out Beer Bust as its such a lovely and great social event.“

“Trade is one of the only top three gay bars in my list that makes the cut for not only a gay bar but also an inclusive space for everyone. The rest of the gay bars unfortunately, do not make the list of three but if there is improvement, could potentially earn a spot.Every time I go it’s mostly a diverse crowd. Hopefully they’re able to expand next door! The only downside I would say is some Bartenders not just here but also in other bars as well, please smile more and be more engaging with customers if the venue is not busy. I’m not going to tip you for mediocre or even adequate service - just because you made a drink that took a minute but rather, will tip you if you demonstrate who you are as a Bartender (e.g. knowing my name if I’m a regular, asking how I’m doing, etc.).“

The Dirty Goose Gay Bar • $

“Great drinks, great vibes, and absolutely incredible customer service. As it sometimes happens, my friend had a few too many doubles, but the manager and security guard helped everyone return home safely. They helped me get my friend down two flights of stairs, advised me with timing the booking of the Uber, and even assisted us in finding the correct car on a crowded street. The folks here genuinely cared about my friend’s safety, health, and did everything to help the night go as smoothly as possible. Seriously such great people! I will be coming here again, but advising everyone to take it slower next time! ? The staff here made everyone feel extremely cared for, in addition to the excellent music and really lovely clientele. Definitely felt like a less judgmental and more positive atmosphere than some other gb locations in DC. Thanks to everyone who lended a hand tonight! Y’all are the backbone of society lol.Side note: because the manager asked for the link to the emesis bags I brought with me, here’s an essential for anyone who has the occasional messy night out, or any establishment that serves alcohol: https://a.co/d/em8bTmb“

The Fireplace Bar • $
2161 P St NW, Washington

“This is the last vestige of the original gay bars. It's tucked away in DuPont. Look for the warm and welcoming fireplace on the outside corner. This is everything you would ever want in a warm, welcoming gay dive bar. There's everything you need and plenty of kind patrons. The bar is a decent size and welcoming to groups of people as well as solo riders. The drinks are well worth it. You'll surely get plenty of bang for your buck here. Cash only, and they have a ticket dispensing key pad only ATM that not only works, it fascinates. Check it out!“

“This is the most incredible and welcoming spot in the Dupont neighborhood. I was greeted by Amy and Ali (the bartenders) immediately upon walking in. Then as I sat at the bar, I was welcomed by an amazing group of locals. The atmosphere is welcoming and kind, and the welcome is tangible. Every single person who came in said hello and as I was leaving, I was given tons of hugs. Larry's is the Best of the Best. It's unpretentious and you will feel Authenticity in every way. If you want to experience what DC has to offer, start at Larry's.“

Green Lantern Gay Bar • $
1335 Green Ct NW, Washington

“This was the first time my boyfriend and I went to a gay bay or even any bar in general. We were both very nervous not knowing what to expect. We came in around 7:45 which I guess was early but for us being new the slower scene was very nice at first. The bartenders were very kind especially the blonde boy calling us sweetheart. The drinks were very good and the pours were pretty even every time. The men's bathroom on the 2nd floor needs to have the floor fixed as there are holes showing the concrete underneath in the stalls. The bar stools were also a little wobbly. We will definitely be back for LOBO in February and in general.“
