I had hope in this place due to some other reviews. I'm from San Diego so I've always been surrounded with amazing Mexican food and that's all I really eat. I ordered a few quesabirria tacos with consomé. Way over priced for the size and quality. And the consomé was just oil and cilantro you so you can't really taste it, it's just wet. The birria itself was ok but that's about it. I'll give this place another shot in the future. But definitely not on my list of go to places.

Best street tacos in Venice! Excellent and fast service too! Highly recommend checking out this spot!

I’ve been craving a taco salad for a few days and I enjoyed one tonight. Taqueria el Chavo, the hole in the wall near Yummy’s donuts was a Mexican place I had not tried. The fried tortilla bowl was perfect. Ground beef, rice beans, lettuce, sour cream, pico, guacamole was fresh and properly portioned. It was attractive and delicious. I can’t wait to try some other selections. Highly recommend! It was also the best price. There is a picture of the LAST SUPPER on the wall too. I’m FULL.

Many times a restaurant that isn’t the prettiest on the outside turns out to have the most amazing and memorable food. It’s a typical hole-in-the-wall story, but Taqueria El Chavo did not suffice to this title. As fun as well-decorated businesses are, I don’t try to judge them based on that. If I did, this place would quickly have lost all interest. It was barren and pretty dirty, and the lighting was pretty dark.We sat down and it took quite awhile to be served. The waitress really acted like she didn’t want to be there nor serve us. All of it was honestly pretty painful.I ordered a special burrito, and I have to say it was actually really good! It was juicy and full of veggies, rice, and protein just the right amount. I must have chosen the perfect plate, because none of the rest of the 9-10 people in my group had a whole lot to say about their dishes. They said it was okay but not too great. So overall it’s definitely a middle of the road experience.

Went to this restaurant for the first time today and while the atmosphere may be a little lacking don't let the folding chairs fool you... this is truly authentic Mexican food with the best Burris tacos I've ever had on my life (and I'm old) We are looking forward to going back many many times.

As we are recent transplants from San Diego, we were needing our taco fix. Looked on Yelp and had a good feeling we'd get true, authentic Mexican food. This place did NOt disappoint. We both opted for street tacos..my husband ordered pastor and birria...I ordered carnitas and birria. Plus an order of guacamole (Amazing) . The tacos were so good, but the star of the show were the birria and most specifically the au just. SO authentic ..it brought us right back to San Diego. We will be frequent flyers here now. The owners...so friendly and great service.

We have ordered soft tacos from this place and they were okay, if working late and you don't want to cook, LoL. So, we thought we'd take a chance and order burritos. Bad move. Poorly wrapped, very little meat, no flavor, poor quality, and chunks of fat, just gross. They served it with more rice and beans, and the rice was pale, just did not look or taste like the Mexican rice I've had at other taquerias. Then we were charged $14.99 each!!' I don't care what the price is if the food is good but it's obvious that quality and flavor are not their priority. Last time we order from this place.

From the outside it doesn't draw your attention. It is located in a strip mall off the highway. The inside isn't the most appealing to eye and the food didn't have much taste either. The individuals working were very polite and accommodating to our party. I probably wouldn't return due to the lack of flavor in the food.

Not bad - not great - but pretty good camarones burrito with ok beans and blah rice . Liked the chips and homemade salsa and a cold couple cervesas to wash it all down . You might come here on a whim as I did and that's alright .

My wife and I stopped in on a slow Sunday afternoon. Taqueria El Chavo was running a special that included Taco Birria with a special sauce which we both ordered. Each of us received a cup of the sauce. I dipped my taco into the cup of sauce and to my surprise discovered what a truly delicious taco tastes like. It was absolutely fantastic! My wife agreed, that these were the most delicious tacos that we have ever eaten. We can't wait to go back!

Great food. But as a mother they need to fix their hours on the Internet it said they were open and I pulled up at 3 PM and they were closed. but on the big black chalkboard it said open at 4:30 PM. Just waste of time if they can just fixer hours or not lie
