By some fluke, I have never had Taco Stand, even though I live in Athens and grew up 30min south of it......I HAVE WASTED TOO MANY YEARS....Don't make my mistake, try Taco Stand now! So freaking good. My wife talked me into eating here, she's a huge fan! The Fiesta Sauce and Queso dips are incredible. I was too busy inhaling my food and forgot to get good pics!. I had a Beef and Bean Combo burrito. Top notch! If you read a review claiming the food isn't good, be careful. People that don't like Taco Stand steal candy from babies, take up 2 parking spaces, and steal more than one penny from free penny tray. Lol you've been warned. Great Burritos, Great Dips!

Hands down the best hard shell beef taco. I have been craving a beef taco since last week but the places I've been haven't been giving me that taste I have been craving. This place hit the spot!!!!! Plus the music they were playing was perfect for the mood I was in.....definitely returning for more!

The food is really good. In my recent experience, some of the staff seem to have given up on making an effort to be friendly to customers. They seem to have "attitude," and since it's more than just one something must be going on with the culture there.

Of red reviews online as well as decided to visit this place about a year ago and they were still making people stand outside with no menu look through the window and order the food so they wouldn't get sick, there's also a post about one of the cooks urinating on himself in the back and kept touching his pants while making food. After I got my food it was overcooked steak dried out almost like beef jerky on the tacos had to throw it away couldn't eat even half of it.

What I love about The Taco Stand is how consistent it has remained over many, many years. I never miss a visit when I come through Athens, and am never disappointed! Food and prices are fantastic.

Customer service was horrible. The gentleman with the purple do rag on his head gave me a dirty look when I asked for Pork and cheese only soft taco. Young lady at register was not friendly or knowledgeable of what I was ordering. I received my soft taco with pork, cheese and green chilies!!! I want to taste pork NOT green chilies!!!

I've been eating at the Taco Stand on Barnett Shoals Rd. for 31 years and it is still the same delicious, friendly(!), inexpensive, hipster taco joint it was in 1992. I've read the terrible reviews and it appears that people just don't know what this place is all about. Sure, they sell tacos and burritos, but it's not reeeeally a Mexican restaurant...per se. Mexican themed, kind of, but more like in a chilled out American Mexican beatnik sort of way. This is not the place to go for a Cinco De Mayo celebration; but a place to go if you need a taco and burrito fix and fall somewhere in between wanting to spend a lot of money and time at one of the excellent real Mexican restaurants on the Eastside or wanting to spend less money on some bullshit at the nearby Taco Bell. Is it as good as La Fiesta or La Parrilla Taqueria? No way! Is it better that Taco Bell? God yes, no comparison! I suggest ordering a "deluxe" black bean and spinach burrito with all the toppings or a couple of beef tacos, a side of of the delicious cheese dip, and maybe get an extra serving of x-hot salsa on the side. If you're really hungry, just go for the Mega Nachos. (Note: Always get x-hot sauce, regardless of what you get.) Thats it. No chimichangas nor fajitas offered at this treasured local spot. I hope this review is a helpful deterrent for anyone who goes to the Taco Stand expecting to hear a mariachi band and maybe get blasted a pitcher of peach-mango margaritas.

I get that everyone has their own favorite Mexican restaurant and so do I, but Taco Stand is truly it's own thing. There's nothing exactly like it and maybe that's why it's been an Athens institution for over forty years. If you want a case study in how to run a restaurant, look at the east side Taco Stand. From my experience, the service is consistently friendly, the food is consistently tasty and the staff keeps it clean throughout the day. Nowhere is perfect, but you can tell when a restaurant is well run, because the staff members work really hard and genuinely seem to like each other. This is one of the best run Taco Stands I've seen during my decades as a customer and fanboy.
