“Dare I say it? Alright, here goes. The best BBQ in Highlands County! You might undergo a couple of challenges wrapping your taste buds around some great Q but fear not, Steven B. is here! Read on for the details and my Pro Tips.Arriving- They are on the northbound side of US Route 27 so if you are heading North, no problem. If you happen to be Southbound, you need to drive past them about 100 yards and hook a U turn on Orange Blvd. It's no big deal if you let your GPS do its thing. It's a mostly gravel parking lot with no spaces marked. As you'll see, everyone just does their own thing! Ambience- They are a food truck in this hopefully permanent location. They back it up to a small building for more space. So, Take-out only! The ambience is in two parts. First, there are the folks waiting for their order which will be ready quickly. They are smiling and drooling in anticipation! Second is the folks sitting at the available tables with umbrellas and munching away. They will be smiling and moaning as they have food orgasms! Pro Tip- FB is your friend! These folks have limited days and hours. They generally open at 11 am Wed-Sat and close when the food is gone, which can happen quickly! The general consensus is arrive early, ideally before 2 pm. Think of it as a lunch place and once again, check FB to verify the days open and for specials. Customer Service- Wonderful, awesome and a true pleasure! This is a father-daughter team effort. The daughter (Nikki) will be at the window to take your order and your name. The father will make up your order, open the food truck door and shout your name when it's ready and that will usually happen quickly! Both Nikki and her dad are personable and genuine. I enjoyed chatting with both of them!Curbside Pickup? - I'm temporarily handicapped, complete with HC placard. I have trouble standing and walking any distance. I mentioned this to Nikki, and she made sure her dad brought my food to my car. Nice!Food- Brisket, pork, ribs, chicken, an often-changing selection of sides and a special or two. Pro Tip- If okra is one of the sides, get it! I don't give a damn if you "think" you don't like okra, get it anyway. Trust me. Sadly, it wasn't available on this visit, and I shed a tear! I ordered the brisket platter, and my sides were Red Beans & Sausage, along with Southern Style Green Beans. All the sauces are homemade by Dad, and I choose Carolina style. The tab was about $19. Note- As is often the case, brisket is the most expense choice on the menu. Most everything else is considerably less expensive. Both of my sides were mind-blowing and nice portions. The beans & sausage could have used a little more sauce but that's just nit-picking. The brisket portion was very large, tender, flavorful, and the sauce was spot-on! I was stuffed.I've had the pleasure of eating BBQ in all 50 states. That's right, even AK and HI! I know my BBQ! This place is an easy 5-stars!“

“Food at Mama’s Kitchen is amazing! It is just what I was craving! We got the Carolina BBQ sandwich and it was the best BBQ we have had since moving down to FL. Tastes just like Carolina! Then there is the classic Chili and Grilled Cheese that is perfect for Fall! And my favorite of the three things we ordered - the Chicken Chaffle! I have never had anything like it before. The waffle part of the sandwich was made with egg and cheese, so no bread here! On the inside was homemade chicken salad with bacon jam. Perfect! When you see this food truck open near you, you HAVE to stop by and see what’s cookin!“
